amber, step away from the snapchat filters!

A strange t nge th thudding dding sound echoed across the new! office last week. No, it wasn’t our columnist Peter Andre banging on the door after forgetting his security pass yet again. It was the sound of our jaws dropping as we watched Amber Davies denying she took drugs at last week’s NTAs – while veiled in an array of comedy Snapchat filters. Don’t get us wrong, we applaud Amber for defending the selfie she uploaded – then swiftly deleted – in which she unknowingly posed next to a rolled-up bank note and what newspapers like to call “a mystery white substance”. As history can confirm, mystery white substances have a habit of entering the nostrils of the rich and famous, so who could blame Amber for taking a stand? But watching a celebrity deny dabbling in drugs while cartoon kitten ears bob above their head is akin to seeing Theresa May declare war while dressed as Bugs Bunny. It’s just… wrong. Amber then opted for a “teddy” filter,

complete with daft glasses and a bizarre helium voice effect. Telling the world you’re “heartbroken” and “devastated” while sounding like Pikachu isn’t ideal, we think you’ll agree. Most baffling of all was a third filter, where what looked like a surgeon’s mask emblazoned with love hearts kept covering her face. “Everyone who knows me knows that I don’t touch drugs,” pleaded Amber, looking very much like someone trapped in their own private hallucinogenic hell. Nuts as we find all this, Amber’s filter faux pas is, by a long shot, our celebrity moment of the year so far. Every cloud, eh Amber? n Turn to page 10 for more on Amber and the NTAs

Talking to us about the snaps – where Lozza’s legs and bum looked bandaged up, lumpy and swollen – Ali said the misshapen appearance of her legs is the result of recent procedures. “It’s possible she’s wearing some post-operative dressings or bandages. polyurethane foams applied after liposuction as part of a pressure garment to maintain a more even compression so the skin looks smoother as it shrinks.” But Ali had a word of warning for image-obsessed Lauren, who was pictured drinking a diet shake on the same day, and told us that if her weight continues to fluctuate, she’ll end up undoing all the work she’s had done. “It’s best to have these procedures done when the weight is stable, as rapid weight loss is not healthy for the body and can be associated with anaemia and low vitamin levels, which are not good for wound healing,” he told us. “In addition, putting on weight again might undo the effects of the liposuction and the butt lift.” Ali also warned that Lauren could find herself back under the knife if she doesn’t follow the strict lipo and bum lift aftercare advice. This involves wearing a specialist garment to maintain the body shape for six weeks after the surgery and sitting on a doughnut cushion for two weeks, then a soft cushion for a further four weeks. “Irregularities are more likely to develop if strict post-operative care is not taken. Sometimes fat can be lost, with the patient needing a top-up procedure. Long-term potential complications are the development of lumps or cysts in the fat, which can become hard,” he said. However, the busy star has had a full schedule, not only attending a make-up course, where our pics were taken, but also partying at the NTAs. She confessed afterwards that there had been “lots of jokes, banter and drinks”. Days before Lauren’s outing, the

exhibitionist showed off her extremely peachy bum in a video online. Standing with her back to a mirror dressed in just a thong and a crop top, she seductively swivelled her hips for the camera, telling her followers to “take a seat”. The former TOWIE star, 31, was called out by fans for not admitting she’s had fat injections in her bum. “Brazilian butt lift,” one online user said, while another fumed, “Cheats never prosper.” A third warned, “That ass is gonna backfire on you when you grow old!” Lauren recently admitted she’d had “lumps and bumps” removed, but hadn’t publicly addressed her bum lift. Ali told new! it’s the shape of her rear end that gives the game away. “Lauren’s bum has a dome-shaped appearance, which is a tell-tale sign of a Brazilian butt lift – or a buttock augmentation, as it’s officially known,” he said. Explaining how it works, he told us, “Fat is taken from a part of the body where there is excess, usually the abdomen and thighs. The fat is then processed and washed and injected back into the buttock area. The area from which the fat is taken becomes thinner and so the patient achieves the desired effect of liposuction – a thinner waist, flatter stomach and smaller thighs, for example.” Hours before she uploaded the footage, Lauren admitted she’d had a “kick start” but also said her body ached from the gym. “Love this feeling when you wake up soreeeee from training .. I’ve had a kick start and I’m loving my body,”* she tweeted. Let’s hope the feeling lasts and she stays away from surgery for a while! Karmel Doughty

Rochelle Humes and Stacey Solomon flew the flag for yummy mummies at this year’s bash. Rochelle wore a racy lilac one-shoulder dress, while Stace stunned in a blue Chi Chi London frock and a pair of white trainers. The mum of two later posted a video on Instagram with boyfriend Joe Swash, in which she revealed she was wearing a long flowing wig! New parents Cara De La Hoyde and Nathan Massey left baby Freddie-George at home to enjoy a night out on the tiles.

Megan had to skip the after-party

Megan’S h o S p i ta l da S h Eagle-eyed fans noticed that Megan McKenna looked battered and bruised on the red carpet when arriving at the NTAs, but thankfully the former TOWIE star hadn’t been in a scrap! It turns out she’d been rushed to hospital just days before the bash and was diagnosed with infectious colitis, which is inflammation of the colon. “Megan was rushed to hospital by ambulance with a temperature of 40 degrees Celsius – and no one knew what was wrong with her,” an insider revealed. “She felt so sick, she didn’t even have the energy to pick up her phone. She spent her time in hospital hooked up to a drip – that’s why her arms are bruised – and was later diagnosed with infectious colitis.” Poor Meg ended up skipping the after-party, choosing to rest instead.

He said he “hated” Sarah Harding after living with her in the Celebrity Big Brother house last year, but it seems Jordan Davies has put his beef with Sarah Harding aside, as the pair were spotted flirting up a storm. “They came out to the smoking area with friends and Jordan asked Sarah if she wanted a cigarette,” an eyewitness revealed. “She said yes and then started draping herself all over him, while making some pretty outrageous comments.” According to the eyewitness, Sarah told Jordan, “I’d motorboat you a hundred times. Forget about the G-spot, have you heard of the P-spot? I’ve Googled it.” We Googled it too, and it seems saucy Sarah was referring to Jordan’s prostate. Blimey! But alas, it didn’t seem to be Sarah’s night, as cheeky Jordan was later spotted snogging Real Housewives Of Cheshire star Lauren Simon. Ouch!

They may have patched up their fractured relationship for the sake of their kids, but that didn’t stop Katie Price and ex-husband Peter Andre having an awkward run-in when they ended up in the same box at the NTAs. Pete was said to be walking out of the box as Katie walked in, causing the former couple to literally bump into each other!

“Everyone froze and thought it would be dead awkward,” an eyewitness explained. “They smiled, hugged one another, pecked on the cheek and went their separate ways.” Neither Pete’s wife Emily nor Katie’s hubby Kieran – who posted a snap of his wife in her dress before the bash with the caption, “Stunning!” – attended the NTAs.

