Freeland Trump rally brings out mixed emotions and protests Jacob Bohlinger Student correspondent The President arrived at about 7PM, but dozens of supporters camped out for hours, or even days. (Murdock, MLive) We encountered several tailgates, as well as extravagant displays of support for the President in peoples’ yards, outfits, on cars and kiosks. I had the opportunity to speak to some of these folks, in one interview we approached a group of about six Central Michigan University students who were tailgating roughly an hour before the speech. One student expressed a focal point of his support for the President being the economy under the current administration, declaring he fears graduating in a few years and not being able to find a job if Trump were to lose the election. Strongly enforced by

accounts from these tailgaters as well as other supporters, many had traveled and spent time in wait for the rally, but, they were more than happy to do so to experience this event. In a conversation that we had with another couple that were tailgating, they expressed their infatuation with the President’s personality and non-filtered speech. “His no filter attitude. I love it. I absolutely love it. There is nothing hidden, you know exactly what he’s thinking. They say he’s a bully. He was just nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize, how is he a bully?” She was of course referring to the nomination for the President’s part in facilitating a peace agreement between Israel and the UAE. During his speech, Trump monologued about returning automobile and medical manufacturing back to Michigan, launched a verbal assault on Democratic presidential nominee

Joseph Biden, and boasted about foreign relations. A key point that was conveyed in this speech as well is Trump’s “America first” mentality. He spoke along with chants from the crowd in support of the US-Mexico border wall as well as how the construction of the wall is progressing. We had a chance to talk to protestors who occupied the intersection of Garfield and Sarle near the MBS airport. The protest was called “Dump Trump” and signs from the protest read “Trump/ Pence #OutNow”, “Jail to the Chief”, “He lied 190,000 died”, as well as many more in opposition of the President. They expressed severe concern for the negative impact the President has had on this country. The opposition of Black Lives Matter, captivity and deportation of immigrants and their children, police militarization

and mass incarceration, racist/ homophobic/xenophobic remarks and action, and much more was at the center of the frustration of these protestors. The protest was peaceful on their side, but accounts from the speaker of the protest and others who were in the area told us that a passing by Trump supporter hurled a cup at the speaker obtained at a concession stand. After the speech, a conglomeration of Trump supporters attempted a counter protest on the other side of the intersection, chanting “white lives matter” and other aggressive remarks towards the protestors. This was in tandem with Trump supporters who were driving by after the rally, yelling at the protestors in support of Trump and in opposition to the Black Lives Matter/Refuse Fascism movements.

Freeland- Protestors occupied the intersection of Garfield and Sarle, near the MBS airport, at the Trump rally. The protest was called “Dump Trump” and signs from the protest read “Trump/Pence #OutNow”, “Jail to the Chief”, “He lied 190,000 died”.

Award-Winning DeltaBeat is coming to an end Jordan Green Reporter @Jordan_Green6

UNIVERSITY CENTER — With College campuses across the nation adjusting to the changes of COVID-19, student-ran clubs face their biggest issue of 2020. How to survive the budget cuts. Heading into the fall 2020 semester, the Delta Collegiate’s budget was cut over 75%. Leaving the student-run paper since 1961 to

From having a staff equipped with a photographer, illustrator and a videographer, to just three reporters and two page designers. The Collegiate has its work cut out for the staff to continue the recent legacy of the Delta newspaper. While the staff works to maintain its promise of keeping it’s readers up-to-date, some things will just have to do without. Unfortunately, due to lack of staff and equipment, the DeltaBeat is coming to an end. The DeltaBeat is an award winning newscast created and produced by

the Delta Collegiate members. In 2019, the DeltaBeat ran against over a thousand four-year college Universities and other community colleges at the College Media Association’s Spring convention. The DeltaBeat came out on top to win the David. L. Adams Apple Award. An award given to “best of show” in the Television Newscast category. In the spring of 2020, the newscast ranked at number three during the College Media Associations convention. “I feel that it is very unfortunate and frustrating that it has come to this,” DeltaBeat creator, Michael Pieper, comments. “The DeltaBeat single handedly brought in a wide variety of viewers and recognition to the team.” Not only was the DeltaBeat a way to engage with students who prefer to get their news from an actual newscast, but it brought experience to those who were a part of it. The series featured anchors, stories, sports and interviews from the community, resembling a professional news organization.

