Stereoscopy or 3-D imaging is any technique capable of recording three-dimensional visual information or creating the illusion of depth in an image. Stereoscopy is not a new invention of photography: stereographic pairs of images have been a tool for creating the 3D effect since the 19th century. In spite of all the history this kind of visual art has, only a small group of artists have been engaged to 3D imaging because it required advanced skills, a lot of practise or extensive technical background e.g. two of the cameras and lenses of the same kind. Until now! The growing number of 3D cinemas proved the demand for the technology, 3D televisions are getting affordable for everyone and last year Fuji introduced the first digital stereo compact camera for the world. Upon these events we decided to announce a 3D Imagery Contest open for all medium with the aim of raising attention to stereoscopy and bringing tallented artists together from all over the world. We accepted all kinds of media, there were some who drew, painted or sent us computer graphics artworks, but of course most sent photographs. We announced the best 3 artwork in 2 categories: Photography and (Computer) Graphics. Here are they and the runners-up of the contest, enjoy!
