“Please, take your seat”: con questo invito B&B Italia annuncia le nuove proposte 2011 e ne circoscrive l’ambito. Il tema delle sedute è sempre stato, per l’azienda, un autentico punto di forza: in questa tipologia rientrano tutti i nuovi prodotti 2011, ciascuno dotato del segno personalissimo di chi l’ha disegnato, Antonio Citterio, Patricia Urquiola, nomi di richiamo internazionale, accanto ai quali si collocano quelli di Gabriele e Oscar Buratti, alla seconda
esperienza con B&B Italia. Tutti i progettisti hanno raggiunto risultati di grande concretezza, lavorando a quattro mani con il Centro Ricerche e Sviluppo interno, la cui eccellenza è ovunque riconosciuta, impegnandosi in un processo di elaborazione spesso lungo e complesso: le nuove sedute sono oggetti funzionali, esteticamente espressivi, curati nei dettagli, prodotti industrialmente e destinati a durare.
“Please, take your seat” is the greeting with which B&B Italia announces its new product launches for 2011. Seating, which has always been a particularly strong part of the brand, is the focus of its creative work this year with each product bearing the mark of its designer. For 2011, the work of internationally renowned designers Antonio Citterio and Patricia Urquiola is joined by products from Gabriele and Oscar Buratti, who will be presenting their second designs
for B&B Italia. Working together with B&B Italia’s Research and Development Centre, whose excellence is widely acknowledged, all the designers achieved impressive results, dedicating themselves to an often long and complex development process. The new chairs are functional objects, aesthetically expressive with attention to detail, industrially produced and designed to last the test of time.

E’ una poltroncina di grande eleganza, nata sotto il segno di una modernità equilibrata che le consente di dialogare con stili e mondi diversi. Ha origine da una struttura pieghevole in fusione di alluminio, spazzolato lucido o cromo nero e si presenta con una serie
di rivestimenti che la interpretano con esiti alternativi: dal cuoio che ne dà una versione più classica, ai tessuti di cotone profilati in cuoio, sino ai tessuti tecnici che la rendono vivace nelle colorazioni. Due altezze previste per lo schienale garantiscono un comfort su misura.
Beverly is an extremely elegant armchair of a balanced modernity that enables it to interact with diverse styles and settings. It is contoured by a folding frame in aluminium alloy with a bright brushed or black chrome finish. It is also available in a variety of covers that enable alternative
interpretations: from leather for a more classic version to cotton fabrics with leather profiles or technical fabrics that enliven it with bright colours. Two heights are available for the backrest, guaranteeing customised comfort.

Il tema della sedia viene risolto esplorando lo sviluppo tecnicoformale del cuoio. Monomaterica, essenziale, confortevole e ricercata nei dettagli, Doyl introduce la tipologia della sedia di cuoio imbottita nella quale si invertono le geometrie classiche, trasformando alcune linee normalmente concave in parti convesse, contribuendo così alla percezione di morbidezza. Fondamentale la
volontà di caratterizzare il progetto con segni grafici, dati da cuciture continue, una sul fronte/seduta e una sul retro/schienale, in corrispondenza delle linee di taglio e di giunzione del cuoio, che si presenta piegato, tondato e rigirato, ma mai tagliato. L’imbottitura conferisce ad una sedia in cuoio un comfort inusuale, mentre materiali tecnici alternativi offrono varianti dalle tonalità vivaci.
The seating theme continues with the exploration of the formal and technical development of thick leather. A simple, comfortable chair with refined details created in just one material, Doyl introduces a type of padded leather chair where the classic proportions are inverted, transforming lines that are normally concave into convex sections, and thus enhancing the perception of softness. The designers placed
great importance on graphic markings, created through continuous stitching on both the fronts and backs of the chair which correspond to the cutting lines and junctions of the thick leather. The leather is folded, curved and turned inside out, but never cut. The padding adds surprising comfort for a leather chair, while alternative technical materials offer brightly coloured variations.

Una scocca rigida in materiale plastico e una serie di cuscini soffici: questi gli elementi a partire dai quali è stata progettata la poltrona Husk, che utilizza un linguaggio progettuale inedito, quasi un inno alla morbidezza. Provvista di pouf poggiapiedi, Husk è il risultato di un lungo lavoro di messa a punto che ha saputo preservare la sua originalità di pezzo unico, capace di dialogare anche con il divano più classico. Tre le tipologie del cuscino: standard, di misure più generose e avvolgenti oppure con poggiatesta, mentre il supporto alla scocca si presenta fisso oppure girevole. Giocando sull’ampia gamma delle colorazioni e delle finiture della scocca
(in materiale plastico riciclato in quattro tonalità), del supporto (nelle finiture verniciato nero, rovere naturale o rovere grigio) e dei rivestimenti (pelle o tessuto in numerose varianti), Husk è in grado di mutare radicalmente il suo aspetto e diventare ora monocolore, ora vivacissima, ora sofisticata. Un elemento importante del suo processo produttivo, grazie al quale B&B Italia affronta il tema dei materiali riciclati e riciclabili, fa sì che tutte le sue componenti siano assemblate in modo da consentire la loro totale separazione, agevolando così il processo di riciclo e diminuendo l’impatto ambientale.
A moulded plastic shell and a series of soft cushions: these are the basic elements of the Husk armchair. A celebration of softness, Husk is the result of a long development process to create a versatile armchair that is both unique in its own right and able to complement even the most classic sofas. Three types of cushions are available: standard, large and very large or with a headrest, while the body support can be either fixed or rotating. A ottoman footrest is also available. Playing on the wide range of colours and finishes of the body (in four-toned recycled plastic), the support (in natural oak or grey or black lacquered wood) and covers (numerous
types of leather or fabric), Husk can radically change its appearance, from a single colour to an extremely bright or subtly elegant style. With this project, B&B Italia embraces the theme of ecology by using both recycled and recyclable materials, and components that can be fully disassembled in future – thus simplifying the recycling process and reducing the environmental impact.