‘Kim might feel detached from Chicago’ Kim left little to the imagination on the beach last Monday

Kim and Kanye’s parenting skills are attacked as they hit the town just days after the birth of their baby girl… ust a week after Kim Kardashian gushed that she felt an “instant connection” with her latest bundle of joy, the mum of three has come under fire from fans who are outraged at how little time she and hubby Kanye West are spending with their newborn. The couple were pictured last Saturday evening at a screening of a new film Kanye has produced called Honor Up, less than a week after welcoming daughter Chicago via a surrogate. And it has left many people questioning the pair’s parenting skills. One critic raged online, “You’d like to think they’d want to stay at home with their newborn and their other two children..... I guess being “papped” is far more important?”* A second fumed, “Unbelievable she’s got a newborn at home and she’s out on the town already, she’s clearly not bothered about bonding with her new baby.” Kim did little to silence the haters when she then tweeted about the most recent episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. She told fans she was “watching with you guys”, provoking yet more fury from those who thought she should be tending to her young family. However, celebrity psychologist Jo Hemmings has defended the reality star’s night out. She told new! that Kim might have a different type of bond with her youngest child – whose birth certificate was released last week – than she has with the children she gave birth to, North, four, and Saint, two. “I think there might be a certain detachment, which Kim may not even be

The snap drew more unimpressed responses online, with one critic blasting, “I take it her new baby is just another accessory, should she not be spending her time bonding and getting to know the baby, obviously posing half naked taking photos of yourself in the bathroom is way more important!” Kim released a statement just four days after Chicago’s birth detailing how their relationship is no different to the one she has with her other children. The 37 year old wrote, “Having a gestational carrier is definitely different, but anyone who says or thinks it’s the easy way out is completely wrong. People assume it’s better because you don’t have to deal with the physical changes, pain or complications with delivery, but for me it was so hard to not carry my own child, especially after I carried North and Saint.” Following the huge backlash over Kim and Kanye’s behaviour, Jo suggests the pair shouldn’t go overboard with their social life or business ventures because it might wind some fans up even further. “If they continue to be seen enjoying the same amount of public exposure that they did prior to this baby – and without their other children – then I think there will be a backlash against their privilege,” continued Jo. “I think it is just a case of misjudging the situation to feed their fans as well as an increasing detachment from the real world, where people, especially mums, are genuinely shocked by their behaviour.” Let’s hope Kim and Kanye have got a few quiet nights in planned!

dinner, Shane comes for dinner. We all go to watch Courtney’s show – we’ve never missed one. I’ve always been her number one fan. We’re always there in the audience. Viewers have commented on how patient and diplomatic he’s been in the house. Is that a family trait? I like to have a good argument but Shane’s always been that way. He’s got an even temper, which I like. So that is definitely where we differ. Has he ever lost his cool? I don’t ever remember him even being upset! He’s just always been so chilled. Kim says Shane and Andrew are just good mates

Ann and Shane share opposing views

because I feel like he thinks you can educate everybody in some way, shape or form. We have to talk about his relationship with Andrew. What do you make of it? He did pick the hottest boy in the house, didn’t he? [Laughs] I’m besotted with Andrew. He’s a little bit young for me, but I can see why Shane would befriend him and vice versa. He’s a real lad.

There’s been a massive hype around a potential romance. Do you think Shane likes him in that way? No, I’m completely convinced it’s a bromance. They’re just good boys who love hanging out and having a good laugh. I think the camaraderie he has with Andrew, he doesn’t really have with a lot of straight men and I’m loving that. They’re very much just going to be good mates. If you watch them you’d think they’re like a pair of girls. It makes me laugh and I really admire them. Andrew’s comfortable enough with his own sexuality to be that open and free, so no, I don’t think there’s anything going on. Would Andrew be welcome in the Jenek household for dinner? Oh yes. I put in my letter to

Shane, that he never received, to not forget to give Andrew my number [laughs]. Is Shane looking for a long-term relationship? That might be a question you’d have to ask Shane. I’m sure if the right person came along he would, but his lifestyle makes it very difficult for him to have one. But he has had relationships in the past, so who knows? Would he like to have a family? Again, that’s a question for Shane. What would it mean for Shane to win CBB? He definitely didn’t go on the show striving for fame. He did it for the experiences and the relationships he’s formed. I would love to see him win. It would be amazing just because he’s a unique character as far as what he does and what he represents in the LGBTQIA community. What’s next for Shane? He’s got tours booked in England and Australia and he’s very heavily involved in politics over in America. He’s passionate about his art and wherever that takes him next will be his journey. ‘I want to build a romance with Ashley’

W

Fresh from leaving CBB, Ginuwine tells us how he really feels about Ashley James – and says he thinks Andrew and Shane J are fake…

hile Andrew Brady and Shane J’s bromance has created most of the heat in the CBB house this series, the gently simmering relationship What would between US you say to rapper Ginuwine people who and former MIC think you He says he star Ashley James were having wouldn’t has also kept a showmance “disrespect” us gripped. with Ashley Ashley But the question on in the house? everyone’s lips is, when it We’re friends and comes to Ashley, is Ginuwine, hopefully once we get out we’ll erm, genuine? be able to build. I wouldn’t call When we catch up with him, it a showmance because when moments after his eviction last the cameras are around you week, we get straight to the tend to not do anything and heart of the matter and ask the everything you truly want to do cool, calm and funny 47 year because you’re very cautious. old – who has nine children by I’m attracted to her and she’s several mothers – how he feels cool and I really want to build about Ashley and what with her, first as a friend. he really thinks We saw you guys under the of Andrew and covers – did anything happen? Shane J… A lot of the time we were doing

Ginuwine admits he and Ashley were playing to the cameras

that for the camera and to tease everyone who was looking at us. No, nothing happened. I would never disrespect her and she would never disrespect herself. It was all in fun. A little peck here and a kiss there… Will she meet your kids? Er… Not yet, no. I think we have to build first. I’ll never introduce my kids to anyone unless it’s very serious because I believe that’s the perfect way to be. I don’t want to bring anyone into my kids’ lives who isn’t going to be there months or years from that point. Do you think anyone is playing up to the cameras? If I had to point my finger at someone it would be Andrew and Shane J.

Do you think they are being fake? Fake? I guess you could call it that, but I don’t know them like that. I met them two weeks ago, so I don’t judge them. It’s a competition and they were doing what they’re supposed to do in order to win. Who would you like to stay in touch with? Ashley, Malika, Shane L, Jonny, John, Maggie. I’d like to stay in touch with everyone, but they’re the mains. And Dapper. He’s funny as hell. Would you do a collab with Shane L? Yeah, we’ve already spoken about it. He’s coming over in April and I’m doing a duet with him and Boyzone. GEOrGIA TrEvITT

Former footballer John Barnes, 54, came under fire in the house for saying he believes some men “aren’t comfortable” with gay men. After leaving CBB, he tells us he was “misunderstood”… You said you felt Ashley might have been playing a game… To a certain extent, everyone

John says his comments were taken out of context

He came under fire after a chat with Shane

is playing a game because it’s a popularity contest. Anyone getting involved in a showmance really is playing a game. I’m not saying she doesn’t like Ginuwine but you know the way to stay popular is to do things the public wants to see. You’ve also said you think Andrew is playing a game. In what way? Just like a showmance is going to be popular, so will a bromance. And him saying he will wear drag if he makes the final, what that means is, “If you want to see me in drag you’ve got to keep me in.”

Do you regret anything you said to Shane J about gay people? What I said was misunderstood. I was not talking about me – I am in no way uncomfortable around homosexuals or transgender people. The point I was making was that we, as a society, are uncomfortable because of a misconception about gay people. So some men may be uncomfortable in a room with a gay man because they feel the gay man may come on to them. I’m talking about men in general, I’m not talking about me.

