During the month of November, our club volunteered at the Turkey Trot event. Some of us arrived there at 6:45am to help set up for the race while other members handed out water to the runners. The race was a huge success as there were 6,600runners and the fundraising money went toward local schools and the Food Bank. Not only did we help out Thanksgiving morning, but we also helped out our Kiwanis every Saturday. Some of our members passed out fliers at the Rheem Shopping Center because the Kiwanis were selling See’s Candies. With more volunteer service events coming up, our club has implemented the idea “Volunteer of the Month.” So the member who has the most volunteer hours by the end of each month will receive a Loard’s Ice Cream Certificate and hopefully this will be an incentive for members to do more service events. The Volunteer of the Month for November was Avan Chu and Loard’s Ice Cream will continue to fundraise for us!
Monte Vista On the first day of Thanksgiving break, Monte Vista Key Clubbers volunteered at the Kiwanis Thanksgiving Food Drive at our local Safeway. We stood at the entrances asking shoppers to consider donating a bad of food to benefit those in need, and we were surprised how willing some people were to help those less fortunate than them. It was a very rewarding experience being able to work with our Kiwanians, and knowing that the time we spent on a precious Saturday would help feed hungry families was an inspirational reminder of why we serve.
