Change is the hallmark of life. It is continuous and constant. Change from previous endeavors brought us together this year. There have been many changes in us and for us since our arrival last September. There will be many changes when we leave these halls in May. We have learned much from each other and we have changed each other. But let the spirit that prompts this volume never change. Let these pages remind us always that during this year on this campus we cared for each other very much. J.F.D.

but the heart is a nomad . . . he came of stock that settled in a place And made it to their liking, cleared the field of stones and pulled the stumps, put in apple trees and stayed at home, and home was cellared deep and there were rooms looking on the hills upstairs and downstairs doors that opened on the ground, a place to be born in and to grow older and warmer snow by snow. but the heart is a nomad asking to be free of what it loves, asking to grieve for leaving what it loves, thinking to find tomorrow in today, to have together then and now. the apples ripened when he left and fell and years like shingles slithered from the roof, the willow leaned into the river and the stones ending the breadth of fields, forgot his voice. it was the same but in another time and place when he came home, and he grieved to find a space of emptiness deep as a pit between him and the door, between him and the hills between today and yesterday, richard f. bond 19

mrs. brown retires few westbrook personalities have made as many enduring friendships at the college as ethel brown, who, after sixteen years of devoted service, retires in june, 1976. in appreciation, affection and admiration, her many westbrook friends wish her good health and happiness in her retirement years.