Rachel Johnson on leaving TV behind and why she’s not a hater…

he may have come across as sweet and patient in the house (bar that Parmesan drama), but CBB star Rachel Johnson, 52, doesn’t suffer fools – as we find out when we have the gall to question her about her brother Boris’ opinion on her doing the show. Needless to say, she isn’t impressed. However, she is happy to dissect her time in the house, including her fall-outs with Ann Widdecombe, clashing with Malika Haqq and why she won’t be putting herself through anything like it again…

S

prefers the company of men. She put up with me because I could talk to her about politics and history – but she doesn’t hide her preference for men. Malika branded you a “hater”. What are your thoughts on that? I really liked Malika. I can’t comment on her judgment but it surprised me. I think she may have been saying something in reaction to me saying Ginuwine had all these different children by different women and that Ashley should be careful. It must have been in reference to that. But it’s not true – I’m not a “hater”. Is it nice to be known as someone other than Boris’ sister? Listen, I’ve been in lockdown since 2017 and I have no idea what the public thinks of me. All

I care about is that I’ve managed to come out of the house with my dignity and reputation intact. I’m not thinking about him. I just hope he’s doing as well as ever and I love him dearly. Were you worried about his reaction to you going in? I haven’t given it a thought. Boris believes everyone should do what they think is right for them. He’d never tell me what to do. And I’d never listen if he did! Would he like a stint in the house at some point? [Exasperated] Come onnn ! It’s not about him! OK then… What did you learn about yourself? An awful lot. Being locked in with 15 strangers, who you get to know better than you imagine…

‘Ann is a misogynist!’ You came out too soon! Were you disappointed? Yes. I hoped people would vote for me and keep me in. But I had a great experience. I met some lovely people and I have no regrets. It was a great adventure. You didn’t get a lot of screen time. Do you think that’s why you weren’t saved? I didn’t realise that. That was out of my control. But I can assure you

You can’t escape yourself. If you can survive that, you can survive prison or a desert island! In a way, you realise your daily life is actually rather good. Has it made you think about what you want to do next? I definitely don’t want to do any more reality TV. I want to sit in a very quiet room in the middle of Exmoor and write a book. So we won’t be seeing you on Dancing On Ice this time next year, then? They actually asked me to do it a while ago. I went to Alexandra Palace, but I wasn’t good enough! I’ve been asked to do a lot of reality TV, but CBB is the only one I’ve done. I have a feeling it’s a once-in-a-lifetime decision. SARAH MORTON

You had a few spats with Ann. Do you think she wants to win? Having survived that first eviction Ann will be determined to win. Which will be so ironic in the year of the woman – an anti-feminist winning! Stranger things have happened, though. It could be another Trump or Brexit! If you could evict one housemate, who would it be? Ann, for the reason that I don’t think she really likes women. She makes no secret of the fact she

She’s back! Our outspoken columnist returns to talk wedding stress, sex shows and putting baby plans on hold…

Wedding workout The realisation that the wedding is this year has given me a kick up the bum to get in shape. Alex always tells me he feels so much better about himself when he goes to the gym, so we’ve stopped eating Domino’s pizza and we’re training together four to five times a week. I’m not looking at weight loss because I never weigh myself, but I’m starting to feel tighter, more toned and better about myself. I’ve actually added two inches of muscle to my bum, which is keeping me motivated! Alex and I thought about doing Dry January too, but we failed a few days in. January has not been dry at all, ha ha!

PHOTOS: Empics, Getty Images, iCelebtv.com

Beaches before babies!

Alex is broody and can’t wait to be a dad, but he’s agreed to travel and see the world before having children. He also hasn’t done any babysitting for Cara and Nathan’s little man Freddie yet, so he needs to practise dad duty first! Nathan has taken to parenthood like a duck to water. He’s so happy and loves being a dad. I’m so pleased he’s back with Cara and Freddie is the cutest baby – although he cries a lot! It’s such a change for Cara, but she’s coping really well.

Love Island loses out! I was feeling really tired before the NTAs because I’ve been so busy recently, but I got a second wind thanks to the help of a burger, potato wedges and a couple of glasses of Prosecco! I wore a wow-factor dress I spotted at London Fashion Week in September by designer Rocky Star. It had an embellished body and a long printed skirt with a high slit up the leg. I loved it – but could barely walk because it was so long and Alex kept treading on it, which was a bit of a nightmare, ha ha! Love Island didn’t win the award for Challenge Show, which I was sad about, but I think it will happen next year. It was also so fun to spend a night with Cara and Nathan, as it was their first night out since having baby Freddie.

Stag and hen stress!

It’s been reported that I’ve banned Alex from going to a sex show during his stag do in Amsterdam in May. I didn’t say that exactly, it’s just that my dad’s going too, which is a bit awkward! I feel they shouldn’t go with him there. Alex would agree I wear the trousers in our relationship, but I don’t have rules when it comes to him doing PAs because he’s respectful and we trust each other so much.

For my hen do I’ve booked a villa in Mykonos for 16 of my girlfriends – including my bridesmaids Cara De La Hoyde and Tina Stinnes. I was planning on going to Las Vegas, but I felt a bit anxious going so far away from home, so I’m going for a chilled break in Greece – and no strippers! I know traditionally bridesmaids organise the proceedings, but I’m so controlling I’ve planned it myself. Oops!

Vicky Pattison has cancelled her wedding this year, which is a w shame because Alex and I were hoping to go. But she’s a busy girl and she obviously looked at her year and realised she just hasn’t got time. I’m sending Save The Date cards soon and trying to finalise the guest list for my big day, but it’s impossible because there

Vicky’S time Out

are so many friends and family we want there. It’s stressing me out and is the worst part of wedding planning. In other news, we’ve been in our house in Essex for two months now, but we’ve still got the guest bedroom and lounge to do up and Alex is useless at DIY. If he hangs a picture, it will be wonky. I need to get the professionals in! new-magazine.co.uk

Amelia is like “an adult in a child’s body”

Pete took the whole family on a ski trip

poaching because she does a brilliant job – but it just doesn’t interest me to sit in a house. Maybe that could change in ten years, but I doubt it. I love the varied work I do, but my presenting is top. Your daughter Amelia turned four last month. Is she growing up too quickly? Yeah. All of a sudden the way she talks is just very adult-like. I’m like, “All right, love, you’ve only just turned four.” She’s like an adult in a child’s body – it’s crazy. I’ll say, “Love ya, Mills,” and she’ll go, “Oh Dad, I love all of my family.” Does she get your sense of humour? One hundred per cent. She’s one of the only ones who laughs. You recently went skiing with Emily, Amelia, Theo, Junior and Princess. Do you wish you had more opportunities to go away all together? We’re gonna keep doing it. I love my job. I went through a stage two years ago, when Emily was pregnant

with Theo, and I told my manager I wanted to have a little more downtime. But now I’m ready to go to the next level. I haven’t had my big moment yet. What will that be? I’m doing two things this year that I’ve always wanted to achieve. Filming the movie in America and performing in China. I want to be great at everything I do, but it’s about ticking those boxes. There are some great things in the pipeline this year. Junior turns 13 this year. Has he got a pre-teen attitude? I do notice it but I humour him with it. Like, the other day, I posted a video of me trying to ask him about his day in the car and he wasn’t responding. Afterwards he was like, “Can I see the video, Dad?” and I said, “You’re not interested.” He replied, “Oh, I am. I was just acting.” Are Junior and Princess growing apart as he heads into his teenage years? No. Actually, I think they’re getting closer. Think about it, of all the siblings, they see their other brother and sister half the time, whereas J and P see each other every single day. They’ve got a good bond. You once said you want Princess to be a nun when she’s older. But

what if she wanted to follow in her mum’s footsteps and be a glamour model? Well, basically, when the kids grow up, I’m going to let them decide what they want to do. There’s no pressure. What about Junior? Can you see him being a singer? I’d prefer that he gets into acting because I think he’s got it. How is Emily’s bond with her stepchildren? They love her so much, they really do. And do Emily’s family treat Junior and Princess the same as they do Amelia and Theo? Oh my God, yeah. Emily’s brothers are all into footie and Junior loves footie, so they watch it together, play it together, go to games together. How do you and Emily keep the spark alive? It’s hard but we try and find the time. Family is the number one priority. Everything else is second. When was your last date night? We’re due, thanks for that. I’ll put that in my diary. How are you feeling about turning 45 in a few weeks? I feel fantastic. The caption I’m going to use on the day is, “45, feeling alive.” That’s another thing I want to get into this year. I want to start helping people in my age group stay trim but not have to diet. Bollocks to counting calories! You could be the new, older version of Joe Wicks… Yeah – older, but not as good-looking [laughs]. It’s funny because Joe and I like quite a lot of each other’s stuff on Instagram. KarmEl DOuGhTY t

will.i.am: ‘I’ve learned to control my AdHd’

will has found a way to make his AdHd work for him

The 42 year old said, “I’ve suffered from ADhD for years. But I’ve learned how to control it. I can talk, look at that person, think about what I have to do now and what am I going to eat later. I don’t see it as a flaw.”

