HELP SUPPORT THE FAMILIES OF ERIE DAWN! Erie DAWN continues to deliver relevant services and be a support to women and children in our community during these challenging times we need your help more than EVER! Erie DAWN addresses the underlying causes of homelessness and works with families to build assets for their future. Specifically, Erie DAWN assists homeless families to transition from homelessness to permanent housing by providing them with a program of housing and support services designed to help them address the obstacles on the way to independence and self-sufficiency. This year, Erie DAWN is celebrating 26 years of providing services to thousands of families and children in Erie County. Erie DAWN helps them to break the cycle of poverty and become independent, contributing members of the community. Denise and her daughter are very grateful for a new place to call home. violence for more than 40 years and delivers these comprehensive services completely free of charge. SafeNet offers safe housing options including short term emergency housing as well as transitional housing. Of the 500 victims housed each year, half are children under the age of 12. Children’s programs including counseling and re-training children are the key to breaking this generational cycle of abuse. We also provide legal representation for Protection from Abuse Orders and other legal issues resulting from the abusive relationship, safety planning, counseling, and advocacy. In addition, SafeNet provides education and training to police officers, healthcare workers, and others so that our community support system has a better

understanding of the challenges and barriers faced by families trying to free themselves from abuse. Victims of domestic violence can visit our offices or make an appointment. We also have a Hotline (814) 454-8161 that is answered 24 hours a day 7 days a week. At SafeNet, our staff helps to build children’s resilience and tap into their sense of joy and creativity. Children’s services are not funded by grants; therefore we rely on the generosity of the community to help children. Violence is a learned behavior. You can help stop the cycle of violence by supporting us. Visit our website at www.safeneterie. org to learn more and please donate to SafeNet on Erie Gives Day.

We continue to recruit the brightest minds and introduce the latest technologies and procedures — to ensure you have access to the region’s most advanced care. Saint Vincent is also the region’s only Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, providing lifesaving medical equipment and support services for our tiniest patients. During Erie Gives please consider a donation to AHN Saint Vincent and Children’s Miracle Network. Proceeds from Erie Gives will support: • AHN Saint Vincent’s Nursing Education Fund to help provide continued growth for our team of caregivers. • Children’s Miracle Network funds will help to support children and their families. Thank you for your continued support of AHN Saint Vincent and Children’s Miracle Network. For more information visit https://www.ahn.org/erie/saintvincent- hospital.

Founded in 1902, the Erie Branch of the American Association of University Women empowers women and girls through education, advocacy, and philanthropy. Over the past fifteen years, we have awarded over $70,000 in scholarships to outstanding adult women students pursuing degrees at local universities. Our annual fundraiser for these scholarships, Lunch & Literature, is held in September of each year and features notable authors. Additionally, we have sponsored Tech Savvy, a one-day workshop for young girls and their parents held in the spring. It introduces them to careers in various STEM fields. We have also partnered with local organizations such as Gannondale, The Erie Neighborhood Art House and the Girl Scouts. We provided funding and leadership for projects that support local girls. Beyond supporting the Erie community, members are committed to their own life-long learning. To that end, we meet monthly to learn from experts about issues affecting our community and nation, especially those that most affect women and girls. Two of these events are open to the public, free of charge. Our branch also sponsors active study groups devoted to interests such as multi-cultural understanding, popular literature, and local dining. While all members are college graduates, we come from diverse fields that include working or retired educators, businesspeople, IT specialists, artists, and social workers.

Erie's Black Wall Street www.eriesblackwallstreet.org

It is no secret that in the past few years, Erie has been ranked the worst city for African Americans, having the poorest zip code in America, and having a wealth disparity between African Americans and Whites of $27,869.

Throughout this challenging year, the Mission has been blessed with the incredible generosity of our community—so that, like Randy, men, women and families can experience transformed lives in unexpected places.

Erie’s Black Wall Street has implemented programming that is specifically designed to address the lack of socialized, institutional knowledge about money, the financial sector & the impacts of social, historical & cultural effects upon Black families from lower socio-economic backgrounds. We provide action opportunities for teaching & learning that are meant to help participants thrive in environments that have, traditionally, excluded them.

Because you gave in 2020, the Erie City Mission continued to serve 128,191 healthy bagged lunches. Because you gave in 2020, 80 men and 16 women continued to receive help for their addiction through our drug and alcohol recovery programs. Because you gave in 2020, the Mission continued to provide 17,538 shelter bed nights. Because you gave in 2020, 41 urban youth continued to learn through our Urban University youth program.

In the last year, Erie’s Black Wall Street’s signature program, Project Renaissance, was launched from the generous community donations from Erie Gives 2020. We were able to educate and repair credit, teach how to budget and save on a limited income, educate on the importance of and how to become a homeowner while giving away $10,000 towards the purchases of homes, and how to navigate creating and marketing a business.

Because you continue to give, the Erie City Mission remains stable and strong—focusing on those most in need. Please consider a gift to the Erie City Mission on Erie Gives day. This is Our City, Our Mission!

Please consider donating to Erie’s Black Wall Street so we can continue our commitment to the enormous task of helping to change these statistics by rectifying the historical oppressions that are inherent in the formal institutional structures of the city via education, practical knowledge, advocacy work, and change making.

