Germantown Garden Club

O

On Saturday, October 10th the Germantown Garden Club hosted A Simply Elegant Tea as the organization’s fundraiser for 2009-10. The tea was a combined effort by all of the club’s members. Their efforts included preparing a wide array of foods while others created flower designs incorporating tea sets. These decorations were placed throughout an elegant home on Sanders Ridge for easy viewing. Over 100 people enjoyed the beautiful flowers and wonderful food. A cookbook was sold at the event featuring all the homemade recipes. The monies raised at the event will be used for continuing community projects.

Alzheimer's Association

In July 2009, Dr. Mohan Gehi from Memphis, TN completed his 4th mountain climb to benefit the Alzheimer's Association. Since 2002, Dr. Gehi has completed a charity climb for the Alzheimer's Association every other year. This year he completed Mont-Blanc, Western Europe’s highest peak in the French Alps, at 15,781 feet. Gehi has also climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, Island Peak in Nepal, and Mount Khuiten in Mongolia. “I was about five or eight years old living in East Africa when I first had a thought of one day climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro,” said Mohan M. Gehi, M.D. “Then I started thinking about and said what I am waiting for. That is when I started making the plans and decided I wanted to use the climb as away to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association.” He is board certified in Internal and Geriatric Medicine and has seen in practice since 1977. In recent years he has seen a steady increase in patients with dementia. Both his mother and mother-in-law passed away from Alzheimer’s disease. Dennis Kopical & Renee Smith
