message from your lieutenant governor Hello, Blue Devils! Wow, can you believe it? We’ve already been to two major Key Club events: Regional Training Conference AND Fall Rally North. We have already done so much in these past months. We’ve already had 7 DCMs and DWS events together. togethe I can’t wait to see what you will all do! Remember that just because RTC and FRN is over, it doesn’t mean there isn’t anything else to look forward to! There are always things to be doing-- cleaning up nearby parks, volunteering at community or senior centers, volunteering at community events, and so much more! Remember the reason why we serve and to give back to the community. Don’t let the fall/winter months let you slack off. You all have already done a great job holding up during October so keep it up! I would love to see more new faces and consistent attendance from f clubs, as well as more service projects and fundraisers. Don’t forget to utilize the service project and fundraiser list that Service Coordinator Junna created, and to ask when you need help. There are many resources out there including myself! I hope to see you at the annual food drive with San Ramon Valley Kiwanis and our November DWS, and DCM! If you ever have any questions, feel free to contact me! :) Angel Lau Lieutenant Governor

The Return of San Ramon Valley By: Jacob Freiman

On October 10th, 2015, the recently revived San Ramon Valley High School Key Club sent two members to the Stanley Reach site in Livermore, Ca to assist Living Arroyos in their work to restore the tributary to its natural state. Living Arroyos is an organization founded in 2013 to preserve, protect, and renew urban stream habitats in the Tri-Valley area. This cleanup was the first cleanup done by Living Arroyos in their third year of operation, and one of the first volunteering opportunities for our Key Club this year. Our present members helped clear our invasive species labeled as stinkwort, seen in the attached picture. In combination with the work of the other volunteers there, our members cleared over 800ft of the channel, filling an entire dumpster with the stinkwort. As a result of this work, the channel is much less likely to flood. With so much unnecessary plant life present in the creek, if it there were to be a sudden increase in the amount of rain, the risk of a buildup of water due to plant life would be much lower. This helps prevent potential damage to both the environment and nearby property. The lives of local wildlife will also be improved as a result of this work. Without so much stinkwort in the area, native species of plants will be able to reclaim land and populations that they once had. The fauna will also be able to live in an environment that is more natural to them. The San Ramon Valley Key Club successfully established a connection with Living Arroyos, and will likely continue to work with them on similar projects in the future. Our contributing members found the work to be enjoyable and fulfilling.

RTC and Chill

By: Vivian Chu, Dublin My time at Region Training Conference was a huge Key Club moment to me. I went to the camp without my usual friends, so I was worried about being awkwardly alone the entire time. Fortunately, my experience there was quite the opposite. All the members were forced to be in different groups, which allowed me to meet many people. I made so many new friends and I learned a lot about Key Club. Although the drive to the camp was nauseating, it was well worth it. My entire time there was full of laughter, cheering, and introducing myself to new faces. My love for this club grew that weekend. I miss the friendly environment the most, oh and also the mashed potatoes. From getting scared on the hike to the campfire to cheering for my division on the last day, RTC was full of unforgettable memories and great food. :)