Harborcreek Youth Services is a trauma-informed behavioral healthcare agency that provides a wide range of residential and in-home services to children and their families from across Pennsylvania. This year, every dollar you donate to HYS through Erie Gives will go towards our Wellness on Wheels Program: a combination of learning, fun, and of course - riding bicycles and minibikes! The program has two major areas: A New Bike Repair Station and Workshop Area Earlier this year, we asked for bike donations, since many of our bikes had been stolen. The community responded in an overwhelming way, including the Sisters of St. Joseph, who offered us 10 repaired bikes from their own program. This led to a partnership where they are now sharing their knowledge with us on how to repair and maintain bikes - it’s a great learning experience for the kids and the results are fun for everyone! We would like to use Erie Gives funding to purchase a bike repair station and the tools necessary to make this into a proper program (complementing our Small Engine Repair and Work Experience Programs). Support for our NYPUM Program (National Youth Program Using Minibikes) HYS has had the pleasure to be involved with NYPUM for over 15 years and has taught over 760 kids. NYPUM, developed by American Honda Motor Company Inc., teaches at-risk youth to ride dirt bikes as an incentive for actively working on goals to improve their behaviors. This exciting program is designed to engage and promote positive youth development. The program begins in the classroom with lessons on parts of the bike, how to ride safely, and proper riding gear. After passing a written test, the participants are taught how to ride using a 21-step program. Once all lessons are complete, the kids are ready to enjoy going on a trail ride! At HYS, the boys earn every ride by achieving specific goals in their individual success plans. The plans are developed cooperatively by the youth participants, unit staff, and the NYPUM instructors. The success plan targets each child’s challenges by creating opportunities for success. Success plans focus on areas like academic performance, in-unit behavior, daily unit tasks, and treatment goals. We have enjoyed having NYPUM included in our wide array of programs and services here at HYS.This program helps to build self-esteem, promotes healthy relationships, and rewards kids for working on positive changes in their lives. As you can imagine, our program constantly needs new helmets, gloves, shirts, riding boots, pants, bike parts, tools - you name it! Your support on Erie Gives Day this year will help keep our kids on the trails and to continue to learn to ride safely here at HYS - THANK YOU! EP-437381

When Randy walked through the doors of the Erie City Mission seeking shelter, it was the last place he ever expected to find himself. “It was the first time in my life I was ever homeless and struggling to get my life together.” he recalls. “To be able to sleep on a bed, take a hot shower and be able to get something to eat, it was beautiful.” For Randy, it was in the place he least expected that his life was transformed.

The Lake Erie Arboretum at Frontier (LEAF) is a tree museum located in Erie’s beloved Frontier Park. Historically, LEAF has offered a wide range of educational programs, events, and art classes, while maintaining Frontier Park to be the beautiful, safe, and accessible green space that it is today. Over the past year, LEAF has launched a county-wide tree planting program aimed at improving outdoor spaces throughout our community. ReLeaf, LEAF’s strategic initiative that has enlisted hundreds of students, families and community volunteers, is working toward planting 275,000 trees - one tree for each citizen of Erie County. With your support of LEAF on Erie Gives Day, you will allow us to continue with our Open Markets, our traditional programs and cultural events, but most importantly, you will have a hand in improving the health of our planet by supporting this local green initiative. Your gift to us will last hundreds of years. Planting trees with ReLeaf will directly benefit the Erie community for future generations to come. We have already planted over 5,000 trees, and with your support, we can keep working toward our goal to make a lasting impact in Erie County for a healthy environment, community and planet. INNER-CITY NEIGHBORHOOD ART HOUSE “Hi! My name is James. I am 10 years old. I was born in Puerto Rico but have lived in the USA since 2011. My favorite subject is math, and my favorite sports are baseball and boxing. I speak Spanish and English. What I like most about myself is my hair and my eyes. I have been coming to the Art House since I was 7 years old. My favorite classes are machine sewing, jazz dance, and digital media. I like coming to the afterschool program best because it teaches you cool things, and it will help you with your career. I want people to know that kids do not have the money to take classes, and the Neighborhood Art House is free and provides a place for kids to come.”

Please help more kids like James!

Nearly 30% of Erie’s youth live in poverty and are unlikely to afford the opportunities the Art House provides at no cost. Founded in 1995 by the Benedictine Sisters of Erie, the Inner-City Neighborhood Art House provides classes in the visual, performing, and literary arts and environment to youth ages 7-18 living in Erie in a safe, nurturing, and caring environment. Research indicates students who participate in music, theatre, and/or dance achieve higher scores on standardized math tests, better scores in communications courses, and have higher graduation rates.

KaleidAScope, Inc. has been working with teens and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder since 2007. As the need for services for adults and teens has grown so have our services. Today KAS provides Individual, Family and Group programming for individuals on the Autism Spectrum, and related issues. Much of our programming involves group work to help develop and fine tune social skills. Children, teens, and adults with ASD all need guidance and the skill set to navigate the social landscape, whether at school, dating, seeking employment or just trying to make friends. KAS’s mission is to maximize the potential of individuals on the Spectrum, supporting each individual in embracing their unique talents, skills and abilities. Creating futures that are hopeful, vibrant, and satisfying is our goal. KaleidAScope is a provider for the Pennsylvania Adult Autism Waiver, as well as the Home and Community Based Service Waiver. At Community Health Net, we have fought hard alongside our community to beat back the pandemic’s scourge, see the light of day, and experience a measured sense of normalcy and freedom that we so richly deserve! But, we recognize that there is more work to be done. There is no better time than now to get the health of our community back on track! Yes, now more than ever, our communities need access to quality healthcare, such as medical, dental, vision, pharmacy, pediatric, and mental health services. So, we - the staff of CHN - want you to know that we have never left the boxing ring. Our gloves are still on as we continue to fight for the health and vitality of the place we call home. Our mission to improve our region’s quality of life by providing professional healthcare services with compassion, respect, and dignity to all is based on the firm belief that our community’s greatest asset is Y.O.U! That is why we take pride in our mission by providing equal access to our services regardless of insurance type, status, or ability to pay by offering sliding fee discounts relative to family size and income. If you believe that our services are critical to the community, why not give us your support? Help us ensure that Erie remains healthy and vibrant by giving on Erie Gives Day, Tuesday, August 10, 2021! Your donation will help impact the quality of life of every generation!

Maybe it’s a student who has exhausted their dining plan. Or one whose part-time job covers only their textbooks. Or one whose parents are unable to help them financially. Having enough money for sufficient food can be a struggle for nearly a quarter of all students at four-year colleges—including here in our community. Penn State Behrend is fighting food insecurity among its students with the Lion’s Pantry, an on-campus pantry stocked with food and hygiene products free for students in need. THE LION’S PANTRY SERVES STUDENTS … The Lion’s Pantry, which is located in Smith Chapel on the Behrend campus, operates year-round. Each week, students in need fill out an online order form with their requested food or hygiene items, and Lion’s Pantry staff fill the order and leave it on a shelf for pickup. The system allows students to maintain their anonymity and dignity, helping them avoid any sense of stigma that might otherwise prevent someone in need from seeking help.

