PROUD TO BE CURVY This week, plus size model and icon Ashley Graham began a daily segment on Good Morning America called ‘Body Proud’, in which she focuses on encouraging women to embrace their bodies and celebrate themselves in a positive light. On Monday’s episode, she featured young girls with their mothers, asking each what they thought of their bodies. The segment ended with a lovely moment between Graham and her mother where we see just how supportive her mom has been over the years and where Graham gets her positive and proud outlook on health and beauty. You make us proud, Ashley!
Ashely Nell Tipton won Season 14 of Project Runway and we couldn’t be more thrilled! As the first designer to win the competition who specializes in plus size clothing, Tipton brought her eye for bright colours, playful textiles and modern silhouettes to the runway and the judges fell in love. After winning multiple challenges, Tipton took home the gold with her plus size models walking in Bryant Park wearing her 1950s Mexico City-inspired collection. Although she’s been on the radar of plus size divas like Tess Holliday for some time now, this national and mainstream exposure is great for our community and the career of an unquestionably talented young woman. An in-depth StyleLikeU video series, The What’s Underneath Project, with Elly Mayday was released last month in which she talked about her battle with stage three ovarian cancer. Mayday started her modeling career in pin-up and discusses her relationship with her parents, fans and critics, as well as her own body throughout this process. The video interview itself is incredibly well done, showing the 27-year-old progressively removing her outfit and makeup, finishing up with Mayday in her bra and underwear proudly displaying her scar. She’s truly an inspiration.
