gia Cillizza head coach She has previously won coach of the year accolades in the Landmark in 2007, 2008 and 2011. She was named coach of the year in the Capitol Athletic Conference in 2006.
Over the last three years, Gia Fenoglio Cillizza has led Catholic University’s field hockey program to a 42-12 record, its most successful run in its 43-year history. The 2012 season marked Cillizza’s 11th year as head coach at CUA. She became the winningest coach in program history in 2006, and holds a .623 winning percentage, the highest in program history. Cillizza’s squad has been ranked in the top 10 nationally for the last two seasons. In 2012, the Cardinals won their second straight Landmark Conference regular season and conference championship. CUA advanced to the NCAA tournament for the second time in program history and the second time in as many seasons. Five Cardinals received All-Landmark recognition, including Rookie of the Year Hayley Wright. Cillizza and her staff were also recognized as the Co-Coaching Staff of the Year.

In the two previous seasons, CUA won a combined 34 games and the 2010 ECAC championship. The 2011 team also earned its first-ever win over a team ranked No. 1 nationally and first-ever top-ten ranking. Off the field, Cillizza’s team continued to excel with its academics, as the Cardinals received another Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division III National Academic Team award and 11 student-athletes were named to the SGI/NFHCA National Academic Squad. During Cillizza’s time on the sidelines, she has coached seven of the program’s eight All-Americans as well as 21 All-Region selections, 55 All-Conference selections, four Conference Rookies of the Year, two Conference Defensive Players of the Year, two Conference Players of the Year and nine NFHCA All-Star Game participants.
