The David Eccles School of Business MSIS program is designed to provide advanced IT training for individuals seeking the skills necessary to manage the technology of business. Companies in the private and public sectors need information systems (IS) execu‐ tives, analysts and specialists with business and technology knowledge to align information technology with business strategies. Our information systems curricu‐ lum is designed to offer courses that integrate technology into business processes. The Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS) program at the David Eccles School of Business offers students advanced graduate specializations in either a Data Management or IT Security track. Each track offers University of Utah stu‐ dents a unique competitive advantage that will prepare them for high‐level leader‐ ship positions in major corporations. No other school in Utah has more comprehen‐ sive offerings in IS security and data management.

Full‐Time ‐ The MSIS program can be taken in a full‐time format which takes on average three semesters to complete. Well‐prepared students can complete the program in as little as two semesters.

Part‐time ‐ The MSIS program can also be taken in a part‐time format to meet the needs of working students. The part‐time program takes an average of five to six semesters to complete. Master of Science Requirement: MSIS students must complete a capstone project for graduation. A Masters thesis is not required. Class Availability: IS core classes and electives are offered both during the day and evening to accommodate the diverse schedule needs of our students. Once admit‐ ted, we recommend sitting down with one of our MSIS academic advisors to map out a course of study that will match your needs with the class schedule.

Bachelor’s degree and Undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 GMAT required (GRE considered on a case‐by‐case basis with attention given to percentile rankings) Work Experience—The admissions committee strongly encourages candidates to have two years of full‐time IT work experience. Although work experience is not required, applicants with work experience will receive stronger consideration.

The MSIS requirement for IS6420 (Database Theory & Design) and IS6430 (Systems Analysis & Design) may be fulfilled by a grade of B+ or better in an approved equivalent undergraduate course. Students must take other approved MSIS courses as substitutes for these two courses. Substitute courses may come from one of the other approved MSIS tracks, electives, or Ph.D. courses. Students must still take a total of 30 credit hours.

Deadlines: Spring Semester 2011: November 15, 2010 Fall Semester 2011 Priority: March 1, 2011 Fall Semester 2011 Secondary: April 1, 2011 Two applications plus official GMAT or GRE scores are required: 1. University of Utah Graduate Application (www.sa.utah.edu/admiss/) This application should be submitted 4 to 6 weeks before deadlines. 2. David Eccles School of Business program application (www.business.utah.edu/masters) Includes references, essays and scholarship / assistantship application. Please note that historically, a majority of merit‐based scholarships are awarded to applicants meeting the priority deadline.

MSIS Prerequisites Writing 2010—Intermediate Writing Quantitative Skills ‐ MSIS students are expected to have quantitative profi‐ ciencies in algebra and statistics upon entering the program. The MSIS Program Director may ask accepted applicants to complete additional quan‐ titative prerequisites as part of their acceptance. This will be expressed to the applicants at the time of acceptance.

Tuition & Fees Estimated tuition and fees for the MSIS Program are as follows: Full‐Time / 3 Semesters Resident $19,500 Non‐Resident $37,400 Part‐Time / 5 Semesters Resident $25,300 Non‐Resident $42,100 These estimates reflect 30 total credit hours taken over the course of 3 or 5 semesters at the current tuition rates (spring or fall 2011). Please note that this is an estimate and tuition rates may increase without notice over the next academic year. Merit‐based scholarships / Graduate Assistantships are available to MSIS students. Students seeking scholarships are encouraged to get application materials submitted as early as possible. Financial aid in the form of loans is available to all graduate students.