Before taking control of the disorder, will.i.am credited ADhD for helping his creative process. he said in 2013, “One thing I learned about ADhD is that it’s hard to keep your attention and you can’t sit still and you’re always moving and thinking about a whole bunch of things. But those traits work well for me in studios and in meetings about creative ideas.”

After scooping the Best TV Judge gong at last week’s National Television Awards, David Walliams’ bubble burst the next day when it was reported that guests at a men-only charity fundraiser he had hosted on January 18 had sexually exploited female staff. The Presidents Club event at London’s Dorchester hotel raised more than £2million for causes such as great Ormond Street Children’s hospital. But several staff claimed they were groped during the evening and one said a guest exposed himself to her. The club was later closed down for good amid a fierce backlash from politicians and senior female business leaders. After the allegations emerged, David, 46, tweeted that he “left immediately after I had finished my presenting on stage at 11.30pm”, adding, “I did not witness any of the kind of behaviour that allegedly occurred and am absolutely appalled by the reports.”

The 48-year-old director headed out for a winter walk in Utah with the model, who used to date actor Bradley Cooper, before they went for some food together. There’s been some long filming days, but it’s been good. Love is not easy to find. It’s always going to be a hard task. But I’ll give it a go. I’d say this has gone better than Love Island. ‘I don’t mInd a fat man!’

Former MIC fave Olli Ollie Locke, L k 30 30, talks lk about his personal preferences… Why did you want to do the show? Often I’m too busy to date, so working on a TV show that happens to involve dating is quite useful! I decided I didn’t just want to date posh guys or Chelsea guys – I wanted to date the whole spectrum of Britain. And f**k, I did it! Do you have a type? I just like very big men – anyone tall and very broad. They don’t need to be muscly. I don’t mind if they’re a bit fat. Normally you’re the one dishing out the dating advice. Does it feel weird for the shoe to be on the other foot? Well, yes. I’ve spent so long looking after other people’s relationships. Look at Binky and everything she’s been

through. I’ve always been there as the gay best friend to make sure everyone is OK. So when it came to looking after my own love Binky helps life, that was where the her pal with challenge came in. dating advice Did you consult any of your Chelsea mates about doing the show? I spoke to Toff, who did it before. But who’s to say the MIC characters aren’t making an appearance in this? Binky will be on it talking me through things, which is fun as she’s not been on camera for a while. How’s she doing? She’s this humble mother now, it’s very annoying. She’s very grown up. I said, “Darling, let’s get bollocked.” And she’s like, “I can’t! I can only have two glasses of wine!”

‘mIke’s a bIt of an IdIot!’ He loves Muggy Mike

MIC IC star t Sam S Th Thompson, 25, on bromance and romance…

‘I’m lookIng for a man… not a boy!’ B kl B Brooklyn Beckham’s kham’s ex ex, Tallia Storm, Storm 19, on moving on from her old love…

How’s the series been for you? I didn’t know what to expect. It’s been different to anything I’ve ever done, but it’s been the best show I’ve ever filmed. What were the mixers like? I was so nervous, but then the excitement kicks in. I walked in and someone came over and spoke to me and that never really happens. Then someone else came over and I was like, “This is great!” That’s when I got super excited, like, “I’m going to talk to everyone!” Did you compare the people you dated to your ex, Tiff Watson? I was worried that would happen, but it didn’t. I’m so bad with girls, I really am. To have people want to speak to me is so new to me. But yeah, Tiff is the past… we’re going into the future! How are you getting on with the other celebrities? I want to date Jade and I love Mike. He’s not malicious, he’s just a bit of an idiot. He’ll be great TV. Sam split from Tiff last year

What did you learn from your relationship with Brooklyn? That I’m definitely looking for a man now! I’ve always gone for boys before, but I want a tall, dark, handsome man, not a wee boy. What was Brooklyn like as a boyfriend? Did you hang out with Posh and Becks? They’re a lovely family. I hate commenting on it because I want to prove I’m so much more than Brooklyn Beckham’s ex – it gets so exhausting after a while. It was very much in the public eye and that was a lot for a young girl. We’d go to Covent Garden and we’d have a security guard with us. I didn’t realise at the time, but now I definitely don’t want that. I’d rather find someone who’s the complete opposite of that. Has it put you off dating someone in the public eye? I’m much more attracted to someone ambitious, who’s worked their way up and is self-made. Every single break I’ve ever v got, I feel like I’ve done it myself. There’s no such thing as luck – it’s when opportunity meets preparation!

This week, Pete parties at the NTAs, celebrates Theo’s first steps and talks butt lifts…

NTAwesome! I had a good night at the National Television Awards last week. There was a great atmosphere and I caught up with loads of familiar faces including Sarah Harding and Michelle Heaton. And it was really good to see Ant & Dec win three awards after such a tough year for Ant. I didn’t stay too late as I was flying solo due to Emily working late, but it was still great fun all the same.

Theo’s on the move

PHOTOS: Getty Images, Shutterstock

Ccarlalzuys It’s always madness in our house, which is why I had to share this video of Emily, the kids and our friends Daz and Kate from Somerset dancing around the kitchen while I was busy cooking. We had the music blasting out and when I looked up, everyone was going crazy!

Bista was holding Theo and dancing with Emily, while Mills was in the middle, jumping around. I don’t know where Junior was. He was probably being cool and playing on the PlayStation or something. And in case you were wondering, the bolognese I was making turned out great!

Hitting tHe road I’m doing lots of gigs this year in the UK and abroad, which will be revealed soon. One already announced is the Kubix Festival in Sunderland in August. I’m really looking forward to catching up with the 90s crew including Ronan Keating, B*Witched and the East 17 lads, who are also on the bill. I’m also headlining at an all-day concert at Hereford United FC’s Edgar Street ground in May. I’m looking forward to that, too. On another note, I’m doing a calendar and my new perfume signing next Saturday, February 3, at The Oracle in Reading from 1pm. Can’t wait to see you all!

There was a special moment in our house last week when Theo took his first steps unaided in the kitchen! There’s nothing like watching your child’s first steps and I was lucky enough to capture it on video. For those who haven’t seen the clip I posted on Instagram, Bista was coaxing him and he walked six steps towards her. It was so cute! Theo is obsessed with Bista and whenever he sees her he gets so excited. He’s walked around ten steps at most so far, but by the time you read this he’ll no doubt have done more. He’s also getting blonder by the day! At the moment, Junior’s the only one on Team Greek, ha ha.

Bum deal...

Brazilian butt lifts appear to be “a thing” right now. Each to their own, but I guess I just don’t get it. Apparently others, including David Beckham, have a My vie similar opinion. In a recent on w t interview he seemed baffled n e wh e s by the whole craze and admitted he’d never inject his butt. But hey, what do I know? I’m happy with mine so I’ll pass on the ass, thanks!