EP-437350

... MORE THAN YOU CAN IMAGINE. Since opening in 2018, the Lion’s Pantry has filled more than 1,300 student orders. Monthly orders have reached nearly 90 at times. The most frequently requested items are pasta, soup, breakfast bars, and snacks. Other food items, including cereal, peanut butter and jelly, rice, and canned vegetables, are also available. The Lion’s Pantry also stocks items like shampoo, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, and period supplies—including sustainable period products. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lion’s Pantry assembled and distributed more than 100 care packages to students who were either in isolation or quarantine. YOU CAN HELP US HELP THEM! Your financial gift to the Lion’s Pantry through Erie Gives Day allows the food pantry to purchase the items needed most—those that will go the furthest to provide nutritious meals and essential personal care products to our students.

Please support Erie Bird Observatory for Erie Gives Day to help grow our organization. Together we can work towards a better future for birds, people and the natural world. Northwest Pennsylvania, especially the coastal zone of Lake Erie, supports hundreds of species of birds with its complex wetland and upland habitats. Spring and fall migrations bring through a diverse array of birds, from hummingbirds to eagles, many travelling hundreds or thousands of miles, some even moving between the southern tip of South America all the way to the high Arctic each year. Erie Bird Observatory was founded in 2018 with a mission to foster enthusiasm for birds and conservation through ornithological research and public engagement. Our focus is regional, but with the understanding that birds are world travelers connecting us to distant lands. We want to ensure that our region does its part to ensure the continued existence of all the bird species that enrich and enliven our corner of the world, and also to better understand them through research, educate about them and the habitats they depend on, and celebrate them by promoting birding as a recreational activity for all. annually and have been doing this work for over forty years. The clients we serve include veterans suffering from PTSD, the seriously mentally ill, individuals with substance abuse issues, families fleeing domestic violence and child abuse, and the poor and unemployed facing eviction or foreclosure. As a member of the HOME team, we partner with other service providers to plan and administer the community’s safety net for the homeless. We transform lives using a holistic approach to understanding and addressing behavioral health, housing and employment needs. We commit ourselves to helping those we serve achieve renewed lives of dignity and self-determination. 2020 was a difficult year for all of us. For Community Shelter Services, keeping clients safe, warm, housed, and fed each night while mitigating the spread of COVID has been especially challenging. those in our care and the community at large healthy. To do this, we needed to keep people sheltering-in-place longer. The pandemic compelled us to expand the length of stay much longer than we usually would. We also found a meaningful increase in women clients – a 12% rise from 2019. The isolation and frustrations of the pandemic brought about an unfortunate rise in domestic violence as well. In the past 12 months, CSS has provided 91,250 safe nights of sleep, given 89,672 meals, housed 65 families, and sheltered 198 children. Community Shelter Services’ ability to keep this vulnerable population safe is reflective of all the support we receive from you and others in our community. Your gift to CSS this Erie Gives Day ensures that we can continue to provide refuge and pathways to stability for those in need.

The mission of Saint Mary’s Home of Erie is alive! Saint Mary’s at Asbury Ridge and the Carriage Homes at Asbury Ridge now form the growing core of Saint Mary’s. As a non-profit with nearly 140 years of experience in providing excellent and compassionate care, Saint Mary’s continues to commit itself to Erie and to serving seniors by offering a dynamic response to their ever-changing needs. That commitment to serving seniors goes beyond simply providing healthcare services. The James E. Mantyla Benevolent Care Fund was established to help cover financial costs for qualified seniors in Residential Living who, through no fault of their own, can no longer afford the cost of their care. Many seniors face the upsetting reality that what they mindfully saved for retirement is not enough to sustain the years of care they need. Benevolent care offers vital financial support to seniors facing such hardships and helps ensure those seniors can continue to call Saint Mary’s their home. All Erie Gives Day donations will make a difference for seniors benefitting from benevolent care! Please consider sustaining our mission and supporting Saint Mary’s on Erie Gives Day! The Hagen History Center-Where History Inspires It’s a new day at the Hagen History Center.

When you donate to EUMA through Erie Gives, you are helping children and their families move from homeless to home – from hopeless to hope in a brighter tomorrow. At EUMA, we believe the only way to END homelessness is by giving people a HOME and making sure they have the tools and resources to stay permanently and stably housed. By donating to EUMA, you make HOME a reality for the majority of Erie County families with children who enter the homeless system. EUMA’s The Refuge exists to end immediate homelessness – providing critical emergency shelter, basic necessities, faithful support, and a commitment to ending homelessness – not merely addressing it. Last year, 67 families were sheltered at EUMA’s The Refuge. 7001% of those families moved into a permanent home of their own. With your help, 134 children – from newborns to 17-year-olds and Veteran-headed households found a home of their own! Please give today to help our neighbors facing homelessness. Thank you for responding! EUMA’s The Refuge operates primarily on your private donations - we depend on your support as work to keep homeless families with children safe. Please give to EUMA through Erie Gives and help end homelessness for families with children right here in NW PA! EP-437288

Over the past years, we’ve expanded, restored houses, and constructed new buildings. We now have 11 new exhibits in four buildings that will inspire both adults and children. In our new exhibit building, you can tour Frank Lloyd Wright’s original San Francisco office. You’ll also see his influence on local architectural, interactive exhibits that give you a taste of what our community was like in its early years. In the Wood-Morrison House, the Erie Extension Canal exhibit shares the history that took place right outside our doors here at 356 West Sixth Street. You’ll also recognize some of the names in our military gallery that provides personal stories of Erie men and women who served in the armed forces for more than 225 years. Children on field trips will come to learn and appreciate the sacrifices made. In the Watson-Curtze Mansion, you’ll discover awesome architecture and the stories behind both the families and the servants who lived here. Your donation to Erie Gives will also support a Virtual/Augmented Reality experience of sailing along with Oliver Hazard Perry during the Battle of Lake Erie! That’s just a sampling of what we have at the Hagen History Centerwhere history inspires every day. Visit our website www.eriehistory.org or call 814-454-1813 x 34. EP-437208

The Mercy Center for Women has served over 3,500 women and children in the Erie Community for 27 years. Our next step in growing our mission is to implement permanent housing at the former Holy Rosary School building. This will assist families on their journey toward self-sufficiency while they reclaim their lives from homelessness, addiction, and/or domestic violence. Homelessness is a continuing challenge; women and children make up one of the most vulnerable populations in our community. As our campus expands, there will be 13 two-bedroom furnished apartments along with several amenities for residents and the neighborhood. These will include Dress for Success Erie, a food pantry, community center, access to counseling, and more. Thank you in advance for making a difference through Erie Gives - you touch the lives of those we serve. EP-435910

The Children’s Museum has a record of serving Erie and surrounding communities through its engaging exhibits and highly interactive hands-on learning 25 years and counting.

the Children’s Museum remains devoted to its mission to provide educational and empowering content for children and families. With the pause in operations, the museum was able to assess those who makes up the Erie community and shine a spotlight on different families and their cultures with the “expERIEnce my Home” series.

