Jim Smith, head basketball coach and winningest collegiate basketball coach on any level in Minnesota, celebrates 50 seasons at Saint John’s University this year. Coach Smith began the 2013-14 season, his 50th at SJU, with a 755-535 career record (.585). He gained his 700th win on Nov. 21, 2009, with a win over NCAA Division II MSU-Moorhead. Smith is one of only 27 coaches in NCAA men’s basketball history to win 700 career games. On Feb. 13, 2002, Smith also reached the milestone of coaching his 1,000th career game. 26 gojohnnies.com
