It’s going to be nice to have some new faces,” Webber said. Vendors will line the sidewalks selling a variety of antiques, crafts, artwork and other items. “We have invited a lot of artists and crafters, flea market sellers and antique dealers,” said

Webber. “There should be good mix this year.” A silent auction begins at 1 p.m., with the regular auction to follow at 3 p.m. featuring handcrafted Amish furniture and goods, crafts, baskets and more, all donated by local builders and artisans. As something new this year, merchants will hold a give-away of a Giant bicycle. On Sept. 14-15, customers will receive one entry ticket for each purchase and one additional ticket for every additional $10 spent. The drawing for the bicycle will be held after 4 p.m. Saturday during the Fall Gathering Auction. Participating stores are Miller Hardware, Ruby’s Country Store, D&J Fab-

rics, Country Acres Bicycle Shop and the Winesburg Dariette. The proceeds from the gathering are injected back into the community in multiple ways. “The business association comes up with projects to benefit the community and the auction helps people in the community who have medical issues or other issues that they could use a little extra money for,” said Webber. “The community, other organizations and people in need are all going to be beneficiaries of the fall gathering.” In the past, these community projects have gone toward community improvement in the historic village, such as the preser-

vation and restoration of historic buildings and the development of shade trees. Over the years, these restoration projects have contributed to Winesburg’s strong sense of nostalgia: Combining the old-fashioned feel of Whitmer’s General Store, Winesburg Antiques, Time & Treasure Trove shop, the Bicycle Museum and Grapevine House B&B with antiquated street lights, restored houses and a collection of antique tractors on display, the Winesburg Fall Gathering offers visitors the chance to experience simpler times.