Since opening in 1995, the Children’s Museum has grown into a significant community asset annually receiving 64,000 visits and reaching 12,000 children and families through the Mobile Museum with focus on underserved communities.

Please consider a donation to the Children’s Museum during Erie Gives 2021 and help the Children’s Museum achieve its mission to provide a familycentered and inclusive learning experiences where children, families, and their schools come together to create, imagine, and explore!

On the road to recovery from the global pandemic,

Donations made during Erie Gives 2021 will provide materials and resources for our education staff to extend our STEAM programming, including the expansion of the “expERIEnce my Home” series. Supporting the Children’s Museum through Erie Gives this year is supporting people like Gyan, who showcased the traditions of the Tamang people, through the “expERIEnce my Home” series. In his words, “If we get the chance to do it again, there are so many things to show! I’d share the wedding ceremonies and baby ceremonies. There are so many things our culture has to that can inspire others.”

The American Heart Association is a relentless force for a world of longer healthier lives. For nearly 100 years, the AHA has been fighting heart disease and stroke and helping families and communities thrive. Through collaboration with numerous organizations, and powered by millions of volunteers, we fund innovative research, advocate for the public’s health, and share lifesaving resources. Additionally, we aim to inspire healthier communities across the country by inviting everyone to LIVE FIERCE for better wellbeing and health. In these uncharted times, we have discovered wonders within ourselves, our community, and the science. When we live fierce together, we are resilient, relentless, and unstoppable. The AHA is leading breakthroughs in science and technology, transforming health care, changing policy, and transforming communities all to protect the hearts of those we love and care about. As champions for health equity, by 2024, the American Heart Association will advance cardiovascular health for all because every person in Erie deserves the opportunity for a full, healthy life. For years we’ve been striving to ensure everyone has an optimal, just opportunity to be healthy. But this is not the reality for many people of color and others whose health suffers because of social factors beyond their control. In fact, people in some under-resourced ZIP codes have shorter life expectancies than their neighbors just a few miles away. And people in oftenremote rural areas face significantly higher death rates from heart disease and stroke. COVID-19 has illuminated these unacceptable health disparities and worsened the problems. The pandemic and economic hardships have disproportionately harmed the health of many people. That’s why our 2024 Impact Goal affirms our focus on identifying and removing barriers to health equity. The American Heart Association wants to help you build science-backed healthy habits so you can thrive - even in these stressful times. Join us as we live fierce and build a healthier Erie. HOPE Rescue is a non-profit that specializes in owner surrenders, medical cases, senior dogs, strays, and abuse & neglect cases. Even though we are one of the smaller rescues in Erie/Crawford County, we do so much for the community! When there is a stray or fearful dog, we are there to help capture and take them in. When a litter of parvo pups was dumped at a vet’s office by a breeder who didn’t want to pay for treatment, we were there to take them in. When a dog became to be too old and no longer convenient, we were there to take them in. We don’t just rescue puppies or cute dogs that will easily be adopted. We take in the ones no one

else wants to invest in. For example, when we receive a senior dog they generally require a lot of vetting and rehabbing. Once they are healthy and ready for adoption, we put them in our Senior to Senior program where a senior citizen can adopt them for free! By joining forces with our sister rescue, Canine Partners Program, we are able to help the misunderstood dogs as well. Through positive reinforcement training, these once challenging dogs are able to be well-rounded family members! Some of you may recall Taz, the dog who was hit by a car and attacked by coyotes. He’s one of our rescues and is still recovering and receiving around

the clock medical care. His surgeries and follow-up appointments have cost nearly $20,000 and will continue when rehab begins. Without your support we couldn’t have provided the medical care he needed. As they say, it takes a village. Our mission is simple: Help - animals in need Heal - both physically and emotionally through medical care, positive reinforcement training, and love Happy Tails - adopting our animals to homes that fit their needs and that will help them thrive Please consider donating to HOPE Rescue today!

The face of today’s homeless female has evolved. She could be serving you in the drive-thru line; she might be wearing makeup or driving a car; she might be 8-months pregnant or looking stereotypically unkempt. What hasn’t changed is her reason for being homeless: fleeing an abusive relationship; economic hardship; poor mental health; addiction

For 31 years, Hooked on Books for Kids has been distributing brand new, high quality books to underprivileged children and youth in Erie County who otherwise would not have books of their own. We distribute these through schools, churches, social service agencies, and other non-profits such as the Erie City and County schools, Erie Dawn, the House of Mercy, YMCAs, food pantries, Boys and Girls Club, and our own Books for Birthdays program. You can help us continue these efforts by supporting us on Erie Gives Day.

In addition to distributing books, we encourage literacy, life-long learning, and the love of reading by motivating parents to read to their children and by modeling in-home reading at Edison and Lincoln schools, and other venues, because in-home reading is the key to success in school and life.

