under-
standing to us . . . because you have stood behind us in everything we do . . . because you have given us something to strive for — worthwhile aims and objectives . . . because your genuine sincerity has enabled every girl to feel a part of the Westbrook family . . . because your friendly and congenial manner
has enabled us to enjoy and
always
remember our two years at Westbrook Junior College as part of "the best years of our lives" . . . we inscribe with your name and proudly dedicate this 1960 issue of The Tower to you, Miss Margaret

IN MEMORIAM Linda Lee Mazzoli
Courage, individuality, sincerity, the willingness to help, a friendly hello and a smile for all were but a few of the attributes they shared.
In each, strong character was para-
mount, and to Westbrook Junior College they contributed much.
Our grief is tempered by
the joy we found in knowing them.

INITIATION
"Lights out!" This phrase keynoted two weeks of freshman initiation. All freshmen joined with full spirits and laughingly put up with having to wear their beanies and bibs, singing the school song and doing stunts upon request. Initiation ceremonies also included slave day, when the "big sisters" commanded certain tasks of their "little sisters," and Court Night, at which time the disobedient freshmen had to face the jury of fourteen grave Junior Dean judges and pay the penalties for their misdemeanors. The ceremonies ended with an all-school party; and the final reward was the freshmen's lighting candles from those of the Junior Deans, thereby officially becoming members of the Westbrook family.

This is the Westbrook Way . . . .
Its buildings tall, its chapeVs grace Its campus green in Spring — The friendly smile on every face (all these things) Inspire us to sing — About the fun we've had And the things we've done, About the people we've met And the prizes we've won; The hours in the classroom, The teachers' helping hand Will guide us in the future As the leaders of the land; With pride in our colors, The maroon and gray — We're part of the Westbrook Way!

Now I am standing
here
on the same spot of the day Watching
before,
the curtains rise slowly
upon the
stage.
Here the stage lights with a thousand
glow revelations.
I wonder if life itself is but an idea . .