Con Tufty-Too, Patricia Uquiola riprende uno dei progetti di maggior successo nella sua collaborazione con B&B Italia e conferisce a questa famiglia di divani un nuovo aspetto, morbido e contemporaneo. Il rivestimento,
facilmente sfoderabile, è caratterizzato da cuciture in tinta e a contrasto che diventano anche motivo decorativo. La nuova gamma di tessuti offre interessanti alternative di texture e di colore che si affiancano a quelli già esistenti.
With Tufty-Too, Patricia Urquiola recalls one of the most successful designs in her collaboration with B&B Italia and adds a new, contemporary and soft appearance to this family of sofas. The cover, easily removable, is distinguished by
matching and contrasting stitching that becomes a decorative motif. The new range of fabrics offers interesting alternatives for texture and colour that complement already existing items.

A dieci anni dal suo debutto che non vede flessioni di popolaritĂ , Landscape di Jeffrey Bernett ha dotato di movimento le sue linee aeree ed agili. Una base a dondolo la trasforma nella piĂš contemporanea delle rocking chair, mentre
un materassino dalla superficie tridimensionale, studiato da Kvadrat per B&B Italia in sette varianti di colore (senape, viola, giallo, beige, salvia, arancio e testa di moro) ne accresce il comfort.
Ten years since its debut and no less popular, Landscape by Jeffrey Bernett offers a sensation of movement with its lithe, airy lines. A new rocking base transforms it into the most modern of rocking chairs, while a cushioned seat with
a three-dimensional surface, designed by Kvadrat for B&B Italia in seven colour variations (mustard yellow, purple, yellow, beige, sage green, orange and dark brown) enhances its comfort.

Presentati lo scorso anno, i tavoli bassi Surface, di Vincent Van Duysen, ampliano la gamma con tonalitĂ forti e intense (in totale 15 colori). Ora diventano piĂš vivaci grazie alla presenza della finitura laccata lucida per piani e divisori.
Also augmented since its debut last year, the range of low Surface tables by Vincent Van Duysen is now available in a range of strong and intense shades (15 colours in all). The tables are even more lively thanks to the option of a glossy lacquer finish for shelves and dividers.

Ray, il sistema di sedute di Antonio Citterio, presentato nella scorsa edizione ottenendo una immediata popolarità, si completa quest’anno di poltrona, imbottita come il divano e con le medesime impunture a punto cavallo, dedicata
sia all’ambito domestico sia al contract. Analogamente a Ray, anche al divano Jean, già dotato di una poltrona dalle linee smussate, si aggiunge ora una variante a pozzetto di dimensioni contenute.

Ray, the seating system by Antonio Citterio that was met with immediate success at last year’s Milan Furniture Fair, is enhanced this year with an accompanying armchair padded like the sofa with the
same blanket stitch detailing, suitable for both the home and contract sectors. Like Ray, the Jean sofa, which already includes a rounded armchair, now adds a smaller tub version.

La collezione, coordinata da Antonio Citterio, vede una pluralità di interventi con i quali il progettista ha contribuito all’ampliamento del tema sedute, siano essi divani o poltrone. Tra le novità: un restyling del divano Lutetia che prevede la presenza più importante della struttura in legno, un unico cuscino seduta trapuntato ed una serie di cuscini liberi per lo schienale. Anche la serie Febo amplia le sue finiture e le sue tipologie: da monomaterico ora può vantare il basamento in legno (5 varianti: rovere naturale, marrone,
grigio, nero e fumigato) oppure gambe cromate o nichelate. Nuove la sedia, con linee più avvolgenti, e la poltroncina ora con braccioli.
Nuovi piani di marmo, nero Marquinia e bianco Calacata, rendono ancora più importanti i tavoli da pranzo ed i tavolini della collezioni Simplice.
Contenitori e tavoli si presentano con una inedita finitura in rovere fumigato e superficie a taglio sega che conferisce loro una raffinata coloritura marrone-grigio senza nascondere le venature del legno. Restano evidenti, grazie al taglio che riproduce la manualità di quello a sega, tracce della lavorazione che aggiungono valore a quell’eleganza senza tempo, cifra della riconoscibilità Maxalto.
La serie Agathos si amplia con due nuove poltrone, girevoli e con fodera in tessuto, con schienale alto o basso.

The new Maxalto Collection, coordinated by Antonio Citterio, sees a number of changes that the designer has used to expand the range of chairs, including both sofas and armchairs.
In addition, the new collection expands on the Febo series, with new versions offered in a range of finishes a wooden based design (available in five variations - natural, brown, grey, black and smoked oak) with chrome or nickel legs. The series also includes a new chair with more enveloping lines, as well as a small armchair now available with armrests.
These new pieces include a new design for the Lutetia sofa which is emphasised
Storage units and tables are presented with a brand new finish in smoked oak and saw-
cut surfaces that add a refined brown-grey hue without concealing the grain and leaving, thanks to the cut that recreates the handcrafted look created by a saw, visible traces of the work, adding value to that timeless elegance, a recognizable code for Maxalto. New marble shelves, black Marquinia and white Calacata, make the dining tables and small tables in the Simplice collections even more striking. The Agathos series is expanded with two new swivelling armchairs with a fabric cover and high and low backrest.
