Welcome to P ike County, Pennsylvania Welcome to scenic and historic Pike County Pennsylvania…the northern gateway to the Pocono Mountains. From border to border, the County contains clean water, acres upon acres of verdant forests, four-season scenic beauty, and abundant wildlife that define its rural character. It offers a high quality of life among its small towns and remote communities through its vibrant arts and cultural heritage and premiere outdoor recreation opportunities. This Discover Pike PA Guide identifies the myriad of amenities that Pike County has to offer. Welcome to Pike County! On behalf of the good people of Pike County, I extend a warm welcome to you, your family & friends. Pike County is a cherished place to live with its peacefulness and tranquility. This far northeastern corner of Pennsylvania was once inhabited by the Leni Lenape Indians whose clan controlled the Delaware shoreline and all of its tributaries. Now Pike County can boast of its close proximity to New York City as well as Philadelphia and New Jersey, its historical regions and rural areas. Pike County has blossomed into a diverse county – peopled with locals whose roots go deep as well as those who have chosen to make it their home, raising their children or retiring here. I hope that during your stay you might experience the beauty and warmth of our area – and find a reason to return!

State Forest, Pennsylvania State Game Lands, and the National Park Service. The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area and Upper Delaware National Scenic and Recreational River feature some of the best swimming, fishing, canoeing and rafting in the country. Our County’s many fine resorts offer endless entertainment and a variety of year-round sports. Year-round visitor opportunities abound with tremendous fall foliage, winter activities and festivities, and breathtaking scenic views and abundant wildlife. Although much of our county feels like wilderness, we’re remarkably close to urban areas of New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. That convenient proximity, in fact, has drawn visitors to Pike County for more than a century. It’s not surprising that Pike County is the fastest-growing county in Pennsylvania, and has been for the past three decades. Once visitors see what this area has to offer, they often decide to stay. We are committed to balancing growth with the natural environment by providing facilities and programs that encourage participation in outdoor activities and foster personal action for

the conservation of natural resources. This guide is a prime example. We encourage you to experience and visit the www.DiscoverPikePA.com website for more information on these tremendous resources. We hope you will enjoy your visit, long or short. We believe you will find Pike County to be the premiere eco-tourism location that has drawn visitors like yourself for nearly a century. Sincerely,

Richard Caridi Harry Forbes Karl Wagner, Jr. Pike County Commissioners

Fun Facts: The Delaware River... The river flows a total of 375 miles from the Catskills to the sea. While the river drains only one percent of the land, it supplies water to seven percent of the population of the United States, approximately 20 million people, many of whom live outside the watershed. The river is shaped by its Pocono tributaries where streams flow to join the river through dark tunnels of trees, past moss covered rocks. These include cool, swift, rocky trout streams of renown. With names like Bushkill, Broadhead, and McMichaels, their native brook trout (now all but gone) were once fished by Theodore Roosevelt and Gifford Pinchot.
