The Michigan Wolverines football dilemma Kelvin Butler Reporter @KelvinButler19 UNIVERSITY CENTER - After a very disappointing game by the University of Michigan Wolverines team; where they lost to the Michigan State Spartans 27-24 in their highly anticipated rivalry game. Now here comes the dilemma of the Wolverines football program, they are always good enough to be ranked, but never good enough to be championship contenders.

A program like Michigan’s, with tons of prestige and history, deserves recognition with all of the achievements they have accomplished. But ever since this new millennium has started they have not been to a national championship game. First, they only have two Big Ten conference championships, with the last one coming from 2004 which was shared with the Iowa Hawkeyes. Secondly, they’ve only defeated all of their rivals on their schedule twice since the two to the triple zero appeared on the calendar. Also there’s the fact that MSU and Ohio State have been to the

Delta College on the ballot Jordan Green Editor-in-Chief @Jordan_Green6 UNIVERSITY CENTER — Delta College has won its millage renewal and restoration proposal. Voted for by the Bay, Saginaw, and Midland counties, the millage renewal passed with more than 25,000 votes in each county. The election held on November 3rd also had three Board of Trustees spots for the three counties for Delta College. Each spot holds a six-year term. The newly elected trustees are Michael Nash of Midland County, Karen Lawrence-Webster of Saginaw County and Diane Middleton of Bay County.

College Football Playoffs; while the adorable Wolverines haven’t, aww. But things were lining up to be Michigan’s year this year, with them having a dynamic looking quarterback starting. Something they’ve lacked in the Jim Harbaugh era. But with them having a eight game season, the Michigan State loss already put their championship aspirations to rest. Then add in the fact that this season was a wash and now many people are wanting some coaching changes. It perfectly highlights the dilemma the program is facing. They will always be top 25 quality but their football program will never reach the

promised land until further notice. But Ayyy! Who knows, the Wolverines can come together and be world wreckers from here on out and win the rest of the way; and other top teams can slip up and lose a few games. Giving the Wolverines their first College Football Playoff appearance in program history. So with that, stay safe everyone.

Has COVID made the Holidays feel more intense? Haeley Huggard Managing Editor @HaeleyHuggard

SAGINAW — With Halloween behind us it is safe to say that we can begin getting our stomachs and wallets ready for Thanksgiving. While we are at it, we may as well let the Christmas shopping begin too. Since COVID-19 has started, it’s easy for us to notice how it has affected everyone, this is including retailers. Stores close earlier than they normally would, we have to wear masks while in the building, stay six feet apart while waiting at checkout, the list goes on. But with all of the feelings COVID has brought with it, now comes the holiday emotions as well. Could this mean that the holidays will be a bigger deal this year or that more emphasis is being put on the holidays because so many of us are still at home?

Photo from Fuzzy's Restaurant Facebook page. Midland resident Jocey Buckler expressed concern that the holidays won’t feel normal because families will be unable to be together. “Family is really important

Fantasy Football Rankings Kelvin Butler Reporter @KelvinButler19 UNIVERSITY CENTER - After half of the season has been played we’ve seen a lot from many of these talented NFL players and shockingly these players have been extremely productive to say the least. These former players have been performing in each of their games for the most part. So their great performances should encourage you, as we are getting closer to the fantasy football playoffs. God have mercy on your opponents if you drafted these players or took them off the waiver wires. If you think there are players that should be on this list, that were not included, email the Delta Collegiate or hit us up on Instagram with your opinions! Top top surprises 1. Justin Herbert (QB) - Los Angeles Chargers 2. Joe Burrow (QB) - Cincinnati Bengals 3. James Robinson (RB) - Jacksonville Jaguars 4. Todd Gurley II (RB) - Atlanta Falcons 5. T.J Hockenson (TE) - Detroit Lions 6. Myles Gaskin (RB) - Miami Dolphins 7. Will Fuller V (WR) - Houston Texans 8. D.K Metcalf (WR) - Seattle Seahawks 9. Travis Fulgham (WR) - Philadelphia Eagles 10. Indianapolis (DEF) - Indianapolis Colts

to me and it makes me sad to think we can’t all be together.” Buckler says. Because smaller gatherings are encouraged (which means possibly having fewer guests for the holidays) means that now is the time to emphasize simplicity and gratitude. With all of the events that have taken place over 2020, perhaps we can just be thankful that this year is almost over. If you are still planning a small get-together this year remember to follow the guidelines set forth by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Remember to wash your hands frequently and limit the amount of people handling the food. With the holidays quickly approaching it is important to stay safe but not let our celebrations slip away just because COVID-19 is still hanging around. “I am hoping, however, that we can focus on the reasons for the holidays and be grateful for our time together. That being said, I feel we will really appreciate our time together because of it.” Buckler said.