Hope on Horseback

$"'#%!&(#

At Hope on Horseback, progress is sometimes measured by one word spoken. In some cases, a smile is the reward we get. But sometimes at Hope on Horseback we see a life changed by a program that leaves no one behind. Children who have lived on the sidelines, watching others play, can be in the center of the action. Adults who have been challenged by cancer or abused mentally or physically are able to rebuild confidence and self-esteem through successful interaction with our therapy herd, instructors and volunteers. Amazing things happen at Hope on Horseback, and your support makes it possible. Founded in 1981 as an equine-assisted therapeutic program for children and adults with physical or cognitive challenges…40 years later…Hope on Horseback still serves these special individuals and their families, but many new directions have been added. Reaching out to additional populations in recent years, Hope on Horseback now offers horseback riding classes and equine-assisted learning programs for those who not only have physical or developmental issues, but those who are dealing with challenges in many areas of daily life. Working with the Crime Victims Center of Erie, equine programs have been designed to help victims of crime and trauma regain self-esteem, confidence and assertiveness. Gannon University and the Barber Institute have combined resources with HOHB to develop two college level courses teaching the utilization of equine-assisted alternative teaching methods. HOHB programs and classes are carefully designed to be safe and effective by our nationally certified Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH) staff of instructors. Consistent standards of operation and performance are monitored and enhanced by active membership in the PATH organization. Volunteer Program Volunteers are the heart of our program at Hope on Horseback. Evening and daytime volunteer opportunities are available. Applicants must be at least 14 years old. No horse care or riding experience is necessary! We provide an extensive program of training and development for volunteers who want to learn and experience more. What Your Help Provides The acquisition and care of our horses is our primary budget item. We keep a well-trained and sound selection of horses to provide for all the different needs of our clients. Fitting the rider to the horse requires experience and a knowledge of the needs of both. One size definitely does not fit all. Equipment, on-going staff and volunteer training and insurance must be added to the mix of needs. Your donation to Erie Gives makes you part of our team. You can take pleasure in knowing that your help put a smile of the face of someone who deserves a helping hand! Website: hopehorseback.org

Nearly one million Americans are living with Parkinson’s disease (PD). Annually 60,000 Americans, including many here in Erie, are diagnosed with PD, the second most common neurological disorder behind Alzheimer’s.

EP-437235

Parkinson Partners of Northwestern Pennsylvania, Erie’s only nonprofit dedicated to PD, is focused on its mission to encourage, educate and support those with PD and their families as they cope with the challenges of the disease. Your thoughtful gift to Parkinson Partners helps provide resources including support groups, educational events, respite care and transportation grants and community wellness exercise and dance programs.

Our Respite Care Program provides grants for home health care aides to come to a person’s home allowing care partners “time off” to address their own needs while an aide tends to the needs of their loved one with PD. Debbie Fleming, whose spouse Don had PD said, “The PPNWPA respite program has been a blessing. I have used it every year and it has provided much needed hours to enjoy a lunch with friends, a trip to the zoo with grandchildren and necessities like doctor’s appointments. Home health services are expensive and this program is greatly appreciated.” Our exercise and dance programs are specifically geared towards the needs of those with PD, addressing their challenges while encouraging

their independence in a safe, supportive environment. Wellness participant Howard explains, “I tend to do better in a structured environment as compared to exercising on my own. The class also pushes us to go beyond what our minds tell us we can and cannot do, which is encouraging.” We are grateful for the opportunity to have served the PD community for 29 years. The SSJ Neighborhood Network’s staff members and volunteers are dedicated to social service and the revitalization of some of Erie’s neediest neighborhoods and residents across the heart of the City, including the historic Little Italy neighborhood as well as the East-side Multicultural Community. These wonderfully diverse areas include over 50% of the minorities and resettled refugees living in the City of Erie, with 14 languages spoken.

Northwestern Legal Services (NWLS) provides FREE legal services to low-income clients in civil cases. We serve the Pennsylvania counties of Erie, Bradford, Cameron, Crawford, Elk, Forest, McKean, Mercer, Venango & Warren. Like everyone else during this pandemic, we have had to figure out ways to continue providing quality legal services while keeping our staff and clients safe.

SSJ Neighborhood Network ministries include individualized and small group youth programs such as tutoring, art, career awareness curriculum and summer youth work readiness programs and the Pedal Mettle (earn-abike program). Urgent need programs include a weekly soup kitchen, food pantry, case management and referral for over 1,000 individuals each year. Increased access to healthy foods is provided through a network of five community gardens and a weekly, seasonal farmers market that accepts SNAP, WIC and Senior produce vouchers. Physical revitalization efforts include neighborhood clean-up and blight removal, public art, murals, security cameras, new sidewalks and façade improvements. The Genesis housing program provides affordable housing, education and escrowed savings to enable first time home owners.

We have invested in tech that allows our clients to utilize text messaging to provide us with the important paperwork necessary to work on their cases. We have also been able to safely provide clients access to attend hearings virtually. As a result of being able to adapt this past fiscal year, we have opened more than 3,085 cases and closed approximately 2,998 cases; 257 of which are Covid-related. NWLS’ attorneys & paralegals are still helping people secure unemployment and public benefits, and other income needed to get by. And when the moratoriums on evictions & public utilities end, we will be here helping to keep people from losing their homes & having their utilities shut off. Because we are in the helping business.

“Revitalizing a neighborhood, empowering its people” – the SSJ Neighborhood Network responds to the changing needs of the world by partnering with local residents and the broader community to provide growth and neighborhood revitalization.

It has been a complicated year, with many twists, turns, and pivots, but one thing has remained constant: WQLN has been there every step of the way. We brought you the Erie Philharmonic concerts when stages went dark. We brought Erie’s Blues and Jazz Festival to your TV screen when the plug was nearly pulled on the event. We provided literacy programs to children and teachers in our community classrooms. WQLN PBS Homeroom even provided televised lessons from local teachers when families were challenged with staying safe at home and helping children learn remotely. And as always, every day we bring you endless hours of entertainment and news programming on both radio and TV. WQLN knows information is powerful, especially in a time of crisis. That’s why we redirected our limited resources to help connect our community with the information needed during this Covid-19 pandemic. For more than a year, WQLN has worked with government officials, health experts, and all local media to make sure you have updates on the novel coronavirus.

