Celebrating the nativity

Thousands gathered for Kaysville’s annual Nativity event, held Nov. 27-28 in the Kaysville Tabernacle. In addition to nativity displays and a live children’s nativity, there were also performances by several musical groups and a history room that focused on an early Kaysville newspaper.

Family Connection Center’s Santa breakfast is Saturday BY TOM BUSSELBERG Clipper News Editor BOUNTIFUL — Bringing your kids to get a photo and visit with Santa – as well as a big meal, Saturday, could do a lot to benefit South Davis kids. That’s because the Family Connection Center’s Breakfast with Santa will go toward reopening the Bountiful respite and crisis nursery facility, here. The event will be held at the Wight House, 95 N. Main, 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Prices are children 2-12, $10, adult, $15, and seniors aged 60 and above, $13. All food is being donated by Associated Foods and Smith’s Food & Drug, while Dan Wight and his staff are donating their time to prepare and serve the breakfast, says Tom Tolman, a member of the FCC Board of Trustees and Bountiful City Council member. In addition, the Bountiful Youth City Council will be on hand performing many tasks, from face painting the

kids, supervising the craft table,“doing all the legwork” to make it happen, Tolman said. “People need to realize that this a fund raiser helping the families in need in Davis County,” he emphasized. “We're a nonprofit organization, we’re not doing this to get a profit. We’re doing it so we can have money to run programs, to help the needy, to help with the respite nursery in Bountiful, to get that back on line.” The nursery had been

housed for nearly five years in an old home in downtown Bountiful. The building is still owned by FCC, but had to be shuttered because there weren’t funds to keep it open. However, the generosity of volunteers has meant a facelift to the grounds, while FCC staff hope the center can reopen soon. The only other respite nursery in the county is in Clearfield. “This year, there is no outof-pocket or staff help from the FCC (for the breakfast). They don’t have it,” Tolman

said. The agency has been stretched to the limit, with demand up by 40 percent at its Food Bank, alone. Staff has had to be slashed by more than half. “We’re getting all kinds of support from people in the community, from volunteers,” he said. “People have purchased tables to seat 10 people, are donating that back to the FCC, to make it possible for those who can’t afford to come to be able to enjoy this.” Inkley’s of Bountiful is

taking photos, making those available to families. Families can also take their own photos with Santa. “This is great,” Tolman said, who admitted he’s rolled his sleeves up to make the event work. “You help the programs to be functional and successful, roll up your sleeves, sometimes, to make it happen. That’s what a member of a board ought to be doing, rather than just attending meetings.” For more information, call the FCC at 801-773-0712.
