The Editor Billy Huang Becoming familiar with the new school year becomes increasingly easier as high school progresses. Underclassmen generally experience greater difficulties, while upperclassmen (especially seniors) feel more at ease with their surroundings and community. I hope that all our Key Clubs have given all students the warm welcome and open arms we are known for. Having a community within a community, especially a great one like Key Club, can greatly enrich students’ high school experiences. Plus, the eager freshmen and sophomores may potentially become extremely involved and comprise the next generation of Key Clubbers! With that said, our club duties do not merely involve recruiting new members. We must work with the intention of creating an engaging, social, and rewarding experience for new and former members.

September 6th 2013 was California High Key Club's first meeting. We introduced all our officers and started off with the question "What is Key Club?" Many freshman and underclassmen and the remaining previous members came and gained more knowledge about Key Club. Upcoming events our club is participating in include RTC, FRN and a volunteer opportunity right here in our back yard—the Heart Walk, which will be held in Bishop Ranch 8 on September 22nd. Many new recruits are looking forward to FRN and volunteering.
Dougherty Valley Key Club has been working tirelessly to prepare for Dougherty Valley’s Club day. Club day is the day where people walk around and decide which clubs they want to join. It is one of Key Club’s most important times. Our officers have been spreading the word of Key Club International and we have a thought out plan to attract members. A stereo will be created to play music to get members, and we will be passing candy to anybody that signs up. Besides Club day, Dougherty Valley officers have also prepared for the upcoming school year. We’ve already had our first informational meeting, and we’ve given out papers to buy t-shirts and to prepare for FRN. It seems everything is running smoothly for us!

INTERNATIONAL NEWS Congratulations Key Clubbers around the world! With everyone’s efforts, Key Club International has raised nearly $1.5 million for the Eliminate Project! That is an amazing achievement for Key Club and a miracle to those affected by MNT (maternal & neonatal tetanus). Because this deadly disease causes excruciatingly painful symptoms (bodily convulsions, extreme sensitivity to light/touch, etc) MNT has become one of the primary focuses of Key Club. That being said, one of the district goals is for *every member to save three lives from MNT* If our division reaches its goal of 375 members, then that’s 1125 lives saved! So make sure to recruit as many members as you can!