These efforts combined make it easy to see why WQLN was awarded Nonprofit of the Year during the Commitment to Erie Business Awards in 2020. However, it’s important to realize that WQLN PBS NPR has always been a staple in this community – an organization you can always count on. For more than 50 years, WQLN PBS NPR has been bringing learning to life for the Lake Erie region. WQLN is your passport to a larger world of discovery, exploration, lifelong learning, and an ongoing respectful exchange of ideas. WQLN PBS is home to safe, educational children’s programming, followed by balanced, and objective, news coverage, and high-quality history, arts, and science-based primetime programming. WQLN’s three other channels, Create, World, and the new 24/7 Kids channels, allow viewers to watch commercialfree television programming anytime during the day or night. WQLN NPR is the region’s source for daily unbiased news, classics, jazz, roots, and comedy. 91.3FM

airs more original, locally produced hours of programming than any other Erie radio station. Additionally, WQLN brings world-renowned and extraordinary local talent to you through live performances both in person and over the air. WQLN offers community engagement opportunities and educational enrichment through powerful outreach efforts. Family literacy workshops, Wash and Learn libraries, reading nooks, public forums, Our Town documentaries, community events, road trips, and live music performances demonstrate WQLN’s commitment to keeping you informed, entertained, and safe. Your gift to WQLN on Erie Gives Day brings learning to life for everyone in our community. Please consider choosing WQLN on Tuesday, August 10th, a day where anyone can be a philanthropist. YADO’s PRELUDE STRINGS Seminar at W. Wilson Middle School

“A Symphony of Color!” YADO Rehearsal Spring 2021 Concert

During a Seminar at W. Wilson Middle School, we asked a PRELUDE STRINGS cello student,… “How do you think that music has changed you?” The student replied, “Well, I used to be very very shy. I would keep to myself and wouldn’t talk to anyone. When you play an instrument and you have a teacher, you have to talk, and if you can’t talk you can’t play.” We then said, “Music is a Universal language. So, how about at school, how have the music lessons affected you at school?” The student explained, “When I was in first, second and third grade, my grades were really bad, like F’s and D’s and C’s. When I entered fourth grade that’s when I started playing violin. By sixth grade I started playing the cello. I got moved into the honors class and my memory improved. In seventh grade I got a really high GPA, a 4.3!” The goal of the Young Artists Debut Orchestra’s (YADO) PRELUDE STRINGS program is to provide underserved children in our community with the life transformational music educational tools necessary to break out of deprivation and the poverty cycle. We greatly appreciate the support of our generous donors, grantors, sponsors, and stakeholders! Your support makes a direct difference in the lives of our young musicians and the community audiences we reach through our performances. The YADO also accepts and appreciates donations of gently used stringed instruments. The Young Artists Debut Orchestra strives to transform lives by providing the highest level of classical music education and performance opportunities for students, ages 6-21, regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, economic background, gender, or disability, and to make the program accessible to underserved school students through financial assistance and outreach. The Young Artists Debut Orchestra (YADO) provides the following: • The opportunity for students to engage in a comprehensive classical music program with the highest standards, that substantially supplements their school music activities. • Quality stringed instruments which are loaned to students who cannot afford their own. • 4 annual live public performances and live public recital opportunities. • Side-by-side mentoring and coaching by professional musicians during rehearsals and performances. • A Music Director/Conductor with International credentials. • An annual Music Educational Field Trip to hear the Cleveland Orchestra. • A Summer Music Academy with a Finale Concert. The YADO programs function synergistically to create an artistic environment that provides multi-dimensional educational development for all our students. Erie Gives’ impact on our community, and on the Foundation for Free Enterprise Education is immeasurable. For us, Erie Gives is unquestionably our most important fundraising day of the year. Because of our loyal and generous donors, we’ve raised over $1.85 million dollars which has educated thousands of students through our three programs, Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week (PFEW), The Stock Market Game and Speaker Series. These three programs provide world class economic education that prepares our youth for success. Additionally, thanks to the overwhelming generosity of the Erie Community Foundation and many Erie-area sponsoring companies, we’ve received over $95,000 in prorated matching funds, 100% of which has remained right here at home to sponsor Erie County students to attend PFEW.

A sense of community and commitment describes the men and women who built our church in 1959. We are continuing this commitment as we invest in the future by “Raising the Roof”. The replacement of our original copper roof, restoration to our iconic bell tower, and total refurbishing of our beautiful stained-glass windows will ensure a place of worship for future generations. Your gifts on Erie Gives Day will go directly to this historical project.

May God Bless you for your generosity.

The Upper Room of Erie, Inc. was established in 1995 when a homeless man, shivering, wet, and without food was taken in thanks to the efforts of our founder Tom Schlaudecker. Shortly thereafter, St. Paul’s United Church of Christ entered into a

financial agreement with The Upper Room to continue its mission. In 2014 Dr. Cris Taylor took the role of Director and twenty-five years later, The Upper Room pays a portion of the church’s expenses and occupies the entire second floor

of St. Paul’s on the corner of 11th and Peach. The Upper Room is a tax-exempt 501c-3 organization serving the poor and homeless of the Erie area.

The Upper Room does not receive federal or state monies, except for a yearly health and hygiene grant from Erie County, and generosity of ECGRA. The organization is dependent on the generosity of individuals, clubs, and corporate donors. YOUR help on Erie Gives Day, Tuesday, August 10th is so important for our continued service to Erie’s homeless – online from 8am to 8pm. www. eriegives.org Things have changed over those years too. The Upper Room accommodates more than 40,000 visitors every year and serves more than 70,000 cups of coffee each year. Referrals, events, and cooperation with others comprise our Mission. The Upper Room holds Erie’s largest blanket drive every year on the Saturday before Thanksgiving on the stage at Perry Square, well known as “Blizzard of Blankets”. In 2019 the Upper Room

collected more than 3000 blankets, along with winter coats. School districts, local universities, Hamot Hospital nurses, and more than 30 volunteers make this day possible. Every Weekday hot breakfast is served at our facility, thanks to our work with St. Martin’s Center. Every Sunday hot dinner is served thanks to help from other church groups. These meals see as many as 200 attend. The Upper Room works with local stores to provide daily fruits and snacks for those who are in need. And that is not all. The Upper Room holds a Christmas Party every year and thanks to some of our generous sponsors, all who come receive a gift. In 2019, more than 220 attended. The Upper Room takes more than 60 homeless from our city to Presque Isle for a BBQ and day at the beach each year. Our Memorial Day picnic serves more than 200

each year also. Chess tournaments, valentine craft parties, and other events keep our staff and volunteers busy. We have no big salaries, or high paid staff. We only pay our staff basic expenses and love our volunteers. The Upper Room gives out over 3000 pairs of new socks each year, and more than 250 winter coats, We provide winter boots for those in need, sweatshirts, shirts and pants, and hygiene items like shampoo and deodorant, women’s personal items, men’s and women’s under garments, and numerous items every year. The Upper Room partners with The Mental Health Association and stays open late on cold winter nights. The Upper Room serves both men and women; ALL are welcome regardless of race, creed, ethnicity, orientation, or belief. We call our facility an“OASIS” for the homeless.