Can the Lions devour the Washington players? Kelvin Butler Reporter @KelvinButler19 UNIVERSITY CENTER - Week ten of the NFL season schedule makers blessed the Detroit Lions with an easier opponent, in the form of the Washington Football Team. I have the Lions winning the game 30-16 in a close game in the beginning but the Lions will secure the win in the second half. The Lions offense will tire out the Football team’s defense with their offensive potential. With lots of young players oozing potential making play after play. Granted if quarterback Matthew Stafford gets off the COVID-19 list and plays obviously. But if Chase Daniel starts, crap might hit the fan due to him not having good chemistry with the starting receiver and backs heading into the game. But who knows he might have the game of his career. Now on the Football Team’s side, they have a great defense, full of young players they drafted throughout the years. Their teams identity lays on their defense shown by all of the draft capital on that side of the ball. They do have a couple playmakers on offense so they can score. But, don’t expect them to win a shootout at all this season. So their defense will present the Lions offensive line some issues, they might even stop the Lions run game. So it’ll all be up to the Lions playmakers to score the touchdowns and ultimately win the game. Also, seeing that the Lions participate in the trade deadline shows that they are trying to make a playoff push this season. Hopefully this attempt works out for them but the NFC is looking really competitive right now. So they should have to win every game from here on out if they want to guarantee a playoff spot this year. By the way things are looking, anything under a 11-5 record might not even make it to the playoffs. So with that, I predict a comfortable 30-16 win over the Football Team, to get them trending and headed in the right direction and to start their playoff push.

From one Student to another, Here’s some tips on finishing the semester strong Jordan Green Editor-in-Chief @Jordan_Green6 UNIVERSITY CENTER — And just like that, the familiar warmth of summer, the birds chirping and the sunsets at 9 p.m. are now all strangers as we settle into the Winter months. Except, this isn’t any other Winter. It’s our first Winter with the COVID-19 pandemic continuing to sweep the nation while keeping us under strict safety guidelines. On the bright side, however, the end of the 2020 Fall semester is in sight. With less than six weeks to go, and a Thanksgiving break thrown in, the long awaited semester break is coming up. But if you’re like me, and like most college students, you might be feeling burnt out and struggling to finish the semester on a strong

note. Deep procrastination might be settling in as the itch for a school free break edges closer. Take a deep breath and read through some tips on getting your end of the semester under control.

Make a List •

If you’re struggling with remembering to finish tasks and assignments on time, try making a list of everything you need to do for each class and check each list off one by one. Don’t feel too intimidated by a long list either. Start with a simple task and cross it off. Starting is the difficult part.

Talk to your Professor’s •

If you’re unsure on where you stand, or what you can do to improve the outcome of your class, send an email to your Professor and ask them.

In my experience this semester, my professors have been more than understanding with some of the issues I’ve come across.

Check up on Due Dates •

It’s November and I’m pretty sure last week was the end of September. How did this happen? Well, it’s a pandemic and time has ceased to exist except when it passes obnoxiously fast. Check your due dates and make sure you aren’t missing them.

Don’t feel guilty for taking care of yourself •

Work and school. School and work seem to be the only things in my life in the moment. Incorporating your home,

or bedroom, as your classroom can confuse you into believing that whenever you’re at home, or you have some casual downtime, you NEED to be doing your school work or else you will feel guilty. Trust me, it is okay to put off your online classes until after you do some housework, fold clothes, grocery shop and whatever you need to do to take care of yourself.

Most importantly, be kind to yourself. You are experiencing something unprecedented in anyone’s lifetime. Balancing online classes, when you’re used to inperson classrooms is stressful. Attending college is stressful enough as it is, and it is okay to feel a bit burnt out as we head into our final weeks of the Fall semester.
