Come Home for Christmas

On December 1 and 3, alumnae, parents, students and friends came together to celebrate Christmas at the 5th annual Come Home for Christmas weekend. Thank you to all alumnae who volunteered, attended and participated in the festivities. A special thanks to boutique co-chairs Nicole Russo Steinthal ’88 P ’19, P ’21 and Paula Tennyson, Newton College '75 and Santa's Secret Shop co-chairs Camille Mordaunt P '25 and Liz Waldrup '77. More than $75,000 was raised over the course of the weekend for the Sacred Heart Faculty and Staff Professional Development Fund. Click here for photos from the weekend.


Volleyball Reunion

On Saturday, November 25 we welcomed home alumnae volleyball players for our 2nd annual Volleyball Reunion on the courts of the Athletic Center. Alumnae and current varsity volleyball team members played a friendly game.

From the Broadcast Studio Lucy Adams '12, Kate Rayner '05 and Kat Spillane '11 shared their insights about how the broadcast journalism program at Sacred Heart helped prepare them for their careers.

Lucy Adams '12 is a filmmaker from Hastings-onHudson, New York. After graduating from Sacred Heart in 2012, she attended Kenyon College where she studied English and Film. In the summer of 2016, she was awarded the Valentine and Clark Emerging Artist Fellowship and has written, produced, and directed several short films that have been screened at festivals internationally. Kate Rayner '05 visited Sacred Heart Greenwich's Intro to Filmmaking class on December 1. She shared how she applied her interests in acting and writing in Sacred Heart's classrooms to her career as a reporter at NBC Connecticut. As a reporter, Ms. Rayner produces on average two stories a day. She shared video clips with the class of her reporting on breaking news stories as well as a poignant story about a five year old girl who was facing serious surgery. Kat Spillane '11 visited the Advanced Broadcast Journalism class to share her story with the students as well as lend advice to those considering a career in the industry. Ms. Spillane explained how she originally wanted to be a lawyer, but after studying English at Dartmouth College and working as a legal assistant, she decided to pursue her high school passion, broadcast journalism, instead. Katy Grogan Garry '95 creates custom art for Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Katy Grogan Garry '95 has teamed up with The Picture House Regional Rilm Center to create a unique exhibit of original artwork to celebrate the highly-anticipated opening of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Selected fine art pieces from Garry’s collection will be on view in the lobby of the historic theater from opening night on Thursday, December 14th through Sunday, December 31st. The artwork, inspired by the Star Wars movies, will also be available for purchase with a portion of the proceeds benefitting The Picture House. To read more about the partnership click here.

Bicentennial of St. Philippine Duchesne Pilgrimage

This upcoming July, join the Religious of the Sacred Heart in Europe as they embark on a pilgrimage for young adults (ages 18-35) in France as part of the Bicentennial of St. Philippine Duchesne.


Open to Sacred Heart students, alumnae and educators, you will join 150 young people from July 21-28 as you live in the footsteps of Philippine in Grenoble, France. For more information email Catherine Swanstrom at kswanstrom@vdoh.org

In Memoriam Anne Nawn daughter of Patricia Joyce Figge '58, niece of Mary Catherine Joyce McCooey '60, Bonnie Joyce Grace '63 and Cathleen Joyce Egan '68, and cousin of Julie Grace Burke '87, Katie Grace Daly '88 and Mary Catherine McCooey Dodman '88 Ann Joyce Figge Nawn of Skillman, N.J., died suddenly and unexpectedly on Nov. 8, 2017.
