Mark Your Calendar! April Meeting Report & GOSGNA Update The April meeting took place at Orlando Health with 35 attending. Dr Ilagan’s talk on Hepatitis B was very informative. Thank you Gilead Sciences for providing the food for this meeting. Raffle gift cards went to Charla Albury, Selma Baker, and Sherry Golden. The 50/50 went to Mary Wagner. Jackie asked that all members make sure that they have been placed in the correct region. You can do this by going to the SGNA site and checking your membership profile. You can also change your region at his site. It is important that we have you in the correct region because monies are allocated to each region based on their membership number. The 5K run/walk sponsored by the Melbourne GI Center was a success with an increase in attendance from last year. Spring into Endo was again a huge success although numbers were down slightly. Jackie expressed a huge thank you to Donna Mckinley for all her work in organizing this event every year. It was decided by the Board that she be named the Spring into Endo Coordinator. Jackie announced that 3 members would be given a $600 scholarship to attend the National SGNA meeting in Indiana in May. These members applied and met the criteria. Congratulations Nancy Dean, Chris Jacobs, and Don Cooper.

Letter from the President First, I would like to give a big thank you to Karla Hicks and her group from Orlando Regional Healthcare for hosting our April Meeting. Dr. Ilagan gave a wonderful presentation on Hepatitis B and since Infection Control is such a big topic with Joint Commission, every institution should be looking into proper immunization especially in Endoscopy. If you didn’t attend Spring Into Endoscopy, you missed a great seminar with some interesting topics this year. I want to thank all the committee members and board for making the event a success. Letter from the President offered us some educational material that we could bring home. Their contribution to our seminar makes possible the education of nurses for National and State Conferences. We really wish to thank them for their efforts! Donna McKinley has been appointed by the board as our new Spring Into Endoscopy Coordinator. Having the seminar at her hospital each year has saved us a lot of money and she has been helping us put the program together for many years. Her expertise and organization in our biggest event of the year will be a great help as each year we learn new things about putting it together. As we try to get new faces in office, Donna will lead the group in getting our Spring Into Endoscopy in shape and newcomers will not feel so overwhelmed.

As I prepare to go to the National Conference in Indianapolis, I wonder if attendance will be up or down this year. With gas prices on the rise and each facility struggling to make their budget work, I know what a commitment this is to make a trip to Indiana. To those nurses we could help, I hope this conference makes it worth your time and effort. I know I have a great time meeting new people and knowing that we are not alone in our efforts to give the best nursing in Endoscopy possible! Hope to see everyone at our next meeting in Melbourne June 14th. —Jackie Mahoney
