He never gives up when the going gets tough. Keep being marvelous! Paige Liston is an excellent student and is very creative. She is very kind-hearted, and makes a real effort to see that all students are accepted. She’s very in-tune to people’s feelings. She has a heart of gold. Brayden Mayer is a hard worker and has an amazing amount of self-control. He’s always respectful and kind. Kylie Mayer made High School Freshman Volleyball Team. Congratulations! FREDDY’S NIGHT! First Lutheran School will have Freddy’s night Wednesday, May 9, 3:30-8:00 p.m. All you have to do is have dinner at Freddy’s! When the cashier is ready to take your order, tell them you are there in support of First Lutheran School, and Freddy’s will donate a portion of your purchase to the school! Tell your friends, family, neighbors, and complete strangers. It doesn’t cost you anything more than the cost of your dinner, and the school will receive a little bit of your purchase price as a fundraiser. REPORT CARD PICKUP will begin Friday, June 1. Remember to check your accounts; any past due school balances or money owed for missing library books/band shirts is due before we will release report cards. Senior citizens and military adults with identification will be charged $3.50. If you’re getting together with friends over the summer, consider stopping in here for lunch and supporting the lunch program! The menu for the end of May and June is attached. Wednesday, May 23 – (the last day of school) - school will be dismissed at 11:20 a.m. For the last day of school; lunch will be served only to children attending daycare in the afternoon. Have a safe summer, and be sure to make time for rest, relaxation, and most of all…God! If you don’t have a home church, we invite you to First Lutheran Church Sunday mornings at 8:30 for the traditional service or 11:00 for the contemporary service. Sunday school begins at 9:45. Also, we hope all the mom's have a wonderful mother’s day on the 13th! I would like to say thank you to all the kids and parents that have made me feel so special this week! You all have brightened my week! It has been a joy to teach my 20 students this year! The kids have turned into awesome readers. I hope everyone has a sensational week! FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Thank you to all the parents for your help at the track meet. It was a fun day and the weather was beautiful! Our memory for Friday is the 9th Commandment - You shall not covet your neighbor's house. We are excited about our field trip tomorrow. Meet at our classroom at 11:00. It is going to be a warm day so I will bring a cooler if you would like to bring extra drinks for your child. Bring a sack lunch and sun lotion! Next week Thursday we will have a movie day, which was an auction item purchased by Drew - thanks Drew! Pillows and blankets may be brought and Drew's mom will provide a special snack. Have a great week! SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: It's nearly summer vacation and I'm already getting a lump in my throat thinking about these precious second graders being third graders. I have learned so much from them and will miss sharing this classroom with them. Thank you! I appreciate all of the goodies I've gotten for teacher appreciation week and the wonderful food the teachers have enjoyed. I will treasure the loving notes and kind words. I'm humbled. Thank you to so many of you who spent Track Meet day with us. And thanks to everyone who organized and planned the many events. Our children did very well and had a wonderful day. Thanks for bringing your child to sing on Sunday morning. They sounded amazing! I know Mrs. Steichen appreciated the children celebrating Dallas' baptism. We enjoyed the first graders' visit to second grade and look forward to next year's recess time. Happy Mother's Day! THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: This year is coming to a close quickly. This week: Memory: Philippians 4:12 and John 3:16. Both are due on Friday. Spelling Test over review words, also on Friday. Reading: We are still working our way through The One and Only Ivan. You may see questions coming home and chapters to read so that we can finish it before the end of the year. A.R. Next week is the last week to meet our goals. Some of us have a long way to go. Yes, Ivan will help (it is 4 points), but some of us need to be reading outside of class. Thank you. Our bowling party will be May 22nd. A note will come home closer to that date. Book Reports: DUE this FRIDAY. I send a note home yesterday about the time to come view our wax museum. Hope to see you all there! DEAR Day: Friday afternoon we will have DEAR day (Drop Everything And Read). Pillows, blankets, snacks, and a drink (with a lid) is welcome. Grades: I am trying my best to keep up. FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: Thank you for all of the wonderful gifts and notes for teacher appreciation week! What a beautiful day we had last week to showcase our athletic and academic talent. The kids are really excited about the auction items that they have seen so far. Keep the auction items coming into school. Keep reading for AR, the party is on the 22nd. The West region will be tested on the 15th. Blessings to you as we wrap up the school year strong and prepare to be 5th graders. FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: The students have done an awesome job on their country oral reports. We have enjoyed learning about different cultures, and we have thoroughly enjoyed delicious food! 5/11 4:15 LadyCat Soccer meeting, 9 – 12 grades, soccer locker room next to concessions under bleachers. Players only—no parents. Mrs. Harbeson: Greetings! Busy, busy, busy! That's how I would describe these last few weeks of school. I know everyone is anxiously awaiting summer break...especially with the weather being so warm and beautiful! However, we do have things coming up! This Friday is Interim Day at FLS. Your student should have brought home a permission slip for parents to sign so he or she may participate. A huge thank you goes to Mrs. Goll for organizing our day. It's going to be fun! In language, all classes have begun their poetry units. We will be finishing up the year in literature with poetry. In language, all classes will have one more spelling and vocabulary test over lesson 15 in Wordly Wise. In grammar, all classes will have one more grammar test. Remember that language folders will be graded the final week of school and that folders are worth a test grade. 8th grade will begin their Google Slide presentations over their chosen college next Monday. That's all I have for now. I pray God's blessings on you all! Mrs. Hanson: 2 weeks left! WOW! But ya know what? We will be learning and studying until that very last day. I am very happy and proud with how well the year has gone. The students have been fantastic learners. So I am going to squeeze every last drop of learning from the school year that we can. 6th grade tested last week and made the decision that their last piece of content is to be work and machines. This is some fun, somewhat simple stuff so we will have a fun last 2 weeks. 7th grade has also decided to move on from earthquakes and start exploring volcanoes! With everything that is going on in Hawaii, there couldn't be a more perfect time to study volcanoes. 8th grade is still looking into genetics. We will be predicting traits in offspring this week using punnett squares. Just a reminder that all classes will have a comprehensive 2nd semester final over content studied since January, which seems like a lifetime ago! This final will be on May 22. We will have at least 2 review days, but studying will need to be done at home. If you know that you will not be here that day, please let me know so we can schedule your final for another date. Mrs. Pacey: We are on the last chapter we will be working on in every class. We will be finishing the year by getting back in to MobyMax and KhanAcademy. I will be sending home a letter about the work we are doing on those sites early next week. Let’s finish the year strong! Mr. Covert: It certainly feels like summer is here a little early this year! I hope that everyone is doing well and keeping healthy as we try to round out the year. Classes are continuing where we left off last week. In 8th grade, we’re looking at the rise of dictators in Europe and the buildup to World War II. 7th grade is in Central Africa this week, looking at a part of the world that most of us rarely think about. 6th grade is discussing political and social revolutions in the 18th and 19th centuries that led to the common folk being more involved in their own government. I pray that God continues to bless our school family as we move through May and towards the end of another school year. Blessings on your week! FUTURE WASHINGTON D.C.