More than just the experience The main attraction for students to join clubs and organizations at their college is to gain real-life experience. At the Delta Collegiate, students seeking a career in the journalism field can get the hands-on experience that will give them a leg up in the professional world. We’re able to build a portfolio of our articles and work, build connections in the community and relationships with faculty and advisors who can guide us on our next steps into the world. By cutting budgets for clubs and organizations like the Delta Collegiate, we are preventing students from gaining the much needed experience to be successful in the world. Pieper adds that as a student in the Media and Production field, the Deltabeat was a way for him to experience the complete creative

process. From beginning with a creative idea to finding ways to distribute finished products. “The hands on experience that the Collegiate, and the DeltaBeat provided me was the best part of my three years at Delta College,” Continues Pieper. “It was very valuable to me as a creator to lead such an important and creative endeavor. The recognition and awards we brought home from large college competitions should have been enough to keep the series alive.”

President Donald Trump Campaigns in Freeland, Michigan Jordan Green Reporter @Jordan_Green6

FREELAND — The quaint town of Freeland saw an exponential growth on September 10, as more than 10,000 supporters of President Donald Trump packed into the town of 7,000. MBS International Airport hosted the event with doors opening at 4 p.m. and the President flying in on Air Force One at 7 p.m. to deliver his first campaign rally speech in the Great Lakes state. The airport was expecting about 5,000 attendees according to MLive. “‘Everyone seemed to be in good spirits… Overall, it went as smoothly as it could with that amount of people.’” Comments James Canders, MBS Airport Manager to MLive. Enjoying the Thursday night rally was Bay City native Abbie Obermiller and her two sons Cameron, 12, and Izekyel (Zeke), 9. The family arrived at the event around 4:30 p.m. and managed to nab standing overflow near where the President was to speak. A Trump supporter since 2016, Obermiller says seeing the President was “Overwhelmingly, amazing.” “You can feel the patriotism, love of country and freedom in the air.” Obermiller’s two sons said they were excited to see all of the security guards stating that some looked like “Call of Duty Black Ops” characters. Obermiller comments that she believes if reelected, President Trump will continue to bring peace, love, unity and hope. “I can’t wait to see what else is in store for the next four years,” says Obermiller. “Including bringing back principles that are so important for our country that have been changed or forgotten.” While supporters like Obermiller

made their way to the event for a night of patriotism, Quinn Huu Nguyen of Bay City geared up for a night of EMT Service. Multiple medical units, police cars and officers were set up for the rally as a precaution for the night. The only negative incident was a “Dump Trump” rally across the street. Only minor verbal altercations occurred between the opposing parties. Working for Mobile Medical Unit of Bay City for the past three years, Nguyen says he volunteered to work the rally just like any other event. “Obviously, there was a lot more security going into it,” Says Nguyen. “ I had to do a background check and our ambulance had to be checked out by security.” Nguyen says for the event he was camped out in a building with members of the Secret Service waiting to respond to any incidents. While the night had zero altercations between supporters, Nguyen comments that being in the presence of Secret Service members was a bit intimidating at first, but as the night carried on, tensions eased in the room.

Detroit Lions take on New Orleans Kelvin Butler Reporter @KelvinButler19

In the NFL’s fourth week, the Detroit Lions will play against the New Orleans Saints at Ford Field. Thus I will forecast my prediction about the upcoming game. With all my might I predict that the Saints will win 41-27 in a game where the Saints will be front running the whole time. Allowing the Lions offense to get some cheap fourth quarter points. On paper the Saints have the better offense, defense, and coaching staff. Which will be shown in the game where Saints head coach Sean Payton will out coach the Lions head coach Matt Patricia. Due to Sean’s ability to correctly put his personnel in the right

situations, more times than Matt. Roster wise the Lions are weaker in every position when compared to the Saints. However the Lions did have double digit leads against the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers. The Lions will have a strong start in this match. But will they be able to keep their offense going without losing steam? If their offense loses firepower, this will affect their overall performance in the game, resulting in a disappointing performance. Sadly the loss will put the Lions at 1-3 for the season. There may be some chemistry issues with all the new additions to the Lions team. Having no cohesive offseason may also be a disadvantage. The Lions had a tough break with the schedule. Their easier stretch of fame will be starting on week ten, again the Washington team.

