VIDA SPA

NIRVANA IS ONE STEP CLOSER Written by Kyla I. Stelling Taking a holistic approach to spa treatment, Vida Spa offers both sensual and healing therapies that are designed to reinstate balance of the body, mind and spirit. The spa facilities, located in the gorgeous Westlake neighborhood of downtown Seattle, emit a vibe of East meets West. The interior is composed of modern design, yet is reminiscent of a garden within an ancient Buddhist temple. The décor is mainly composed of earth tones, which generate an organic feel and creates an environment that shelters you from the harsh and hectic city. The soft lighting, trickling of fountains and ornamentation of tropical plants produce a perfect sanctuary of bliss. Upon entering the spa, I was greeted immediately with a friendly smile. As well as health history, I was asked to provide additional information that would determine my Ayurvedic constitution. Vida borrows from Eastern Indian Ayurvedic practices, which have been used for 5,000 years to promote energy and well-being. The central concept of Ayurveda is the idea that one can achieve the greatest health when there is a balance between the three doshas of Vata, Pitta

and Kapha. The survey is designed to help discover your dominant dosha so that the treatment is personalized to your needs. The spacious changing area was equipped with an infra-red sauna, which I was encouraged to use both before and after my treatment. I was also invited to the cozy fireside lounge, where detoxifying tea and other refreshments were offered. I was then led to my treatment room where I experienced the Swedana Ayurvedic treatment. Using the oils that matched my prescribed dosha, I was given a 60-minute Ayurvedic massage. With this massage technique, oil is poured all over the body and extra attention is given to the head, neck and scalp. The next 10 minutes of treatment were spent in a detoxifying West Coast cedar steam cabinet. After the cleansing steam cabinet, my massage therapist exfoliated my skin by dry-flour brushing off my entire body. It was a perfect combination of treatments, designed to expel and prevent re-entry of bodily toxins. The experience left my skin feeling soft, my muscles renewed and my entire body purified.
