A little treat from One Luxury goes a long way T
he Bridgend store was established on the ethos that everyone deserves a treat every once and a while, and with its vast array of ladies fashion, giftware, homeware, jewellery, scarves and accessories it’s the perfect outlet for women of all ages to find something that little bit special. Entrepreneurial mum and daughter team Marie and Kelly Craig have brought their extensive knowledge of fashion to bear on the business with their phenomenally successful label Bardot Accessories given pride of place in store. Created eight years ago, the brand today supplies some 300 stores across the UK, Ireland and Europe. The client base stretches from independent retailers such as The Pamela Scott group in the South, Pavers Shoe Group in England and Shoe Link Ireland, Panache in Moygashel, Carino in Omagh and Dromoland Castle to large department stores such as Debenhams. A former beauty queen, Kelly has had life-long fascination with glamour. “Ever since I can remember - I’ve loved
to Mike Sarne a former pop star and director and was rumoured by some to have been the inspiration for Jennifer Saunder’s character in Absolutely Fabulous.” In 2004, Kelly and Marie launched the wholesale and supply fashion accessories business. “I wanted to design accessories for every woman, of every age. My mother had always instilled in us the notion that ‘every woman deserves a little luxury’.”

I just didn’t know how to hone it. “I launched my handbag business nine years ago and it’s all grown from there.” Mum Marie had been involved in fashion retailing all her adult life and with the launch of Gorgeous on Ferryquay Street - she introduced a string of prestigious labels never before available in the north west, among them ‘Ghost’ and ‘Morgan’. “I remember mum introducing me to Tanya Sarne, the founder of Ghost and the inspiration between what’s now a huge brand. The business quickly gained a reputation for affordable high quality and high fashion accessories. In 2011 the family business launched branded manufacturing in China and the ‘Bardot Accessories’ branded label was born. One Luxury’s new plus-size range is now also available with a new plus size shop due to open soon. The collection includes scarves in a spectrum of colours and fabrics including pure silk and linen, crochet and lace combinations, belts, bags and jewellery. With more than 300 clients, it seems that the brand is bucking the trend in the economic gloom. That success has been reflected in the company’s first retail outlet ‘One Luxury’, which is located at Devlin’s Complex in Bridgend.

For Kelly the inspiration for the plunge came from an opinion piece in a magazine which proclaimed the triumph of luxury over austerity. “The columnist argued that although everyone is tightening their purse strings, women still want to treat themselves and everyone’s idea of luxury is different - it could be a candle, a handbag, something for the home, maybe a gift for someone else or a treat just for you.”