Will the Michigan Wolverines conquer 2020? Kelvin Butler Reporter @KelvinButler19

The Big Ten Conference recently announced that they will be starting their college football season in mid to late October. The teams schedules have been released, including the Michigan Wolverines. I have the Wolverines going 6-2 this season. Big Ten teams will only play conference teams in their eight game regular season schedule. The Wolverines will have a respectable schedule this season, with the Big

Ten being one of the two toughest conferences in college football. The Wolverines have a tougher schedule this season, when compared to other opponents and outer conference teams. One of their losses will come at the hands of the Ohio State Buckeyes at the end of the season. The Wolverines team seems easily intimidated by the Buckeyes, giving them a mental advantage. Even in previous years when the Wolverines had the odds in their favor, they let us down in their attempts at victory. I predict one loss

for the wolverines; the second will be at random. They play four more tough teams aside from the Buckeyes. The Minnesota Golden Gophers, Wisconsin Badgers, Michigan State Spartans, and the Penn State Nittany Lions; I have them winning 3-1 in those four games. That is being generous knowing that Jim Harbough struggles against stronger teams. To wrap things up I predict the Michigan Wolverines winning 6-2 for 2020 despite this difficult time for college football.

It’s time to break up with bleach wipes Haeley Huggard Associate Editor @HaeleyHuggard UNIVERSITY CENTER — By now everyone is tired of the love-hate relationship they have with their bleach wipes. Sometimes they are there, and sometimes they go missing for weeks at a time without even calling. Then just when we think we will never see them again; they’re sitting on the shelf seducing us with their promises of disinfecting our surfaces. If bleach wipes have made you tired of riding this emotional roller coaster maybe it’s time to reconsider your options. There are many different types of cleaning products out there and each one seems to serve a specific purpose. It’s time for us to put these seven cleaning supplies to the test. They are available at your local retailers and relatively inexpensive. 1. Pledge Antibacterial Multi Surface CleanerWhat’s great about this product is that it is sold at your local Walmart and Dollar General. This product can help keep dust off surfaces like coffee tables or night stands and kill bacteria. 2. Good old-fashioned liquid Clorox Bleach also does the trick- Be sure to dilute this down with water before using. This cleaner also disinfects and cleans a variety of

surfaces in the home. As an added bonus Bleach also can brighten your laundry and remove stains. 3. Clorox Clean Up and Bleach Cleaner + Bleach Spray- This is another disinfectant spray that works on a variety of surfaces. This cleaner is great for cleaning off counter tops, tables, and bathroom surfaces. It’s a great way to keep germs away and is available at Walmart and Home Depot. 4. Lysol All Purpose Cleaner- Similar to Clorox Clean Up, this is another all-purpose spray cleaner that is great with cleaning many surfaces. This product can be found at Meijer and is priced between three and five dollars, depending on size. 5. Multi-Surface Disinfectant Glass Cleaner- Windex brand also has a multi-surface disinfectant cleaner. This product can be found at the Office Depot/OfficeMax and covers a variety of

different surfaces such as windows, countertops, and appliances. 6. Mr. Clean Liquid Antibacterial Multipurpose Cleaner- If you have hardwood, linoleum, or tile flooring, you may wish to try using this type of cleaner. This product can help sanitize your floor and gets rid of that unwelcome bacteria. 7. Spray Nine Multi-

Purpose Cleaner and Disinfectant- This product is available at Home Depot and makes a great degreaser and disinfectant spray. This product can be used indoors or on outdoor surfaces. If you do not wish to use harsh cleaning chemicals, all hope is not lost. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) using an

alcohol spray or wipe with at least 70% alcohol will also properly disinfect an area or surface. For more information about household disinfection and cleaning please visit the CDC web page for more information: https://www.cdc.gov/ coronavirus/2019-ncov/ prevent-getting-sick/ cleaning-disinfection.html
