Belfast Music Week is a celebration of local bands, industry, venues and musical community. The dates are 30 October to 6 November and the programme will provide an exciting run-up to the MTV EMAs on 6 November.

Belfast Music Week began life in September 2010, with over 100 indigenous acts playing in more than 30 venues and clubs across the city. This year, the aim is to build on that success. There will be more live shows, record launches, industry workshops, exhibitions and unique events. You can witness performances in shopping centres and train stations. Classical music, urban acts, traditional and jazz nights will reflect the rich possibilities of the city.

The city that nurtured the likes of Van Morrison and Snow Patrol continues to embrace new talent. This year we will feature scores of breaking acts plus Ash, the Divine Comedy, The Undertones, Stiff Little Fingers and much loved institutions like The Ulster Orchestra, Belfast Music Society and the Andersonstown Traditional & Contemporary Music School. Our immersion in music is total and our festivals rock. Therefore, we have every confidence in inviting all music lovers to check us out, in person, at Belfast Music Week.

Belfast Music Week is organised by Belfast City Council with support from the Northern Ireland Tourist Board, Tourism Ireland, Invest NI, Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure and the European Regional Development Fund under the European Sustainable Competitiveness Programme for Northern Ireland 2007-2013.

The Ulster Hall, free admission 27 October to 25 November Carrie Davenport’s remarkable images appear in magazines such as Kerrang!, Hot Press, AU and Molten. This exhibition provides a new home on the walls of the Ulster Hall. Photographs of local acts from a variety of genres hang alongside shots of international names playing in venues across Ireland.

Sounds On Screen Queen’s Film Theatre 30 October – 1 November (times vary) The QFT is presenting a series of music films including ‘The Story Of Lover’s Rock’ and an Indie Record Shop Night, featuring ‘High Fidelity’ and ‘Sound It Out’. General Fiasco, The Wonder Villains, Yes Cadets The Mandela Hall, 14+ gig, 6pm, £12.50 Following on from the impressive debut release of the ‘Buildings’ album, General Fiasco have taken on new guitarist Stuart Bell and are now roaring into a new, richer dimension. The band, originally from Bellaghy, will use this Belfast date to

release their ‘Waves’ EP, including the magnificent track ‘The Age That You Start Losing Friends’. The supporting cast of The Wonder Villains and Yes Cadets will also support the notion that off-kilter pop music is alive in these parts.

Speaker: Chandra Lynn owns Glow Marketing LLC, an entertainment marketing agency based in San Francisco. She has led successful marketing programmes for artists including Black Eyed Peas, John Mayer, Linkin Park, Nine Inch Nails, Peter Gabriel and Sting.

Speaker: Tim Self (Propellerhead Software) currently manages sales and marketing at Propellerhead Software in Stockholm. Self has led Propellerhead through the vast changes in software to become a top music technology provider.

BandHack Oh Yeah Music Centre, Ground Floor Exhibition Space, 12pm4pm (by invitation) BandHack is a collaborative songwriting initiative, bringing writers together in digital and physical ‘writing rooms’ to create new works, and sometimes new bands.
