Does this mean me? The supported living project is going to be working with people who rent a room in a house or a flat in a block where other people with learning disabilities also live and Some of the support that they pay for is shared with the other people. This could be someone sleeping in at night, or someone that you can find and talk to when you have a problem.

Problems • It is sometimes not very clear what amount of money is being used for shared support and what is being used for support just for you. • If you are sharing with other people and one person leaves, the cost of your care goes up. • We also now have to make sure that we could not meet your needs for less money if you lived somewhere else.

The plan • We will be meeting with all providers who have paid carers providing shared support into one or more houses. • We will be asking them what level of shared support they think is needed in each house and what level they are providing. • We will hold a review with each person who lives in the house or flat, their family members or advocates if they need one, and the provider. • We will agree with the provider what outcomes the shared hours member of staff would be expected to meet.

At your review • The care manager will identify the level of shared hours support that you need, and look to see if the shared hours offer in the house or flat is enough or too much to meet your needs. • They will also identify what needs you have that would not be met through the shared hours offer, and let you know how many hours of individual time you will have to meet those needs or outcomes.

Your support plan • Your support plan will then have at least two agreements showing on it. • The first will be the shared hours offer, which is your share of the cost of the shared support. • The second will be the number and cost of the individual hours that you can use more flexibly. • If you wish to have more hours of individual support than we think you need you will need to pay for these yourselves.

What if the shared hours offer is too much? • If the shared hours offer is higher than is needed to meet your needs we will tell you this. • We will talk to you about what will happen next. This may take a little bit of time while we find out all the options. • One of the options will include you paying for the extra support if you can afford it.

What if the shared hours offer is too low? • We will continue to pay for the higher level of support while we look for other options. • Once we have found at least one other option we will talk to you about all the options, and with your family or your advocate, help you choose. • We will then plan the move with you.

What will be better? • When someone leaves, the cost of the shared support will be paid for by Devon County Council so it will not be part of your costs. • You will know exactly what you are paying for and what you can expect from the shared hours support. • You will know exactly how many hours of individual support you are having.

What if I am funded by health or another local authority? • At the moment we will not be reviewing you or changing how your support is funded
