ibson’s Grant is located on the Chester River and Macum Creek, just 3 miles from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. A large coastal woodland tract, granted to John Gibson by King William III in 1658, was expanded to 250 acres with the purchase of a neighboring property and is now the site of an award-winning, planned Eastern Shore new homes community, named for the original land grant. The ideal location and serene setting are hallmarks of the award-winning property that features a 1760s three-story, vintage, brick manor house that serves as the Gibson’s Grant Welcome Center. “Many of our homebuyers are attracted to the convenient location–a primary draw–but also appreciate the natural beauty of the area,” said Mike Burlbaugh, vice president of Elm Street Development, the private real estate partnership behind Gibson’s Grant. “Gibson’s Grant is based on traditional neighborhood design principles. This style of planned community offers enhanced livability, promotes a walkable plan throughout the neighborhood, and encourages preservation and incorporates green spaces. The design philosophy fits with Kent Island’s natural environment.” Residents have access to a 55-acre park that buffers the development’s entrance, maintained by the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center. Building Industry Association. According to Burlbaugh, the development enjoys steady traffic from homebuyers despite the lagging economy. Prices range from mid $400,000s to more than $1 million. “This part of the Eastern Shore has always been a retreat from the more hectic pace of larger cities in the region,” said Burlbaugh, and buyers are responding very favorably to the Kent Island locale. Lending historic charm and character, many of Kent Island’s notable structures have been thoughtfully preserved. In nearby Stevensville, the historic district along with several buildings in town—the Cray House and the former Stevensville Post Office, currently home to The Kent Island Heritage Society—have been included in the National Register of Historic Places. Commuter Connections’ state-of-the-art ridesharing technology lets you view an interactive-and-secure comprehensive list of all potential ridesharing partners in your area. Signing up for Ridesharing with Commuter Connections also allows you to use your account to pinpoint the closest transit stop to your home and work, closest park-and-ride lot, and closest telework center. If you carpool, vanpool, use public transportation, bicycle or walk to work two or more days a week, Commuter Connections will get you home in the event of an unexpected emergency through the Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) program.
