Melina del Mar “Rising” At Desa Seni, A Village Resort, Bali, 2017 Melina hails from a long lineage of Chilean artists. Growing up between brushes, colors, and canvases, Melina’s formative years were spent under the watchful guidance of her Grandmother Cuca Burchardt, and her mother, Carolina Landea. Both recognized Chilean painters, from whom she learned the discipline of observing the reality. Melina quit her studies at age 14 to immerse herself totally into the world of art. She left Chile at the age of 15 and traveled to Rome to study the works of the renaissance masters such as da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Raphael. There she began to dedicate herself seriously to the work of a painter and to spend hours every day among museums and the streets of the city. Capturing with enthusiasm images of the town, the architecture and the spirit of the remarkable city. Shortly after her return to Santiago, thirst for knowledge and hunger for discovery led her to embark on a new adventure, one that would stretch across the Pacific. This odyssey saw Melina delve deeper into the exploration of her soul, her art and the rich exotic culture of Asia. The last 18 years of Melina’s life has seen her grow both as an artist and as a woman. Her work with South American Shamans, her studies with Indian Mystics, Yogic Masters and her everyday experiences living side by side them, are threads that form the rich tapestry of inspiration in Melina’s life work. Melina had created a cosmology where sadhus, monks, and tigers coexist with the wisdom provided by mystical symbols, sacred geometry, mudras, angels and yoga asanas. What Melina paints is not only the representation of her perspective of reality but also the invisible weaving dimensions of their energetic connections. After ten years since her last solo exhibition in Bali, Melina is delighted to share her last years of work and passion at the beautiful Desa Seni. She had chosen the name “Rising” for this show, to express an estate or desire for rising, where her paintings aim to become windows from where the observer can connect with an estate of spiritual awareness.
