Tropical Murphy’s Pool League

Tam’s beat Lord’s, emerge league champs By PATRICK ROXAS IN a rare final week match of the season so crucial that a number of results could decide the 17th season champion, Tam’s bar played true to form, defeating Lord’s Bar, 4-2, in Choengmon to raise their total points to 42 which proved enough to top the Tropical Murphy’s -sponsored league here in Koh Samui. Bamboo Bar, which has mathematically the better chance of winning the championship needing only a draw in their game against home team Spicy Bar, appeared to have collapsed under pressure, yielding the match, 42, to bid goodbye to their hopes of retaining the league trophy for the fourth straight time. e Soi Reggae-based Spicy Bar team are also aiming for the championship in case of a Tam’s – Lord’s draw result or Lord’s winning and them beating Bamboo as they did and then defeat On’s Livewire in their postponed match to be played on the 30th of January but Tam’s victory doused cold water on their important and morale-booosting victory against George’s boys.

With the league trophy won, Albin and his boys, Timmy, Mark, Paul, Tony and Stell go for a double when they meet Aussieland in the second leg of the Knockout Cup on Jan. 30.. Having won the first leg, 114, away, Tam’s enjoy the advantage of a 7 point lead in the first to 22, two-leg championship match plus the advantage of playing home. Division 2 was won by Barbs and will be promoted to Division 1 next season. In the race for the best individual performer, the league’s coordinator, Ian, has clarified the criteria for choosing the best player of the season is based on who has the most wins and not necessarily on who has lost the least. Spicy Bar’s Tanee is currently leading the top 20 players in the ranking with 9 games won and only one game lost but guys behind him have scored more wins. like Bamboo’s Yak who is running second to Tanee as of January 23 and has 13 wins and two losses while Tam’s Timmy has 13 wins and 3 losses.

BEST PLAYER CANDIDATE - Bamboo Bar’s reliable go to guy Yak, shows the form that made him the strongest candidate to win this season’s best player trophy in this recent game of his team against Spicy Bar.