Princess Eugenie blasted for ‘upstaging’ Meghan! Fans of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry aren’t happy with his cousin for announcing she’s heading down the aisle, too…

The couple with the very proud mum of the bride new-magazine.co.uk

They have been accused of trying to “distract” attention from Meghan and Harry’s do Both couples will marry at St George’s

“Is this a deliberate attempt to distract people from Harry and Meghan wedding or even upstage their wedding?”* one disgruntled Harry and Meghan fan asked. “Surely he could have waited a few months until AFTER Harry and Megan’s wedding to propose after all what difference would it have made? Although I wish the very recently engaged couple well I think this was very orchestrated.” Another suggested Princess Eugenie of York and wine merchant Jack, 31, should postpone their nuptials at St George’s Chapel in Windsor until 2019. “Let me remind you, that MEGHAN’S wedding is the event of the year, maybe even the century,” they ranted. “I really think she should change her wedding to sometime next year and in a different venue. It’s the respectful thing to do.”

One of Sarah’s gushing posts on social media

Others even branded Eugenie’s big day a “side show” to that of Harry and Meghan’s. But one person who’s overjoyed by the engagement is mum-of-the-bride Sarah Ferguson. The Duchess of York posted a flurry of gushing tweets, saying in one, “We love Jack and I am so excited to have a son.” Another read, “They make the laughter and we feel the joy. Thank you for the magic. Jack and Eugenie. So proud of you.” Describing the Queen’s reaction to her news, Eugenie said, “Granny actually knew right at the beginning [of the engagement]. We left her this weekend and had a lovely time and she was very happy, as was my grandfather.” Eugenie, who has been dating Jack for seven years, hadn’t confirmed who her bridesmaids would be as new! went to press but her 29-year-old sister Beatrice, who split from her boyfriend of ten years Dave Clarke in 2016, is likely to be top of the list. And with such a wide circle of famous friends, including Ellie Goulding and Cara Delevingne, to potentially accompany her down the aisle, it could be up there with Hazza and Meg’s wedding in the star-spotting stakes!

oyal weddings are like buses – you wait seven years for one, then two come along at once. Nearly two months after the engagement of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle was announced, his cousin Princess Eugenie said yes when her long-term boyfriend Jack Brooksbank popped the question. Not only that but she’s planning on tying the knot in the same church where Harry and Meghan plan to say I do – just a few months later. And while 27-year-old Eugenie – the Queen’s granddaughter – has revealed she’s “over the moon”, one person who might not be is Meghan. The former Suits actress’ wedding plans have been front-page news ever since her and Hazza’s big announcement on November 27. However, Eugenie has been accused of trying to “upstage” Meghan, who’ll tie the knot on May 19, with many slamming the timing of her engagement.

hey’ve been parents for less than a year, but a source has told new! they think the cracks are starting to show in Cheryl Tweedy’s relationship with Liam Payne. But our mole has told us that rather than wanting out, Liam is keen to propose in the hope that marriage will make things better. “It sounds mad, but Liam thinks if he puts a ring on her finger it will smooth over any cracks and make Cheryl feel more secure,” our mole told us. “But pals have told him to hold fire and not rush into an engagement until things are better between them.” The couple spent much of the past year apart, with former One Direction star Liam, 24, focusing on his solo career while Cheryl, 34, prioritised looking after their ten-month-old son Bear. But according to new!’s wellplaced insider, Liam is feeling the strain of fatherhood and is worried he isn’t getting enough quality time with his family.

“Liam doesn’t seem happy,” our source revealed. “The age gap and responsibility look like they’re taking their toll on him. He feels guilty about spending so much time away from Bear, but it’s good for him to have some breathing space and act like a 24 year old instead of being this mature, middle-aged dad figure.” Cheryl’s mum Joan Callaghan, 58, is thought to be living with the pair in their Surrey mansion a lot of the time, which is also thought to have created problems between them. And while the couple don’t have blazing rows, it’s thought that Liam feels as if he’s walking on eggshells around Cheryl. Our insider said, “Joan is living with them a lot of the time now. Liam feels there’s not that much privacy for him and Cheryl as a couple. He’s grateful to Joan – she’s a brilliant hands-on granny and a great support to Cheryl. But he feels surplus to requirements where the baby is concerned.” Previously, Liam admitted that Chezza does the lion’s share

of the work when it comes to looking after their tot. “I thought I’d get the call saying, ‘We need a nanny for this,’ but no, she’s doing everything,” he said. “She’s really pushing herself with it, bless her.” He also revealed his girlfriend had insisted on doing all of Bear’s night feeds. “We did a rota over the night feeds and then she was like, ‘I want to do it,’ because she used to wake up anyway,” he explained. She is so pretty and looks better when she is size 8 no need to be a size 4 Cheryl!”* One even pointed out that the last time Cheryl was so slender was during the breakdown of her marriage to JeanBernard FernandezVersini in the summer of 2015. “She doesn’t look like herself… I hope she isn’t losing weight again,” the fan wrote. “She looked so ill before her ex got the heave-ho!” Make sure you take Her weight was also care of yourself, Chezza!

‘I really miss Stanley’

Georgia Toffolo tells us how life has been post-jungle…

W

e fell in love with sweet and kooky MIC star Georgia Toffolo when she entered last year’s I’m A Celebrity jungle, and left it as the winner. So when we bump into her at the National Television Awards, we’re delighted to discover she’s just as charming in real life. Fresh from bagging the NTA for Challenge Show along with her new pals Ant and Dec, the star is clearly over the moon with their win and can’t help but explode into giggles as we chat in the Winners’ Room. And although the Queen of the Jungle has more than earned her stripes in the industry, she tells us she’s still adjusting to her new-found fame – which has landed her a job presenting on This Morning – and finds herself feeling With pal Stanley nervous around her new colleagues Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield. But while the 23 year old – who later in the evening tripped over her dress while being filmed by a pal for her Instagram page – is happy to chat about her budding friendship with Boris Johnson’s dad, Stanley, she shows us her tough side by shutting down the interview when we dare ask about her love life! Don’t worry, Toff, we still love you!

PHOTOS: Backgrid, Shutterstock

Hi Toff! How has your life changed since winning I’m A Celebrity? Oh my god, it’s overwhelming. I mean, I can’t actually believe I’m walking down the NTAs’ red carpet. I’ve never even been invited to the NTAs before and now I’m doing a bit of presenting for it! It’s mad. Who are you still in touch with from I’m A Celeb? Obviously Stanley, most of all. He actually called me the other day, and was like, “Toff, I’m in the car wash, can you hear me?!” He’s so funny. I love him. I really miss our conversations in the jungle, but we talk pretty much every day anyway really.

Georgia says she’s “star-struck” by This Morning’s Phil and Holly

She tripped up leaving the do

Is it true that you and Stanley are getting your own show together? I think it’s a great idea but no one has asked me if I’d like to do anything like that. But it would be really fun. Who would you love to see in the jungle? Boris, obviously. He’d be amazing. I would want to go back in again though! I wasn’t ready to leave. I was so happy in there. Will you be returning to MIC? Yes. We’ve already started filming. It’s my home so of course I’m going back. Do you feel like they’re treating you a little bit differently now? No way! They told me I’ve got filming at 8.30am and I said “No” and they said “Yes” and I said “No”. So anyway I was there at 8.30am… How is your new presenting job at This Morning going? I feel very lucky that I’ve been welcomed into that family. I’m trying to brush up my skills as a presenter. It’s bizarre, when I come into the studio I still get really star-struck by Holly and Phil. It’s awful, I need to get over it, but it’s so weird that they even know my name. Would you ever like to be a Loose Woman? No, I think I’ll stick with This Morning. I’ve got the job for the next year so it’s very exciting. What’s your love life like now you’re more in the spotlight? I’m not talking about that [laughs]! See you later, bye darling! JeSSICA evANS

WilkinsOn sWOrD launch ParTy nOhO sTuDiOs, lOnDOn After his very public and very messy split with Lottie Moss last August, MIC star Alex Mytton has finally moved on. “I’m sort of seeing someone,” he told us at the showbiz bash. “It’s going well.” But while we were desperate to find out the identity of the lucky lady, he told us she won’t be appearing in the next series of MIC, which he’s currently filming. “I’m not trying to keep my love life personal, but whatever happens, happens.” Hmm, you can’t keep anything from us, Alex! Meanwhile, we were shocked to see a surprisingly fresh-faced Pete Wicks sipping on a cocktail after telling us he was “really drunk” at the NTAs only two nights before. Nothing like a hair of the dog, eh Pete?