We have secure lockers where our guests can store their items; more than 100 of our clients receive their Postal mail with us too. This means

we serve as a legal address for those who otherwise do not have one. Our Mission is to provide a safe and welcoming

place for Erie’s homeless year around. Our staff and volunteers offer fellowship however they can in an atmosphere of hospitality and fellowship.

Please consider the Upper Room of Erie with your generous giving plans this year on Erie Gives Day, Tuesday, August 10th. We promise your gift will make a real and lasting difference.

The Consumer/Family Satisfaction Team surveys persons about their satisfaction or dissatisfaction with mental health and/or drug & alcohol services with local organizations. • The Peer Support Program is comprised of Certified Peer Specialists who assist peers with developing and attaining goals on their recovery journey. The Peer Navigators at Blasco Memorial Library assist library patrons in need of resources. • The External Advocate at Warren State Hospital provides advocacy services to all patients and the Warming Center provides a safe and warm place for persons who are in need of shelter during the winter nights. However, the Warming Center was not open this past winter due to the challenges with the COVID Pandemic. Instead, along with several local churches, MHA partnered with Our Neighbor’s Place (ONP) to offer shelter to those in need on any given winter night. MHA was able to provide a safe and welcoming space for the ONP guests for 10 weeks during this past winter. Plans for the upcoming winter season will depend upon the ongoing impact of the COVID Pandemic. EP-437064

$3 Million “We Believe in Erie Fund” Launched Raised by a single mom, Avery Stevens was the first in her family to attend college and begin her nursing career. “Without the support of scholarships, I would not be where I am today,” said Stevens, who is a rising Junior at Gannon University. “The new We Believe in Erie Fund will help even more students like me who want to earn an education and land a well-paying job in order to stay in Erie and raise our families.” Erie Vital Signs, which is a project of The Erie Community Foundation, tracks the trajectory of students like Avery. Without an education, earning a family-sustaining job is difficult and sometimes unsurmountable. Without a career, a complex cycle of generational poverty is hard to break. To reverse these trends, the Greater Erie Economic Development Corporation (GEEDC) and The Erie Community Foundation proudly established the “We Believe in Erie” Fund. Each nonprofit committed $1 million to the fund and are raising the third million with a generous challenge grant. The two nonprofits joined forces to inspire hope in the Erie community and bridge the gaps of economic and racial divides.

“Without question, the We Believe in Erie Fund has the potential to significantly impact the lives of ethnic minorities and women throughout Erie County for generations to come!” said GEEDC CEO Gerald Blanks. “The very idea of having the opportunity to become gainfully employed by virtue of family-sustaining employment is no longer a dream, but a true reality.” After the announcement of the jointly established fund, local businessman and philanthropist, Thomas B. Hagen, created a $350,000 challenge fund to encourage additional gifts to the “We Believe in Erie Fund.” “Between now and October 1, gifts of any size, up to $350,000, will be matched thanks to the generosity of Tom Hagen,” said Foundation Interim President Susannah Weis Frigon. Gifts can be made to the fund on Erie Gives, Tuesday, August 10. Once the $3M mark is reached, the new fund will permanently provide $120K to $150K in education scholarships and apprenticeships each year to minority students. Students who are between the ages of 18 and 25, who want a better life trajectory and who commit to living in Erie will be eligible. “One of our

goals has always been to create pathways to success,” added Weis Frigon. “We also support local business efforts to strengthen and diversify their workforce. Our partnership with GEEDC will help local students access higher education and local opportunities for good paying jobs.” “This Fund will help ensure that no one is left behind while meeting the needs of Erie’s high demand jobs of the future,” said James Grunke, President/CEO of The Erie Regional Chamber and Growth Partnership. The Erie Regional Chamber and Growth Partnership conducted a competitive workforce analysis and offered pathways to help Erie companies benefit from students who are seeking internships and apprenticeships. “The permanent endowment will provide opportunities for students to stay in Erie which impacts generations of families,” Grunke said. At the Sight Center of NW PA, we envision a world where preventable vision loss is a distant memory because, through our preschool screening programs, we catch potential problems before they become permanent. Thanks to you, more than 8,000 pre-school children receive free vision screenings before they enter kindergarten. We envision a world where children and teens with congenital or other unavoidable visual impairments live in parity with their sighted peers. The Georgiana Foundation was founded with a simple, yet critical, mission. To help children overcome the fundamental obstacles to learning. Our mission was inspired by Georgiana Fust Patterson, an Erie native who spent her life loving her community and the people who make it such a remarkable place. As a young woman, she studied and became a teacher, loving to share her enthusiasm for life and learning with the students she taught. Throughout her life, though she was no longer in a classroom, she continued to teach and to learn.

Thanks to you, blind or severely visually impaired youth attend Sports Camps with their siblings and friends and grow their own vegetables! Imagine if we were able to prevent the leading cause of blindness in our country today! Thanks to you, people learn the connection between Type2 diabetes and vision loss. They know what steps to take to protect their health and vision because they have the guidance of Sight Center diabetes prevention experts.

At the Georgiana Foundation we believe that if a child is hungry, they cannot learn. If a child is cold or tired, they cannot learn. If a child is denied the funds they need for tuition or books, they cannot learn. Over the past several years, we have worked with individuals and groups throughout our community to provide a unique resource to help meet these basic, yet fundamental, needs.

Right now, seniors who are blind or visually impaired are coming out of their COVID isolation. Thanks to you, older blind adults receive the services they need to stay in their homes independently and focus on wellness and participation in family and community activities.

