How to read this guide I sat down to compile Current's 2012 Summer Camp Guide brimming with my own fond camp memories. My parents sent me to a rather eclectic selection: Respect for Law Camp, where we learned about law enforcement and did push-ups; church camp, where I learned to rock climb and did push-ups; LEGO Robotics camp, where we constructd elaborate animatronic scenes of legos and laughed at all the push-ups the other campers around us were doing. After several hours, and depleting all nearby sources of caffeine, I realized that, despite the size of my own selection of camps as a kid, today's prospective campers' options have bloomed exponentially. And so, what you have in your hands is an appetizer, of sorts – a taste of what's available, and a guide of where to look for more. Each listing will be followed by a site offering more information and a plethora of other camps to choose from. Our complete listing of camps will also be available online at www.youarecurrent.com and through each of our community newspapers' Web sites. Summer in a Boy Scout's life By Robert Herrington From a first year Scout fresh from Webelos to an 18-year-old Eagle Scout, when I was younger, summers revolved around Boy Scout Camp. I can remember the jitters of being a first time camper – getting lost on trails, living off the candy at the trading post since the camp food was inedible and the eventual bout of home sickness. But as I matured and grew older, so did my confidence. That’s the great thing about camp experiences – meeting new people, learning new skills and gaining new experiences. What I remember most is my growth. I might have been shy that first year, but I soon opened up and met a lot of good people. I went from asking older Scouts

for help to dispensing advice. Success was transformed from the number of merit badges I earned to watching younger Scouts achieve theirs because of my assistance. Some skills I learned will stay with me forever; others probably didn’t last longer than the stay at camp (like basket weaving). But I’ll always remember the camp bonfires, friendships, silly songs and of course, the s’mores.

Monday - Wednesday: • Campers can be dropped off as early as 7:30am. • Campers will be transported to camp at 8:15am. • Campers return to the Club by 4pm each day, and can stay as late as 6pm (no extra charge). Thursday: • Children not spending the night will be dropped off at the Club by 4:30pm. • Overnight: Campers will return to the Club Friday by 9:30am. Friday: • Campers will be able to participate in the programs at the Club until 6pm.