We caught up with Irish model Vogue Williams and her pet pooch Winston at the hairbrushes for pets launch. Tucking into a mini beefburger – but steering clear of the Prosecco – Vogue said, “I’m supposed to be on a healthy eating plan because I’ve got a couple of shoots coming up. It’s not going so well, but I’ve been sticking to Dry January!” After we congratulated her on her willpower, it wasn’t long before talk turned to her other half, Spencer Matthews, who she has moved in with. “It’s going really well,” she said. “He’s nice and tidy, which was my main concern.

The only thing we’re working on is that he doesn’t lock the front door!” The star also admitted she’s already thinking about the next big step in their relationship – babies! “I’ve been broody for years and I love a unique baby name,” she said. “But I have a fur baby for now and Spencer wants another dog.” While she’s clearly smitten with the ex-MIC hunk, when we asked Vogue what their plans are for Valentine’s Day, she snapped, “I hate Valentine’s Day because it’s forced romance. Spencer does romantic things for me all the time.” That’s us told!

When we last saw lovebirds Courtney Green and Myles Barnett on TOWIE, their relationship was at crisis point, with him unsure about moving in with his girlfriend of nearly a year. So when we bumped into Courtney at the cosmetics launch party, we were delighted to hear that he’s finally taken the leap. “He’s living at mine now,” said an excited Courtney. “We can both go out at night and come back and be together. I love it!”

And having her boyfriend sharing a house with her wasn’t the only thing Courtney had to celebrate. She also told us how relieved she was to survive the recent TOWIE cull, which saw her mates Amber Dowding, Chris Clark and Mike Hassini get axed from the show. “I will miss them, but I’m excited to start filming again,” she said.

At 13, Millie knows just how to dress for her age. This Calvin Klein design has sparkle and sass but doesn’t feel too much for the petite star. We bet all her fellow celebs were wishing they could get away with trainers!

Reese, 41, loves to play it safe on the red carpet, and although this Zac Posen gown isn’t particularly striking, the colour, stripes and frilled off-the-shoulder neckline stop it from being boring.

Nicole, 50, goes for head-to-toe sequins and this Armani Privé gown flatters her figure. But we’re not loving the colour or the unnecessary shoulder detail. Somehow the overall effect is a little frumpy.

NICOLE KIDMAN

As a celeb, you don’t want to risk stepping out in the same outfit as another star. Thankfully for Kate, 38, nobody else turned up in this bonkers pink Valentino number. We’re not surprised!

Uh-oh. We’re having one of those “what were you thinking?!” moments with this Bora Aksu frocky horror. It’s like Kate, 30, has taken her nan’s nightie and sewn it together with her net curtains. Yuck!

The embellishment on this flapperstyle Ralph & Russo gown is stunning and the Girls star, 29, continues the 30s feel with her side-parted hair and bold lips. She also shows her support for the Time’s Up campaign with a logo on her handbag.

When we think of Lupita, 34, on the red carpet, we think of beautiful, bright colours and we’re just not loving her attempt at metallics. The feathers on the hem of this Ralph & Russo dress are scruffy and the bodice looks uncomfortably tight.

The Crown star Vanessa, 29, is queen of the red carpet in this floral Valentino floor-sweeper. We love the eye-catching embroidery and subtle sequins. Top marks.

It’s not often an actress chooses to bulk out her waist, but Margot, 27, does just that in this Miu Miu gown. Without the bizarre feathered middle this would actually be quite pretty. Remember, less is usually more, Margot!

The singer and actress, 46, tells her hangover cure and how putting on weight makes her look ten years older… HeigHt 5fT 8in WeigHt 10ST Dress size 10 How much alcohol do you tend to drink in a typical week? Not a lot really. I tend to limit it, because when you drink, calories don’t get counted and that’s when you fall off the wagon. I get worse headaches and hangovers now as well, so I’m a bit more disciplined. I had two glasses of prosecco two nights ago and that’s it for this week. What’s your ultimate hangover cure? Going to bed with the blanket over my head, or taking my baby Jaxon out for a walk. Which foods are guaranteed to make you feel good? I feel good when I’m eating healthily. I feel good when I’m eating naughtily too, but just not afterwards! I like nice, clean healthy food of an evening. I’ve just had half a chocolate crunch meal replacement bar, which was lovely with my cup of tea and that made me feel good. What’s your favourite meal of the day? My evening meal, I think. I’m not a big one for eating in the morning. My coffee and bowl of porridge is quite light. You’re in great shape at the moment. What’s your favourite part of your body? My hands. I’ve got nice long hands!

You’ve slimmed down with the help of the Slimfast plan. When you put on weight, where does it tend to go? It goes on my cheeks and I suddenly look ten years older! Then it goes on my belly. What are your top tips for staying on track? It used to be keeping a food diary, but with SlimFast you don’t need to do that, because the calorie counting is done for you. Do you have any fitness goals for 2018? To find a good gym in London where I can get into the classes. Which celebrity’s body do you admire? Elle Macpherson’s. She’s older than me and looks amazing! ‘I won £37m for victims of the Breast Butcher’

hen faced with a life-threatening illness, the one person you hope to have faith in is your doctor. It was the early hours of September 13, 2017, when I finally put my key in the door. I’d worked 24 hours straight, with my phone glued to my ear and my hands poised on my keyboard, ready to tell my clients they would finally be getting their money. For the last four and a half years, I’d been working with vulnerable patients who had at best been fooled, and at worst mutilated, by a doctor called Ian Paterson. Many had died while under his care. Creeping up the stairs, I heard my twoyear-old daughter Jessica snoring softly in my double bed, which she loved to climb into. She looked angelic as I snuggled up beside her. I knew I’d missed countless hours of playing, painting and reading. But I also knew one day she’d understand why. “We’re nearly there,” I whispered. “Soon you’ll have your mummy back.” It had taken so long to bring the abhorrent Paterson to justice, but it was later that day that we finally got the Ian’s victims result we wanted. gave a statement I’d always felt a duty to stand up for what’s right. After studying French and Latin at university and getting a job in events, I decided I wanted to be a solicitor. I passed my exams in 2008 and in January 2013 landed a job with law firm Slater and Gordon, which specialises in medical negligence. I moved to London from my new-magazine.co.uk

unnecessary or unsuitable operations, mainly on breast cancer patients. Solicitor Emma Doughty, 35, who lives in Stamford, Lincolnshire, represented some of the most severely affected, spearheading a campaign for compensation. Here, she tells new! how it felt to handle one of the most notorious legal cases in medical history…

hometown of Stamford with my husband Jon, a recruitment manager. It was later that year when I took over a very unique case from a colleague – that of Dr Ian Paterson. He’d been suspended by the General Medical Council in 2011 due to questionable practices, having worked in hospitals run by the Heart of England NHS Trust and Spire Healthcare since 1993. But even though he was under investigation, he was still treating private patients in the West Midlands.

