We said the first commandment last Friday and will say the second this Friday. While we spend some time working on memory work each day, I'd like you to be sure your child is able to recite memory work before school on Friday morning. Thanks. Everyone has new AR goals for the new quarter. Our reading is greatly improved! Keep up the good work. Please save a shoe box for our Valentine boxes. We'll make them on February 2. Happy January birthday to Maddox, Landon, Caylee, and Lila! God's Blessings, Dear Friends! And Blessings to you, too! THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: Happy New Year!! a parent teacher conference contact me; otherwise I’ll contact you for the 15th. Please make sure that we are studying the SE states and capitols to be prepared for our test. Help the kids to be in the full swing of school, as we prepare to be fifth graders! This is especially true for work to be turned in, in a timely manner. Remember to look at the late detention policy on FastDirect. A great way to do this is to ask the kids what questions they asked in school that day. We had a great first day of long division with remainders! Praise God! Continue to help the kids with the details, process and questions kids have to ask themselves with long division. They can do it! The kids know of a great website they have had lots of practice on; and Stack the States is a great App to practice on. A great You Tube video to watch for capitals is www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQaWFEjTcVc. Have a great week back to school as we bless others in our kindness. FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: Congratulations to John, Landon, and Pierce for being our representatives in the Geography Bee. Please see my Fast Direct Bulletin Board for tests and memory work this week. Happy Birthday on Friday, January 12, to Tanisha. Blessings!

MIDDLE SCHOOL Mrs. Harbeson: Welcome Back! I hope you all had a wonderfully blessed Christmas and a very happy new year! I am so refreshed from a great break and am ready to start the new year off on the right foot! Report cards were sent home last Thursday, so if you haven't seen them, you might ask your student! Parent/teacher conferences are set for Monday, January 15. I am not requesting to visit with any parents for conferences, however, if you would like to meet with me, please send me a FastDirect and I will set up a time for us. We will be finishing our first semester student council responsibilities this week and then starting up second semester next week. Please check your students announcement page on my webpage (harbolanguage.blogspot.com) to see what we will be doing in language and literature this week! Blessings to you! Mrs. Hanson: All classes have started their new chapters. That means we will be learning vocabulary, reading text, taking notes, and doing a little independent research. All classes will also have a vocabulary quiz this Friday. Happy birthday to Margaret and Mallory on the 11th and Ally on the 12th. (I know I missed all of first semester birthdays so "Happy Birthday to all of you!") Mrs. Pacey: Welcome back! We are back in the swing of things for this new semester. We will be having MobyMax and/or Khan Academy assignments starting next week, and the first Weekend Blitz of the new year will be this Friday. We are working with writing linear equations in Algebra. Working with rational numbers is the main topic for 7th and 8th grade, and 6th grade is working specifically with fraction operations. Have a great week! Mr. Covert: Welcome to 2018! I pray that everyone had a relaxing and refreshing break, and had a chance to see friends and family as we celebrated the birth of our Savior. All of our classes managed to reach good stopping points for us to pick up on when we got back. 8th grade is working through the Civil War, discussing the major battles, people, and issues of the time. 7th grade has started in on Western Europe, looking at the landforms and history. In 6th grade, we’re taking a look at Rome, from their time as the Republic the US is modeled after to the Empire that influenced much of the Western world. 7th grade parents, I sent a letter home with your students last week regarding Washington DC. There are some important dates on there, so make sure you’ve read it fully. If you didn’t get it, let me know and I’ll send a copy to you via Fast Direct. I pray that God continues to bless our school family as richly in 2018 as he has in years past. Blessings on your week!
