Student Affairs - Leadership and Professional Development

University of Colorado Boulder

Background The academic reputation of CU-Boulder is among the highest in the nation. Each time a student earns a degree from CU-Boulder, it represents an investment in the future by the university, students, and their families. The Division of Student Affairs at CU-Boulder has several programs that assist students in developing leadership and professional skills. Many of these programs help students transition from the academic to the professional world. By supplementing, supporting, and expanding the following programs, we can increase the number of students who are able to benefit from these opportunities and further enhance the value of a CU-Boulder degree.

Existing Programs Leadership Residential Academic Programs (RAP) at Williams Village The Leadership Residential Academic Program at Williams Village is home to two distinct programs: the Chancellor’s Leadership Studies Program (CLSP) that focuses on civic responsibility and community service, and the Ethnic Living and Learning Community Leadership Studies Program (ELLC) that provides a multicultural living and learning experience.

CU Gold The mission of CU Gold is to be a credible resource for current and emerging leaders on the CU campus while fostering a culture of accountability, leadership, and responsibility by inspiring diverse students to develop and enhance their leadership abilities. CU Gold accomplishes its mission through free and open leadership workshops, networking events, the Core Leadership Program, the Applied Leadership Program, community service, and leadership recognition. Recruiters and Alumni Tell All Recruiters and alumni from various industries share their inside advice on best practices during the job search process. These “Tell All” panels are run through Career Services in conjunction with academic departments across campus. Industry Networking Nights Although career fairs and job postings still dominate the recruiting landscape, both students and employers enjoy the opportunity for more targeted networking events. Smaller than a fair yet more personal than a job posting, networking events provide students the opportunity to ask questions, gather feedback, and make connections for future employment.

Growth Areas Professional Development Certificate To receive the Professional Development Certificate, students must participate in a range of programs and services offered by Career Services to help them develop a strong, flexible resume, learn how to market those strengths to employers, develop interviewing skills, and have a concrete plan for transitioning from school to work. Successful completion of the program will require vetting by one of our employer partners on the Career Services Advisory Board. By developing these skills and proving their readiness for the world of work, these students will be highlighted in our CareerBuffs system as those most ready for the job search.

Make a Transformational Difference With your support, Student Affairs can build and expand programs that further add to the value of a CU-Boulder degree. All gifts should be payable to the University of Colorado Foundation, specifying the appropriate fund.
