RECAPTURING Business

“The salt and pepper stay married – never to divorce is just one piece of advice that College of Business students received at the Finishing Event and Etiquette Dinner. This advice refers to passing both the salt and the pepper when someone asks for the salt or pepper. The Finishing Event took place on March 25th at 4:30 pm, and approximately 75 students were in attendance. They covered a range of topics, including job interview skills, professional dress, first impressions, networking, cover letters, and resumes. Several students anonymously submitted their resumes to be reviewed by the panel during the forum. The keynote speaker was Tom Perry, a member of the College of Business Advisory Board and CFO of Delta Dental. Faye Silva, from Omnicell, also spoke to students. Silva is a recruiter, and guided students to what professionals are looking for in candidates. The Etiquette Dinner was held at F&M Bank in downtown Clarksville on April 8th at 5:00 pm. Students were required to attend the Finishing Event in order to receive an invitation to the dinner. Approximately 45 students took advantage of this opportunity, including one advisory board member and two faculty members. After dinner, students mingled with coffee on the balcony overlooking the Cumberland River. Missy Acosta from Delta Dental was the keynote speaker at the Etiquette Dinner. The dinner, a four course meal, was catered by Margie Crain. Margie Crain, of Catering by Margie, is a local business owner, and wife to one of our College of Business professors, Professor Wallace Crain. These events were sponsored by the College of Business, and were free to students. The participants were exposed to various cultural differences that they may not experience in a classroom. Kaitlyn Wood, a graduate assistant of the College of Business, was in charge of the logistics of these events. She thought the events were highly successful and gave students some impressive real world experience. Wood hopes that these events will continue to be a part of the College of Business because of their unique benefits to our students.