In the rescue industry, our call to action never ceases. Even at the height of Covid-19, the Erie Humane Society has been working hard to serve the needy pets in our community. Our organization was impacted, tremendously, as we were forced to cancel adoption events, fundraisers, and other donor support programs. However, our mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome has remained strong; we have weathered the storm. Yet, as Covid-19 restrictions begin to ease, and we are eagerly trying to regain momentum, we still are presented with heartbreaking cases. In May of 2021, our organization embarked on a tragic hoarding case right here in Erie, PA. Our Humane Officers received a call to a home where 46 pets were seized from an animal hoarding case with pets living in horrendously unsanitary conditions.

These are some ways that your generosity on Erie Gives Day help us serve our mission to prevent blindness and promote independence for those who are losing their vision and those who are blind.

Many pets were living in filthy, small crates, greatly limiting their mobility, and ultimately causing deformities to their legs. Many had severe skin conditions, while others were malnourished and scared. One of the pets that was rescued, shares why she is asking for your support this Erie Gives Day: “My name is Coco and I am a pint-sized 6-year-old chihuahua. I was living in a dirty cage with my best friend, Stella. It was dark and smelled bad, there wasn’t a bed, and we didn’t leave our cage. There wasn’t much room to move around, which has caused some issues with my back legs, so I can’t walk or run like most dogs do. When we arrived at the shelter, Stella and I saw our new living space, and we couldn’t believe it!

Waiting for us were two soft beds, tons of warm blankets, clean water and food, and these things the staff called toys. We could finally stretch our legs! The staff stopped in frequently to give us love. They kept telling us we were safe now, and do you know what? We knew they were right. We are still on our road to recovery and are enjoying our time with our foster family. Please support the Erie Humane Society on Erie Gives Day so they can keep saving the lives of pets like me and Stella!” As the Erie Humane Society works to rebuild after the pandemic, we want to ensure each of these pets receive the very best. Help us make 2021 THEIR year, by providing these pets with the best care and opportunities to find amazing homes.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. The League of Women Voters is a peoples’ organization that has fought at the federal, state, and local level since 1920 to improve our government. We never endorse or oppose political parties or candidates, but work to engage Americans in the decisions that impact their lives through broad educational efforts as well as advocacy.

The League is different from many organizations because we are truly volunteer-driven. From our legislative luncheons, school education programs, and suffragette walks to our presence at naturalization ceremonies to welcome new citizens, we are a grassroots organization providing every member with opportunities to engage in our democracy. We believe that we need everyone to participate in order for our community to be strong, safe and vibrant. The mission of Erie Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community. All training and competition opportunities are provided free of charge to the athletes and their families, enabling everyone to experience the benefits of Special Olympics that extend well beyond the playing field. Special Olympics also helps to address major challenges facing its athletes: obesity, healthcare and employment. The Erie Special Olympics experience fills a critical need in the lives of people with intellectual disabilities by providing opportunities for physical activity, social interaction, and the demonstration of competence to themselves, their families and the community. Athletes learn developmental and life skills as the benefits of participation translate beyond sports, helping them to live more independent and rewarding lives. Special Olympics also provides a positive venue for families, volunteers, and donors to become part of a caring community, and to become involved in the movement.

Northern Pennsylvania Regional College When we consider the importance of affordable education, whether for manufacturing and technical positions or for early childhood education and social sciences, what many people are seeking is much the same. Students, whether just out of high school, returning to the workforce, laid off from previous jobs, or seeking to improve their current position, are looking for affordable, accessible, and achievable education. Northern Pennsylvania Regional College (NPRC) was officially established as a public institution of higher education in May of 2017 to provide affordable and accessible post-secondary education to the residents of northern Pennsylvania. Prior to 2017, previously known as the Educational Consortium of the Upper Allegheny (ECUA) and the Rural Regional College of Northern Pennsylvania (RRC), NPRC operated with higher education partners to provide accredited coursework and establish evidence that identified a need for higher education within our region. Feasibility studies were completed in 2011 and 2013 that provided additional evidence that a need existed, not only for affordable, accessible technical and associate degree programs in northwestern Pennsylvania, but also that this programming is critical to the region’s economic recovery. Since NPRC’s establishment in 2017, two associate degrees have been added to its offerings, as well as additional certificates, occupation-based credentials, and workforce development training. NPRC’s model delivers flexible, career-focused curricula and high-quality class instruction at multiple sites throughout nine counties - Cameron, Crawford, Elk, Erie, Forest, McKean, Potter, Venango, and Warren - using live, interactive technology and creating meaningful face-to-face classroom experiences. This model connects students at multiple sites into one class section taught by one of NPRC’s faculty members. The global Coronavirus pandemic caused NPRC to pivot from this model and offer completely remote coursework. Due to the existing infrastructure of course delivery, adapting to this new method of offering classes was performed with limited disruption in operations. After nearly 18 months, in-person courses will pick back up in Fall 2021, with classes being available for Erie residents at the Corry Higher Education Council and NPRC’s new Education and Training Center in Erie on West Ridge Road. Industrial Maintenance Technology lab courses and CDA prep courses are already being offered at this location. Although NPRC focuses on keeping courses affordable, many students still find it difficult to participate in post-secondary education. Funds raised through our participation in Erie Gives may be used in multiple ways to support our mission of affordability and accessibility for our students. We seek to provide students with opportunity through full or partial scholarships to enroll in our college, technology purchases for accessibility like laptops and hotspot rentals, and expansion of our locations and lab spaces. Northern Pennsylvania Regional College is approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education to grant degrees and certificates in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and is proudly pursuing accreditation. Throughout the accreditation process, NPRC continues to expand its course offerings to develop stackable credentials, allowing students to progress through career pathways in various progressive program opportunities to create greater opportunities that will help retain and attract residents to our region. NPRC’s associate degrees include Applied Technology; Business Administration; Criminal Justice; Early Childhood Education; Liberal Studies; and Social Sciences. Certificates include General Studies and Industrial Maintenance Technology. Occupation-based credentials include Industrial Maintenance Technology Skillset; Advanced Industrial Maintenance Technology Skillset; Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential; and School-Age Professional Credential (SAPC) Preparation courses. Workforce development training includes Emergency Medical Services; Precision Machining; Industrial Maintenance; Powder Metal; Tourism; Hospitality Management; Supervision and Leadership; Waste Water Treatment; Human Services; and Fire Safety. We will also customize training programs to meet the needs of our employers. More information about NPRC and its offerings can be found at https://regionalcollegepa.org/.