CanCEr DIaGnoSIS Over several months, I delved into shocking case histories, mainly involving breast cancer patients. Paterson had removed perfectly healthy breasts, diagnosed cancer when there were no signs of it and operated using questionable methods. This rogue doctor had

Emma appeared on the news to discuss the case

been working in a largely unpoliced way for years. “We have to get justice,” I whispered. One of the first victims I spoke to was Carole Johnson. She was in her late 50s and had undergone several lumpectomy operations on her breasts while under his care. “He was God to me,” she said when we met. “My husband and children would refer to him as ‘my saviour’ as he’d got rid of the cancer.” In reality, Carole had never had cancer and the ops were needless. Before long, I was listening to breast cancer patients who now had a terminal diagnosis after Paterson carried out a “cleavage saving operation” instead of a full mastectomy. He left some tissue behind, promising he could keep their breasts intact, but this allowed secondary cancers to grow. “I thought he knew best,” one sobbed. But it wasn’t always breast ops – one lady had 12 colonoscopies and was told colon cancer would have killed her if Paterson hadn’t operated. She spent her life savings travelling because she was told it was only a matter of time before the cancer returned. In fact, she simply had a digestive condition. Around 700 patients who all underwent extensive, life-changing operations for no medically justifiable reason came to light. Some could have recovered with a simple course of antibiotics. It was gobsmacking. The case trundled on. Although Paterson was arrested in 2013, he wasn’t insured and no one would take responsibility. Doctors like him were contractors and Spire, the private healthcare company he worked for, refused

Carole was duped by ian

‘i had Seven oPS – BUt never had CanCer’ to accept they were at fault. Every day, while Paterson was out on bail, I’d spend hours seeing new clients, taking down She’s now their stories and sifting spending time through their medical with her family records, gradually building a case. It made for disturbing reading. I’d often be haunted by the horrors when I got home from work. I fell pregnant in 2014, but continued to work tirelessly on the case. I had hyperemesis gravidarum – severe morning sickness – but even that couldn’t stop me. When Jessica was born in July 2015, I took six months off. Breastfeeding my baby, I felt more empathy for Paterson’s patients. One couldn’t breastfeed her newborn because he’d damaged her milk ducts. It must have been so sad for her.

UnlawfUl woUnding I adored motherhood, but I knew the case needed me so after six months, I was back at my desk. “She’ll be proud of what you did one day,” Jon would say whenever guilt got the better of me. Paterson’s victims became my family, as we all supported each other through the seemingly endless waiting game. Finally, in April 2017, Paterson appeared at Nottingham Crown Court pleading not guilty. He was convicted of 17 counts of wounding with intent and three counts of unlawful wounding. The court looked at a sample of victims and several of my clients gave testimonies.

But while his jail sentence – which was upped from 15 years to 20 years two months later – was welcomed, my clients still hadn’t received any compensation. I couldn’t stop fighting. Each day, I’d leave the house at 5am to get cracking on sifting through over 40,000 vital documents from defendants. I’d work through lunch, rush home to get Jessica to bed, then fire up my laptop again. I barely slept, but we were making progress. Finally, last September, an unprecedented £37.5 million compensation deal between Spire and the NHS was announced. I’ve never been more dedicated to a cause so I was elated. Of course, the money wasn’t enough – far from it – and I couldn’t stop thinking of all those poor women who’d lost their lives. That day, I appeared on the news and Jonathan recorded Jessica’s reaction to seeing me on screen and sent it to me straight afterwards. “Mummy!” she squealed at the TV. It brought me to tears. Closing the case felt strange. It had taken years of blood, sweat and tears. I was pleased it was over, but felt a strange emptiness too. Now, we’re waiting on the public inquiry into the regulation of private doctors. Management staff at private hospitals need more power to weed out malpractice. It’s just sad that it’s taken something so horrifying to highlight the shortcomings in the existing system.

Carole Johnson, 65, is a retired publican who lives in Sheldon, Birmingham, with her husband Barry, 70. She was treated by Paterson over the course of 12 years… I found a lump in my right breast in 1990 and was referred to Dr Paterson at the Spire Parkway Hospital, Solihull. He was warm and comforting so I felt like I was in safe hands when he said it was “borderline cancer” and “would need to come out”. I was operated on that week. Over the next 12 years, I found seven more lumps and Dr Paterson always operated. Cancer loomed over me and I lived in constant fear of dying and not seeing my kids grow up. But in 2012, weeks after I’d last seen Dr Paterson, an official at Spire Healthcare called me. “Dr Ian Paterson has been suspended,” she informed me. At first, I fought his corner and told them I’d always found him to be an absolutely outstanding doctor. But they had facts to show otherwise. Within weeks, I was sent to a specialist for a second opinion on my cancer. They took a look at my breasts and my medical notes then told me, “You never had cancer, nor a risk of it.” I burst into tears of shock. My lumps had been benign all along. It’s taken me until now to fully accept what Dr Paterson did and I feel bitter every single day. Seeking legal action and getting compensation provided some solace, but it will never bring back those lost years.

Protein is essential for growth and repair of the body but we don’t need loads of it to get buff. Most people require just 0.8g to 1g of protein per kilogram of body weight – so 50g a day is enough for the average woman. “You can reach this with regular, everyday foods. For example, one pint of milk throughout the day in cereal, tea and coffee (20g), three scrambled eggs on toast (20g), then one small chicken breast with vegetables and potatoes (20g),” says dietitian Faith Toogood. Some protein shakes contain 50g per serving, so guzzle a few of those a day and you could be heading for overload.

Soy, hemp, rice, beef and pea protein powders are also available. “Most are high in complete protein, with carbohydrates to restore muscle glycogen and support recovery,” says nutrition expert Shona Wilkinson. “Some also contain branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs), thought to be essential for muscle protein synthesis and repair.” But they can also contain artificial sweeteners and flavourings. In November last year, Fabien Van Johnson, 22, from Kent, died after taking pills and protein powders to boost his endurance in a bid to get into the army – and he’s not the only one. Katie Price was criticised over “irresponsible claims” about her nutrition range, while the idea that protein shakes can lead to bulging muscles is also flawed. As Linia Patel, of the British Dietetic Association, points out, “Muscle is gained through a combination of resistance training and a balanced diet.”

Overloading on protein can trigger a range of short-term health issues, including bad breath and constipation. But some side effects can be much more serious – even fatal in some cases. Our kidneys play a crucial rrole in filtering waste from the bbloodstream but too much protein puts them under pressure. In fact, it’s thought the growing number of people developing kidney stones – a result of waste products in the blood – may be due to rising protein intake. The stats suggest a 136 per cent increase in hospital admissions for kidney stones in the ten years to 2014. “Protein consumption generates a lot of varying acids,” says Dr Daniel Fenton, of London Michelle Keegan Doctors Clinic. “Anything in excess has spoken of enjoying highcan have severe consequences.”

While protein can help build muscle, excessive amounts of it can deplete the levels of calcium in our bones. A study published in The American Journal Of Clinical Nutrition found that high levels of protein can cause hypercalciuria, where calcium stops being absorbed and is instead excreted in our urine.

