Alumnae Au Courant September 2017

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! We are happy to introduce 74 recent graduates to our alumnae association, which plays an important role in the life of each current student. Through giving back, volunteering, mentoring and attending events, we continue our long tradition of supporting Sacred Heart Greenwich together. I look forward to seeing many of you at all of our traditional alumnae events as well as school activities, starting with Fall Festival and Reunion on Saturday, September 23. In doing so, you will witness how life on King Street has changed, but the spirit of Sacred Heart Greenwich remains. In my role as President, my goal is to help you stay connected with what is happening on campus, because in today’s ever changing world, community is more important than ever. Opening of School Prayer Service

(Class of 2017 lifers pose with Barat Center students) On Wednesday, September 6, the school community gathered to celebrate the Opening of School Prayer Service. Pamela Juan Hayes '64 spoke to those in attendance saying, "Today we gather to celebrate the beginning of our 169th school year to consider who we are and where we stand. What a great privilege it is for all of us to be part of such an excellent educational environment, where opportunities exist for faith development, learning, leadership, community building and service as hallmarks of the institution. This is a moment marked by change, challenge and growth. Some of us will be here for the first time, while others have been here for many years. The duration does not matter as much as the fact that we all belong to a large support system joined by a common bond that makes us members of the Sacred Heart family." We look forward to a wonderful 2017-2018 school year. To see pictures from the prayer service click here.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for New Turf Fields

On Friday, September 8, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held to open the new Joan Magnetti, RSCJ and Rosemary Sheehan, RSCJ field hockey and lacrosse turf fields. The entire student body gathered for the celebration that included a water cannons show, ribbon cutting and demonstrations by the varsity field hockey and varsity lacrosse teams. The field hockey field is a water-based artificial turf and blue in color to provide high visibility both on the field and for spectators. Manufactured by GreenFields, and installed by NET Sports Group, the field is the same construction as that used in the 2014 Field Hockey World Cup in The Hague, Netherlands. Lacrosse players are excited about the turfing of the lacrosse field, which is adjacent to the field hockey field. The turf, GreenFields MX, is unique in its woven, not tufted, construction. GreenFields is the only turf manufacturer that makes a woven product. The result is a more natural grass like product that plays true to all sports. When speaking about the new fields Pamela Juan Hayes '64 said, “The exciting addition of these new fields to our outstanding athletic facilities will provide a maximum, state-of-the-art experience for our young women athletes as they develop their skills on and off the field and improve their level of competition."
