Confederation of Timber Industries

Confederation of Timber Industries

“It is more than just viable, it represents the future. Engineered timber, from managed forestry, will be the material that defines 21st century architecture.”

THE CTI

Sustainability and Quality

Our Industries contribute substantially to the UK Construction and Manufacturing Industries, providing jobs across the skills spectrum and adding value of c£20bn to the UK economy.

Timber really is the only truly sustainable building and construction material. For every m3 of timber used across the supply chain, one tonne of carbon is stored.

The Timber Industry is the only sustainable supply chain on the planet that embodies and constructs with carbon. Building with Carbon and Growing our Low Carbon Economy is the future.

Alex de Rijke, dRMM Architects

WHAT WE DO: CTI will focus on a number of key projects to influence the development and growth of Construction, Housing, Interiors and paper-based Industries.

Value and Growth

CTI Is an umbrella Organisation, representing the Timber Supply Chain from Forest to End of Life/Recycling.

CTI represents Producers, Manufacturers and Distributors of Timber and Wood Based products.

Our membership includes large Multinationals, as well as key Trade Associations representing the Industry Supply Chain.

CTI and its members will map and report on the value and prospects of the Industry. Understanding the growth prospects and competitive pressures will inform strategic intent.

CTI will play a critical role in setting the bar for timber being at the forefront of growing our low carbon economy.

THOUGHT LEADERSHIP Jobs, Skills and Education Demand for skills across the Industry will grow in line with population increase and demand. CTI will focus on ensuring that the use of timber in construction is top of the agenda as a first choice with specifiers, designers and constructors.

“Timber is changing the face of modern architecture & design. For professionals, it is now the prime material for sustainable urban modernism.” David Hopkins, Wood for Good

Timber and Wood products form the platform for life not just in the UK, but across the world. The research, science, development and employment of such a universal material demands highly skilled and knowledgeable workforce, whether from Forestry, Shipping, Manufacturing, Distributing, Retailing or Recycling and Energy Production.

HOW WE DO IT: CTI will work to stimulate growth and productivity. CTI governance will reflect a pan-supply chain approach to provide representation across the Industry. CTI activity will focus on: • Growing the Industry • Sustainability of future supply • Quality standards across the Chain • Education, Jobs and Skills • Careers in the Industry
