Culford Bus Routes Timetable Including our new express shuttle services from Cambridge and Norwich

About Culford Bus Routes Culford School is pleased to offer a comprehensive bus service for day pupils which operates from towns and villages located as far as 30 miles from the School. This includes the new express service from Cambridge and Norwich, launched in 2016.

PRICE The cost of each single journey ranges from £3.00 to £6.00, depending on the distance of the pick-up/drop-off point from Culford School. Typically there are 33 weeks in the School year. We offer a fixed termly fee of £400 per term for those who commit to the Norwich or Cambridge Shuttle.

BILLING The bus charges are calculated per term, and are added to your school fee account in arrears. You will be charged for all the morning journeys that your child/children have signed up for, but will only be charged for the afternoon journeys that they actually take, as recorded by the bus driver. Please note that cancellation of a reserved place mid-term will still incur the complete morning charge for the term.

SERVICE INFORMATION The services run term-time Monday to Friday, both inbound and outbound, and inbound only on Saturday mornings. Demand for places on each of the routes has

grown steadily year on year and occasionally the demand for places on some routes has exceeded availability; it is therefore important that your application for a seat is made promptly. Any requests received after 15 July may not be able to be accommodated in the term ahead, although we will always do our best to help. In the event that applications for bus seats exceed vehicle capacity, priority is given to: a. Pupils already using the bus service. b. New pupils with a brother or sister already using the bus service. c. Pupils living at the furthest pick-up points, working inwards. If you wish to use the service, please contact the Finance Department on 01284 385345 or email pupilbuses@culford.co.uk

EMERGENCY CONTACT NUMBERS In the first instance, please contact the bus driver on their mobile phone. You will be given their number once you are using the service. Alternatively, please contact the Finance Department on 01284 385345. All buses have an excellent maintenance record and vehicle breakdowns are very rare. All drivers carry hands-free mobile phones and regular drivers are used to ensure continuity. For general queries, please contact Culford Reception on 01284 728615 or the Finance Department on 01284 385345

Frequently Asked Questions Q: How old do you have to be to use Culford’s bus services?

Q: Do I have to be there when my child gets on and off the bus?

A: Ideally age 7 and above, as there is no adult supervision on the vehicle other than the driver. Parents of children younger than 7 who wish to use the service should contact the Head of PrePrep to explore whether using the service would be appropriate. We usually accept younger children accompanied by an older sibling.

A: It is not essential for Senior School pupils, however, it is expected for younger pupils.

Q: How long will the bus wait if I am late? A: It is important to be on time. Buses have scheduled times and cannot wait for pupils who are late as drivers have the responsibility of getting all pupils to school on time. We realise that problems can occur on occasion and the drivers do their best to accommodate parents if they are made aware in advance. Q: May boarders use the services too, for example, as a part boarding/part bus arrangement? A: Yes, as long as it is arranged in advance and there is a space available. Q: What do I do if my child is off School and cannot use the bus? A: A courtesy call to the Finance department would be appreciated if absence is known in advance; this will enable us to notify the driver.

Q: If my child is expected on the bus and fails to get on, what happens? A: If this is simply due to lateness, parents will need to make alternative arrangements for getting their child/children to school. Each driver has a schedule of whom to expect on the bus, morning and afternoon. If a pre-booked morning trip is missed the charge will still apply. However, if an afternoon trip is missed there will be no charge; we are more flexible with afternoon trips as pupils’ activities can influence their usage. Q: Must notice be given if a parent no longer wishes their child/children to use the service? A: Yes, a full term’s notice is required. If a full term’s notice is not given, the charge for all pre-booked trips will be applied to the pupil’s account in lieu of notice. If you have any further queries or would like to speak to someone about Culford’s bus routes, please contact the Finance Department on 01284 385345 or email: pupilbuses@culford.co.uk

Health & Safety and Behaviour The safety of our pupils is a prime concern at all times. We hope you will help us to inform your children about the behaviour that we expect from pupils who choose to travel on school transport. They should act responsibly as representatives of Culford, and maintain the following standards: •

Remain seated with seat belts fastened throughout the journey

Obey the instruction of the driver

Keep noise levels low to avoid distracting the driver

Place all litter in bins/bags provided upon exiting the bus

Ensure all their personal belongings are removed on leaving the bus

Please read this page with your child, so they understand what is expected from them. We thank you for your support.
