You should be trained on Cayuse424 if you know you will be, or are thinking of, submitting a proposal, assisting others with grant proposals, or if you review and approve proposals.
Wed., March 21—12:00—1:00pm, 202E DEV—Researchers Resources: An Introduction to our new Human Research Protections Program Research Toolkit and Comprehensive Website The HRPP is dedicated to ensuring the safe and ethical conduct of research in compliance with federal, state and local laws. Learn about the resources available on our website and bring your suggestions for further improvements.
Wed., April 4—12:00—1:00pm, 303C DEV—Funding in the Health Professions (Office of Sponsored Programs) This hands-on workshop (bring your own laptop) will teach you how to find external funding opportunities for your project. You will learn how to search for grants on the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) websites. Information will be provided on the different types of NIH grants and how to determine if one is right for you. You will also learn how to use popular grant search databases such as grants.gov, The Foundation Directory, Community of Science, and the Grants Resource Center’s Grant Search. This session is designed to show you how to find both federal and foundation grant opportunities.

Student Scholars Day OURS (Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarship) is proud to present and host the 17th Annual Student Scholars Day (SSD) on Wednesday, April 11, 2012. SSD is held once each year to celebrate the scholarship and creative work performed by GVSU students. The day showcases facultymentored student work; SSD projects may be initiated as part of a course or as independent collaborations with faculty. GVSU encourages all students to consider enhancing their personal and professional development by engaging in scholarly and creative work with faculty, and to share their work with the GVSU community. Open Access Fund The Grand Valley State University Libraries is committed to supporting the ability of our faculty and researchers to participate more fully in the open access scholarly publication movement. Open access journals make articles freely available on the Internet, permitting any user to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search or link to the full text upon publication. There are currently more than 6,600 open access academic journal titles. Some of these journals require that the authors pay a fee once their article is accepted for publication. This business model helps to support the continuous, free, dissemination of an author's research to an international audience of scientists, researchers, faculty, and other interested parties. The primary goal of this program is to remove financial barriers that prevent researchers from publishing in open access journals. The Libraries will cover up to $3,000 of author submission fees to support the ability of researchers to publish in established open access peer-reviewed journals and peer-reviewed journals that have an open access option. Additional Goals Include:
Increasing the visibility of research performed by GVSU authors Raising the visibility of open access publishing options among GVSU authors Increasing the number of GVSU authors publishing in open access publications Collecting data that can be used to measure the effectiveness and impact of this program

What is Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR)? RCR refers to the shared principles of honesty, accuracy, efficiency and objectivity that should guide research. There are a number of areas that have been identified as central to the responsible conduct of research, they include: data management, advising, publication practices, peer review, collaborative research, human and animal research, research misconduct, and the conflict of interest. Throughout the year, the RCR Advisory Committee will be offering workshops on this subject. Please check the seminar page, under Center for Scholarly and Creative Excellence to see the list of upcoming workshops being offered by CSCE. Individual Consultation for Faculty CSCE provides individual consultations with GVSU faculty in areas related to their scholarly activities. We can assist faculty in a variety of areas including:

Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) The IACUC Submission process is going electronic! Watch for important updates as we plan and develop an online application. Meanwhile, reference our IACUC Handbook of Policies and Procedures for important information regarding the care and handling of vertebrate animals; includes training and research review requirements for GVSU faculty, staff and students.
