The school
Welcome to the Institut Européen de Français. In 2005 the IMEF and the Odyssea French school joined to form the Institut Européen de Français, offering a wide variety of French language courses. The Institut Européen de Français welcomes students, professors, and professionals from all over the world throughout the year. Classes sizes are small, the ambiance is both friendly and studious, conditionals are optimal and will allow you to make the most of your French language study ! Located in the historic center of Montpellier in a beautifully renovated 17th century building, the Institut Européen de Français boasts spacious, sunny classrooms and an environment particularly favourable to the study of language and culture in the South of France.

Personalized instruction in a convivial setting. Classes are organized by group level and your progress is evaluated each week. A certificate of French Studies is awarded to all those who participate and complete the coursework.
Optimal organization. Group composition is reviewed each week and participants’ progress evaluated. You’ll benefit from free access to the Resource Center and unlimited Wifi access. Desktop computers are also at your disposition.
Complementary services. Upon your arrival : an information meeting, a guided visit of Montpellier, and a welcome drink. A cultural activities program, sports and excursions with professional guides are offered every week. The courses
We offer a wide range of French courses adapted to your needs. Our pedagogical method solicits students’ active participation and promotes intercultural exchange. Instruction incorporates all linguistic activities (listening, reading, taking part in conversation, oral presentations and written expression), with concentration on the receptive skills needed to promote comprehension, and the productive skills of oral expression. With the use of various supports (from authentic documents or “realia� to educational materials), participants are provided access to the language in a manner both fun and practical, friendly and motivating ! All educational and communicative criteria based on the CEFRL : Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Professional French. Our professional courses are primarily aimed at business professionals and students who need to improve or expand on their language skills in general business, medical, tourism and the judicial sectors. Professional French Programme : 28 lessons 20 lessons of General French + 2 free workshops of 45’ + 6 one-to-one lessons For the one-to-one lessons : at the time of your registration, we will ask you to complete a questionnaire to determine your needs and expectations.
French for specific purposes. Our tailor-made specific courses offer students, executives and business managers of organisations, governmental departments and institutions an environment to learn the language skills which are specific to their sector. Each of the courses are researched and developed for each student (or group of students) to ensure that core requirements of the language are covered and understood. Instruction is carried out on a one-to-one basis by teachers specialised in the methodology of FOS (Français sur objectifs spécifiques). French for Specific Purposes Programme : 22 lessons 20 one-to-one lessons + 2 free workshops of 45’ At the time of your registration we will ask you to complete a questionnaire to determine your goals, needs and expectations.
French for teachers. You are a teacher of French as a Foreign Language (primary, secondary, or higher education) in your own country : these trainings offer you the opportunity to renew and perfect your pedagogical methods, together with French teachers from various countries. A level B2 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) is required to participate. Pedagogical organization. A total of 25 hours per week including : - Morning modules : 3 hours every morning, Monday through Friday. - Afternoon workshops : 2-hour workshops, 3 times per week. - Civilization conferences and teachers’agora : 4 hours per week. Access to the Resource Center, including Wifi internet connection.
Other trainings for teachers of french as a foreign language organized throughout the year : - Sessions for DNL (Non Linguistic Discipline), bilingual sections - Sessions for Teacher Training, counselors, and Pedagogical Coordinators - Sessions for intensive pedagogical training à la carte. French for Juniors and groups. All year long we provide French language programs for juniors and groups at the request of our international educational partners. Our tailor-made courses further enhance the studies of students in their native countries by learning and practicing French through our immersive programme. Each program is developed in accordance with the needs and expectations of all participants through the guidelines provided by their group leader to ensure that each course is relevant to the student’s native study programme.
A typical programme would contain the following study elements :
Morning language courses : Progressive training in the five language skills: listening, reading, interacting, expressing oneself orally and writing. Exam preparation : Option of coursework focusing on preparation for the DELF and/or the DALF, Arbitur, or International Baccalaureate. Option of coursework in preparation for and leading up to the examination for the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Paris (CCIP) Afternoon Cultural Activities and weekend excursions : Cultural visits to discover Montpellier, the Languedoc-Roussillon region, sports activities, linguistic clubs focusing on a variety of interests (cooking, traditional dances, singing, art, wine- and cheese-tasting‌). These essential excursions linked to course content provide your students with the ideal opportunity to practice and reinforce what they have learnt while increasing their confidence to communicate in French.
Discovery stay. Our discovery programme has been designed with a sense of adventure in mind and is perfect for those wanting to experience the variety and richness of French culture in the south of France. During your stay with us you will be taught by our experienced teaching team who will give you the language skills needed to effectively communicate with confidence. In addition, for 12 months of the year our dedicated cultural events team is on hand to provide you with a fun, entertaining and authentically French experience. --------------------------------------------------------------

