Long Lake Central School announces valedictorian and salutatorian awards LONG LAKE — Long Lake Central School has announced that the recipients of this year ’s valedictorian and salutatorian awards are Colleen Nerney and Jordan Wallace. In a class of eight seniors, Nerney is the valedictorian with a current average of 94.12. Colleen plans on attending St. Lawrence University as a recipient of the Augsbury Scholarship. She intends to major in education. Colleen’s extracurricular activities have included soccer, basketball, band, jazz band, student council, National Honor Society and various plays and musicals both at school and at the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts (ALCA). She has participated in CASMA All County and Northeast Music Festivals throughout high school. She has served as student council secretary, class secretary and class president. Year in 2007 and 2009. She was awarded the 2008 Peacemaker Award, the Most Improved Player for 2008 in soccer and Honorable Mention for artwork at the Lake Placid Juried Art Exhibit. She has been an active volunteer working for such organizations as ALCA and Adirondack Abilities and at events like Adopt-A-Highway, Parents as Reading Partners, Community CleanUp Day as well as several other student-organized events to raise funds for groups like the local fire de-

partment, breast cancer awareness and earthquake victims in Haiti. Colleen is the daughter of Michael and Camille Nerney of Long Lake. Wallace is the salutatorian with a current average of 93.71. Jordan plans on attending the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry and majoring in construction management. Jordan’s extracurricular activities have included baseball, basketball, soccer, National Honor Society and student council. He has

served as both student council president and class president. He was awarded 1st Team All-League in baseball, 2nd Team All-League in soccer, Most Valuable Player for soccer in 2009, Long Lake Central School Athlete of the Year in 2009 and has received Scholar/Athlete individual awards from 20072009. Jordan will graduate with six college credits taken online from Tompkins Cortland Community College. Jordan has also been an active volunteer with organizations such as the Long Lake Volunteer Fire Department and the Long Lake Fish and Game Club and at events like Adopt-A-Highway, Community Clean-Up Day and several other student-organized events. Jordan is the son of Gregg and Nancy Wallace of Long Lake, New York. Congratulations to both students. The school and community are very proud of their accomplishments.

Registration opens for Writers Workshop

Cloud-Splitter Outfitters to host demo day

THURMAN — The Fiction Among Friends Writers' Workshop Day hosted by Persis Granger at the Thurman town hall will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 19. A 9:30 a.m. workshop, “Breathing Life into Your Characters,” will allow writers to try their hands at developing characters for both fiction and nonfiction using action, dialogue and description. A 1 p.m. workshop, “From Desktop to Bookshop: Getting Your Book Published,” will delve into the variety of avenues open to those wishing to publish works, including traditional publishing, print on demand publishing and self publishing. Participation is limited to 20 people. Beginner and intermediate writers of fiction and nonfiction are welcome. Preregistration with deposit is requested by June 15. Honors Night scheduled at Johnsburg NORTH CREEK — Johnsburg Central School and the Johnsburg Central School Teachers Association will hold Honors Night 2010, an evening of student recognition, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 3, in the school gymnasium. Letters will be sent home to parents of students in grades 7-12 who will be acknowledged at the ceremony. All community members are welcome to attend.

Health Quest 2010 planned QUEENSBURY — Hudson Mohawk Area Health Education Center (HM AHEC) recently announced Health Quest 2010, local paid summer internships. HM AHEC, located in Queensbury, serves Essex, Hamilton and Warren counties among seven others by building partnerships to strengthen the healthcare workforce. Students work in a health care setting for six weeks and applicants must be high school students that have an interest in health care and demonstrate a reliable work history. Sage Graduate School announces graduation of Jessica Plumley ALBANY — On May 15, Jessica Lauren Plumley was conferred the degree of Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) from Sage Graduate School. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Athletic Training in May 2007 from Russell Sage College and has been working for multiple school districts and agencies in this capacity for the last three years while attending Sage Graduate School.
