Lead the Way

DTA invites you to at the 2013 DTA Annual Meeting featuring a dynamic lineup of speakers, entertaining programs and quality networking time in a beautiful oceanfront setting. Let us help you take your leadership to the next level. Reserve your place now to learn from Tom Peters, “the Red Bull of management thinkers”. Sally Hogshead will measure the Fascination meter of our audience and enlighten us as to why customers remember you, trust you, respect you, and buy from you. Zanny Minton-Beddoes will give us a global view of today’s economy and Marko Vujicic will share “The New Realties of the Dental Care Landscape.” Join Doris Kearns-Goodwin at Thursday night’s dinner where she will educate us on the “Leadership Lessons from Abraham Lincoln.” Networking? We’ve got it…from Monday night’s DTA Women in Business Network dinner to our optional Wednesday night dinner and entertainment, “Florida Style”. Ponte Vedra is a resort setting, so business or resort casual attire is appropriate, no need to pack a tie! The weather should be perfect with highs in the upper 70’s and lows in the 60’s. Cool evenings will definitely require a sweater or jacket. Please take a look through this brochure for all the information you’ll need to make your plans to attend. We look forward to seeing you this fall! “Great leaders are almost always great simplifiers, who can cut through argument, debate, and doubt to offer a solution everybody can understand.”

History of Ponte Vedra Inn and Club What is now North Florida’s most prominent resort address certainly had a humble beginning. In the early 1900s, Ponte Vedra Beach was nothing more than a pristine wilderness of sand dunes, swamps, alligators and palmetto trees. The region first captured attention when, in 1912, a vein rich in minerals was discovered running through the dunes. The area soon evolved into a frontier mining town with worker’s quarters, a post office and general store. The transformation from former mining town to nationally-recognized seaside community began in the early 1920s when local land planners skillfully developed the area to maximize its natural beauty. Just the mere mention of the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club conjures up images of quiet opulence, grace, stateliness and history. A Florida landmark since its celebrated opening in 1928, this 300-acre oceanfront beach resort is a perfect refuge for recreation, relaxation, romance and reflection. Three generations of guests have been indulged in a world of deluxe accommodations, fine cuisine, top recreation and exquisite service at Florida’s premier resort. The resort features access to picturesque beaches, luxury amenities, and premier Florida golf courses.

DTA Golf Tournament October 16, 2013 12:30 – 6:00 p.m. Designed in 1928 by famed British architect Herbert Bertram Strong, the 6,811-yard, par 72 Ocean Course represents the area’s first resort golf experience. Praises have followed the Ocean Course from the very beginning. In 1939, the Ocean Course was selected as the host for the prestigious Ryder Cup Matches. Unfortunately, just months prior to the scheduled event, it was cancelled due to the onset of World War II. In 1942, after completing a match, golf legend Bobby Jones commented, “It’s a course to challenge professionals.” Five times in its history, the Ocean Course has proudly served as the site for the U.S. Open qualifying round. Cost for this event is $175 (includes boxed lunch and 19th hole refreshments) plus $75 club rental if needed.

DTA Tennis Tournament October 16, 2013 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. The Ponte Vedra Inn & Club is the birthplace of tennis in Northeast Florida. Cradled between green fairway and blue Atlantic, Ponte Vedra’s Racquet Club has evolved from a single clay court more than 80 years ago, to its honored status today as the official tennis club of the ATP World Tour. A full complement of year-round resort activities, instructional programs and packages continue to attract tennis enthusiasts to the resort year after year. Cost for this event is $20 per person.

Dinner at the Outpost: Gators and Grub October 16, 2013 6:30 – 10:00 p.m. Join us at the Ponte Vedra Outpost. Along the water, amid oak trees, this secluded spot is the perfect setting for a southern coastal tradition featuring a low country seafood dinner and entertainment “Florida Style”. The Outpost is a beautiful outdoor venue with a rustic enclosed pavilion. It’s only a few miles from the resort, but worlds away. Mingle with your friends before dinner or take time for a photo op with one of our friendly alligators. Tap your feet to banjos and fiddles. After dinner watch our tag team of alligator wrestlers. As the stars come out, be a star gazer using our computer controlled telescopes. Space is limited so add this special event to your registration. Cost for this event is $150 per person (includes transportation to and from the event site, dinner and entertainment). 5