So whether you are new to the French language, looking to improve your level, retired, on a sabbatical or are just looking for a fun experience this programme is for you. This programme combines language and cultural discovery based on the theme « Art of living in the south of France » with local product tasting, meetings with actors of local cultural and social life: discovery of history, heritage (monuments, museums) and natural landscapes. Discovery Stay : (2 weeks minimum) : 22 lessons of 45’ per week 20 lessons of General French + 2 free workshops of 45’ + Cultural activities pack: two cultural discovery workshops + Two half-day excursions + One full-day excursion during the 2-week stay.
Internship experience : professional experience. We organize internships with companies in Montpellier and the surrounding region for students looking to gain some valuable experience of what it is like to work in France. These placements offer a perfect opportunity for students to test the waters and gain real insights into what professional life is like in a French company. Our professional partners include : The office of tourism of Montpellier, Apartement Hotel CITEA, LearnEnglish.fr, Oculture, Evasion, Restaurant Mogador, Pâtisserie Scholler... Description : In addition to the course, these internships are usually offered after a minimum of 2 weeks of language study, in various branches of business sectors including: hotels, tourism, language tuition, restaurants and bakeries. Minimum 2 weeks of General French : 22 lessons of 45’ per week 20 lessons of General French + 2 free workshops of 45’ The internships are intended to acquire a professional experience and are managed through our student services department. --------------------------------------------------------------

During the summer (July and August) and during high activity, the Institut Européen de Français reserves the right to modify course schedule. Our courses can take place in another location and be organised at the end of the day from 4:00 pm to 7:15 pm (15’ break at 5:30 pm), in order to guarantee the best quality of training.
French Language of Integration Our courses in French Language of Integration are aimed at a public migrating to France. It is a daily use of the French language and learning tools for a smooth integration into French society (including knowledge of customs, principles and values of our society). The French Language of Integration is acquired through immersion. It emphasizes oral and reading but also writing.

The accommodation
A wide choice of accommodation.
To make your stay in Montpellier as easy as possible, we can reserve your housing option. These accommodations, selected with care by our team, are bound by a quality contract with the Institut Européen de Français.
Homestay. Ideal for total immersion, a homestay accommodation allows you to discover the culture and the rhythm of life “à la française”, it will also result in a more rapid progression of your French language skills. - Bed and Breakfast Formula : own bedroom + breakfast 7 days per week. - Half-board Formula : own bedroom + breakfast and dinner 7 days per week.
Shared Apartment. In this type of accommodation, you’ll meet participants from the 4 corners of the world and be able to share your experience with them. This is the most economical housing option. You’ll have your own bedroom and share the kitchen, dining room, and the bathroom with other occupants.
Residence Apart-hotel** This residence is situated in a quiet, residential neighborhood, 15 minutes away from the city center by tramway. During your stay in Montpellier, we are pleased to offer you a rich and varied programme of cultural activities and excursions, associating the practice of the language with a living discovery of the natural, social, and human environment. The activities which are offered “à la carte” or included in our “Discovery stay” and Option 5 “Summer Campus”. They will include depending on the period : guided tours, excursions to cities and sites within the Languedoc, film outings, performances, sports, wine tasting, singing, pottery, traditional dances … As part of your stay, you can take advantage of a free guided tour of Montpellier each week.

The day of your arrival : a welcome/information meeting and a Student Guidebook. A welcome drink offered the first day after the morning courses. Free tour of Montpellier : In order to familiarize yourself with the city center and points of interest, we offer a guided visit by one of the school’s professors. Unlimited access to the Internet and wifi connection, will be able to send and receive email. In the Resource Center you can work independently, borrow books, and read magazines and newspapers. Workshops : Twice per week, special workshops will help you reinforce precise grammar, spelling, pronunciation, conjugation, as well as perfect your spoken expression, listen to French songs, take part in role-playing games... and learn real, idiomatic spoken French ! --------------------------------------------------------------

Depending on your personal tastes and interests, outings (aperitif, restaurant, clubs, international soirees, film, theatre, picnics... ) are organized. Classes can sometimes be held outside the classroom ! In a café, a market, a museum, while shopping … A Certificate of French Studies is granted at the end of the program to all students who have conscientiously followed their coursework.
