SNOW DAY?:

In the event that school may be cancelled due to inclement weather, we follow Ponca City Public Schools schedule FOR WEATHER-RELATED CANCELLATIONS ONLY. Listen to your radio during the cancellation announcements, and if Ponca City Public Schools are cancelled, First Lutheran will be out, also; however, there will NOT be a separate announcement for First Lutheran. This only applies to weather-related cancellations; at all other times, follow the First Lutheran School Calendar. If you need a new calendar, go to www.fastdir.com/flcspc, click on the “links” tab on the left, and then click on “2017-2018 Calendar”, or stop by the school office for a new one. BASKETBALL HOME GAME SEASON PASSES for Varsity and JV games are for sale in the office. (Season Passes are not good for tournament games.) They are $20 for adults, $15 for Senior Citizens/Church Members, and $10 for Students. "Knowledge of all kinds is so abundant, what with so many books, and so much reading. One can learn more in three years than used to be possible in twenty." - Martin Luther PRINCIPAL – Mr. Birnbaum: Luther's quote is from 500 years ago and the advances in technology have multiplied exponentially since then. He pushed for education of not only the elite but also for all children…even girls. Martin Luther King Sr. changed his own name and the name of his son after studying Luther and his beliefs in Germany. Luther and King both effected great change. PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Herard: Brr! It's been so cold-we really should get to enjoy snow if we have to freeze! I am missing some report cards. Please sign and return them as soon as possible. The Stephen Fite field trip forms and payment are due now even though the concert isn't until March. Most of Ponca City schools attend so we have to get reservations in early. The 100th Day of School food drive is ongoing. We hope to reach 100 cans by the 26th. The children get to help count and get so excited when we pass the 100 mark! Please help if you can. A box is in the classroom to leave donations. Thanks! Our theme this week is "Space" and our letter is "R". We welcome Cooper to our classroom! You are going to have a great time! Blessings and stay warm. PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly/Mrs. Colvin: We loved having our Dads, Grandpa's and Uncles on Friday for Donuts with Dads! Thanks for coming! I have a few reports cards still out, if you haven't signed and returned yours please get it to me tomorrow. I will send you a copy back to keep. Field trip forms and money were due today; please get those to me by tomorrow. Book orders are due on Friday. Our Chapel offering this month will go to Missions in Cambodia. Our Bible Words this week are, I trust in you, O Lord. Psalm 31:14 We are learning the letter "Kk". Have a Blessed week! KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: The Stephen Fite Concert field trip note is due today with the money! I hope everyone had a fantastic long weekend! Now we are working hard on our reading and math numbers through 20. Have an excellent week! FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Memory verse for Friday is Mark 10:14 - Jesus said, "Let the children come to Me; do not hinder them, for such belongs the kingdom of God. I am still missing a few report cards, please sign and return back to me. Field trip forms and money are due today (Wed), please turn in by tomorrow if you have not done so yet. Our 100th day of school is on Friday, Jan. 26. All of the ECC classes are collecting canned goods and our goal is to have 100 cans. Each child just needs to bring 1 can of food for our Food Pantry at our church. We also will be making a trail mix. Each child can bring 100 items for our mix (any kind of cereal, marshmallows, M&M's, raisins, pretzels, anything you can think of). These items can start being brought in next week. Happy Birthday to Rose on Monday, Jan. 22. I want to encourage you parents to make sure that you keep working with your child with their reading. Each week, new phonic skills are introduced. Please make sure that you are doing their reading homework each night to help ensure their success. Thank you! Blessing on your week! SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: A long weekend is such a treat! Hope you enjoyed your extra time with your precious children. Continued help at home with commandments is appreciated. Remember that we will need a shoe box for each second grader by February 2. Blessings! THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: Finally SNOW!!! I hope everyone enjoyed the snow, and got to play in it while it lasted. This is a short week, but nothing is going to change. Test: math on Wednesday; with Spelling, Reading and Memory all on Friday. This is our last story in this Unit and next week (January 22-26) will be a review week, with the start of our next chapter book. Math: please be on the lookout for flash cards. We have started multiplication; we will be having a fact test over our facts. Right now we should know 1, 2, 5, and 10’s. We have talked about them and they were introduced to them in 2nd grade. If you have any questions please let me know. Have a wonderful week!! -- 2 --

FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: We are back into the swing of school. Make sure to dress appropriately for the weather as we are in full winter mode. Keep practicing math facts and concepts. This helps to ensure that we have speed and accuracy for more difficult math problems, like the long division we are now doing. We are now really ramping up since we are working on being fifth graders and preparing for the future. Keep reading for AR & Book It. Book orders that went home last week are due by the 19th. Remember to bring in your chapel money for Cambodia. God’s Blessings on your week! FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: I know everyone had to enjoy Monday off. Children and parents seem to be REALLY busy at this time of year going to basketball games. With so much activity it is sometimes hard to make time to study and prepare for tests. This Thursday is social studies test 4. Please review with your child. We've discussed in class how very important it is to study a little bit every day. Cramming the study time into several nights before the test does not work well for most students. There is way too much information to study all at once. I am really enjoying all the Christmas gifts from the children. I feel so warm inside when I drink from a mug or use a gift card. You all were so good to me! Thank you again for thinking of me. I so enjoy these students! They are well behaved and fun to be with every day. God is surely blessing me through them. :) Remember...next Wednesday is the school geography bee in the gym at 10:00.

MIDDLE SCHOOL Mrs. Harbeson: Brrrr! Are you staying warm? I can't believe how cold it has been! I'm so grateful for all the blessings that God gives us each day, and I pray for those who are not as fortunate. We are busy in language class. All classes have started their new novels in literature. Please be sure to keep up with your reading! Quiz dates and chapters are listed on the bookmark that I have given to each student. Our first spelling and vocabulary tests of the third quarter were today, and we are all working diligently on our grammar assignments. We are in the middle of a fairly busy time in middle school...lots of basketball games and some traveling. It's really important to stay current on all assignments, especially when eligibility is a concern. If you ever need extra help on assignments, please come see me during study hall or during after school study hall on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Blessings on the rest of your week! Mrs. Hanson: This week we will be doing activities in class that reinforce the concepts we are learning. This means that other work will be done at home. Most classes will have section reviews to complete for homework. Each class will have another vocab quiz this Friday. Flower Grams are available for Valentine's Day. Send someone a flower just to let them know you're thinking about them. Order forms are in the chatter or at the front office. Eligibility gets checked next week. Make sure you are keeping up! Mrs. Pacey: Happy Wednesday! We are working with rational numbers in 6th and 7th grade. We are solving equations involving rational numbers in Pre-Algebra, and we are writing equations in slope-intercept and standard form in Algebra. Mr. Covert: We’re back after a three day weekend! I hope everyone got a little extra rest and rejuvenation with that extra day off. Our classes are picking up where we left off. In 8th grade, we’re going to start with the growth of the population in the western half of the US in the period just after the Civil War. 7th grade is going to be taking a look at Northern and Southern Europe. In 6th grade, we’re going to be talking about the civilization of the Roman people and everything that led to the eventual fall of the Roman Empire. 7th grade parents, there are still some spots open for the tournament this week! The profits are divided up based on hours worked, so the more spots you fill, the more money goes into your family’s DC account! We have another tournament the week after, so keep an eye out for a sign-up sheet for that one, too. We don’t normally have two basketball tournaments a year, so take advantage! These are the last fundraisers until the track meet in May. I pray that God continues to bless our school family as we start moving through 2018 in Him. Blessings on your week!