‘I used a surrog just like Kim’ m L

ast month, social media went into overdrive as Kim Kardashian and Kanye West announced the birth of their long-awaited third child. The couple used a surrogate to bring daughter Chicago into the world, as Kim had high-risk pregnancies with North, four, and Saint, two. Charlotte Watkins, 41, a drama teacher from Twickenham, Middlesex, knows

“Ava is my number one,” cooed my daughter Lily, five, staring into her sister’s eyes last week. Whenever Lily says things like that, my heart soars. It means everything we did to bring her sister into the world was worth it. Ever since I can remember, I’ve wanted lots of children. And luckily my IT consultant hubby Duncan, who I married in October 2010, was just as keen as I was to have a big family, even though he had a son, Lucas, 14, from a previous relationship. I hoped I could soon make our dream a reality. Happily, I fell pregnant in 2011 and finally went into labour when I was ten days overdue in April 2012. But tests revealed I had meconium in the womb – when the baby passes faeces – which can be dangerous. “We’ll have to induce you,” said the midwife at Kingston Hospital. But the oxytocin, a hormone drip they use to induce labour, wasn’t checked properly. Over the course of 18 hours, I was given too high a dose.

It was a junior, inexperienced midwife who told me it was time to start pushing at 11.30am. “You’re fully dilated,” she said. But the pushing was agony and no baby appeared. When a doctor finally did check me over a few hours later, they found I wasn’t actually dilated, so pushing had caused hyperstimulation of the uterus and horrific damage. Suddenly, I was rushed in for an emergency caesarean. new-magazine.co.uk

exactly how it feels to long for another child as Kim did, while knowing that having one naturally isn’t an option. After a traumatic birth with her first daughter Lily in 2012, she turned to surrogacy to have her second child, Ava, who was born last year. Here, she tells new! why she feels it was the best decision ever…

I didn’t even get to hold Lily, who Charlotte weighed 8lbs 12oz, had surgery after giving because I was birth to Lily bleeding so heavily. The last thing I remember was Duncan’s ashen face as I signed papers agreeing to a hysterectomy. “Look after my little girl,” I croaked as I was rushed in for emergency surgery, fearful I may not even wake up. But a day and a half later, I finally came round in intensive care, having lost eight units of blood. While Lily was thriving, I couldn’t even sit up. “You gave us a real scare,” said Duncan. Usually so strong, he had tears in his eyes. When I finally got to spend time with Lily, all I could feel was a crushing guilt that I’d missed hours of bonding. “I’m sorry,” I sobbed. But I was lucky that my ovaries were left intact – the rest of my reproductive system was gone. Still, the big family I’d always dreamed of had been snatched away. After a week in hospital, I plucked up the courage to ask doctors about our options. “There’s always surrogacy,” they said. But I had mountains to move before then. Going home with Lily was tough. I’d imagined attending baby groups and play dates, but just a stroll with the pram left me on the point of collapse. Despite everything, I was adamant I wanted to breastfeed

“Fergie’s eyebrows appear elevated. With the ageing process, the skin around the eyelids will naturally start to droop. Botox injections around that region can raise the eyebrows, which will prevent the skin around the upper eye from sagging.”

“Her forehead now appears shiny, taut and wrinkle-free. This could be due to regular Botox injections.”

“The tip of her nose does appear to be less bulbous and elevated, which brings the nostrils up slightly. The nasal bridge looks a bit tighter and slimmer, too. This could be achieved with a rhinoplasty.”

“Her lips are plumper than before, but it’s the shape that is the noticeable change for me. They appear plumper towards the corners, rather than just the middle, creating a perfectly symmetrical, luscious lip. This look could be achieved by using dermal fillers.”

“To maintain the volume in her cheeks, dermal filler injections could have been used. If she has had some, she shouldn’t have more done for the time being. She should have a top-up when the filler begins to go down.”

“Her chin and jawline do appear to be much tighter and sculpted. The jawline is sharper and her chin appears more rounded and curved. This can be achieved with injections of dermal fillers.”

What was the last book you read? The Mother Of Black Hollywood: A Memoir by Jenifer Lewis. I love that she bares all in the book. Who do you think is on TV too much? Donald Trump! He’s quite offensive to me, my lifestyle and my beliefs. Who’s not on TV enough? I’d love them to bring back The Golden Girls. I loved it as a kid. Sia vS DaviD GueTTa anD afrOjack helium As certain as death and taxes, it’s a given that everything Sia touches turns to gold. And never is that more apparent than when she teams up with superstar DJ David Guetta. Remember Titanium? This single is more of the same genius – a rousing anthem from the pair, who have roped in DJ Afrojack for that extra wow factor. Not only will the touching lyrics make you want to cuddle the person next to you, the addictive beat and uplifting

chorus will have you dancing with them too. It’s one of Guetta’s best efforts in years – and considering he’s a man with his fingers in a hell of a lot of musical pies, that’s saying something.

BOO-tiful reality star Georgia Kousoulou is no longer sceptical about spirits…

Are you a sceptic or a believer? When I started the show I didn’t believe. I’ve never had a reason to. But now I’m a true, full believer. You can’t not be after the stuff we saw and heard! It took me a week to get over it. What happened?! There are new devices now that you can use to talk to spirits and interact with them… Wow. Even ghosts are getting in on the millennial tech action… Ha, I know, it’s mental! But they were fully coming through on these devices! Honestly, you

The celebs try to contact ghosts using a chalkboard

won’t believe it until you watch it. When I’ve watched things like this in the past I’d be convinced it was a producer or someone playing pranks, but it wasn’t like that. I’m a full believer now. How did your fellow celebs cope on the show? I’m in the second episode along with Chloe Sims, Chloe Meadows and [Georgia’s boyfriend] Tommy Mallet. Chloe Sims and I were the most scared. Normally I can’t stop talking, but at one point I was so gobsmacked I couldn’t even speak. But Tommy was

loving it. He’s got the gift, you see. Excuse me? The gift – he can sense and feel the spirits. He spoke to them! So he’s a bit of a ghost whisperer? When he was younger he’d go to all these spirit-y type events. His nan had the gift too, you know. He wasn’t scared at all doing the show. I thought he might hold my hand or something, but he was off! What was Chloe M like? She was great, actually. She really got into it. She was right up the front, running about and loving it!

Georgia admits she was so scared she felt sick

What was the scariest moment? There was a bit near the end of the episode where we went down to the basement and – I don’t want to give too much away – I just felt sick. I wanted to cry. The psychic said it was the worst thing she’d seen in all her years of doing it. I had to keep repeating to myself, “The dead can’t hurt you!” It was like I was in The Blair Witch Project or something! Celebrity Ghost Hunt begins Tuesday, February 6 at 10pm on 5STAR

Force oF Nature JaNe Harper We cancelled all our plans when we heard the brilliant Jane Harper was bringing out a follow-up to her fab crime novel The Dry. And we’re glad we did, because Force Of Nature is every bit as gripping as its predecessor. Police officer Aaron Falk is back to investigate, and a connection to the missing woman leaves him even more determined to get to the bottom of BOOK things. don’t miss it.

A classic wartime play about the terror and misery of the trenches during the First World War has been transformed for the big screen. inding yourself in the bottom two on a reality show is never a great experience. So we can only imagine how Lemar Obika must have felt after enduring the Dancing On Ice skate-off two weeks running. However, when we catch up with the singer, just days before his third live performance, we can see he’s keen to move on from his disappointing start to the show. And who can blame him? Especially following the outrage from those who felt judges Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean should have saved Hollyoaks star Stephanie Waring instead of him. Steph herself wasn’t too pleased with the result and even suggested there might have been a problem with the voting system. However, when we chat, Lemar, 39, brushes off accusations Steph is playing the victim, insisting she was just “unhappy” to be leaving. Here, the star discusses Steph, tripping up on live TV and who he’s bonded with off-screen…

A TRUE HERO

I read Lauren Book’s story with great sadness (‘She abused me every day but I still loved her’, issue 760). Apparently, three quarters of children who are abused do not tell anyone about it and many keep their secret all their lives.
