Graeme As I am sure those that have ever spoken to me will have noticed the accent and possible mistaken it for Australian?? But no, I am South African born and bred. South Africa has plenty to offer: game drives trying to spot the illusive big 5, perhaps a round of golf or two, even an Ostrich ride, deep sea fishing, shark cage diving, wine tasting, whale spotting, mountain biking, sand boarding, hiking.

Jess I grew up in New York and spent most of my twentysomethings in California and have driven across the US more times that I can count. What always fascinates me about the US is how vast the country is and how different each state is. Needless to say, I’ve been to almost every one of the 50 states!

Simon I really do go on about it but South America is such a fantastic continent to visit, I have been a few times myself and love it. I have been on a South American Sojourn all my life, I love the continent from Caracas in the North to Punta Arenas in the South, It is truly spectacular.

When I was living in Thailand I had the opportunity to compete in an adventure race. Cambodia is a beautiful country and I travelled to Siem Reap to take part.

Hawaii is a pain to get to, but don’t worry if you’re considering a Hawaii trip you can fly direct to Los Angeles have a night stay and then onto Honolulu if you wish.

If you can’t find what you are looking for, we’d be more than happy to put something together for you...

Independence Day is annually celebrated on July 4 and is often known as “the Fourth of July”. It is the anniversary of the publication of the declaration of independence from Great Britain in 1776. It is a day of revelry, of fireworks and parades, of barbecues and carnivals - in short, of all things American. People travel to New York City for the Fourth of July for many reasons - some to be with family, others to watch the awe-inspiring Macy’s 4th of July Firewords Show. Each year on the Fourth of July, millions of revelers journey to the banks of the Hudson River in NYC to watch the Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks Show. At this stunning NYC event, first held in 1958, six barges will launch 40,000 fireworks over 1,000 feet in the air as smaller boats blast water jets of red, white, and blue.

Celebrate the American way

With your New York CityPASS you’ll be able to explore the best attractions – absolutely free! For the duration of your stay your CityPass includes: TM

The isolation of dramatic Icy Strait Point is balanced by the small-town charms of Juneau, Alaska’s capital city. Sitka, where Russia transferred ownership of Alaska to the United States in 1867, still exhibits its Russian heritage in the historic Russian Bishop’s House and the onion domes of the Russian Orthodox Church. Read what our customers said about our recent March 2012 departure

What a fantastic holiday we had. The group of 22 people who met at Beijing really jelled which made our cruise even better as there was always someone to chat to. The China part of the holiday was excellent-nothing was too much trouble for the tour operator. The national guide Cynthia, and the local guides Jason, Beijing and Arran in Xian all spoke excellent English and were very informative. Strangely the day in Beijing most of us thought the best was the visit to the park for our Tai Chi lesson and to watch all the locals enjoy keep fit sessions.

Then you ill visit Thian Hock Keng Temple, one of Singapore’s oldest Buddhist-Taoist temples, before driving past Chinatown. Stop by a Local Handicraft Centre and observe up-close craftsmen at work. Proceed to the National Orchid Garden, located within Singapore Botanic Gardens, which boasts a sprawling display of 60,000 orchid plants. Our final stop at Little India will give you a scent of joss sticks, jasmine and spices.

Hong Kong Island Tour The tour begins with a tram ride to Victoria Peak for a 360-degree view of the city, harbour, and islands that has mesmerized visitors and inspired photographers since the tramway opened in 1888. The transport waits at the top to drive to the next destination, Aberdeen. Here the contrast in Hong Kong lifestyles is never more evident. Sampans zip around the harbour, their size dwarfed by huge multi-million dollar yachts and fishing boats in the marina. A sampan cruise (optional) around the docked boats provides a glimpse of everyday life as people go about their business repairing nets, cooking, and sorting the catch on their fishing boat. Next stop is at the popular outdoor shopping market known as Stanley Market. Good bargains are designer goods and factory outlet clothing, brassware, porcelains, leather goods and souvenirs such as, silk shorts, and jade trinkets. En route to Stanley, pass the lovely Repulse Bay. In Repulse Bay, one building of particular interest is a glistening new glass high-rise that features a cut out in the middle. In keeping good with Feng Shui, the cut out allows the dragon an unobstructed journey from the hill should he need to drink from the bay.

Holiday Highlights Rio Carnival Although Carnival (Carnaval in Portuguese) is celebrated in towns and villages throughout Brazil and other Catholic countries, Rio de Janeiro has long been regarded as the Carnival Capital of the World. The Rio Carnival is not only the biggest Carnival, it as also a benchmark against which every other carnival is compared and one of the most interesting artistic events on the Globe.

Rio Carnival

Rio Carnival is a wild 4 day celebration, 40 days before Easter. It officially starts on Saturday and finishes on Fat Tuesday with the beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday after which one is supposed to abstain from all bodily pleasures. Carnival with all its excesses, celebrated as a profane event, can be considered an act of farewell to the pleasures of the flesh. It usually happens in February, the hottest month in the Southern Hemisphere, when the Rio summer is at its peak. One of the greatest elements of the Rio Carnival is that it not only provides entertainment for many people around the world but it also gives a chance to learn about the true culture of Brazil. Carnival is very important to the Brazilians, it sums up their culture. It is a euphoric event where people dance, sing, party and have tons of fun. There are many parties that take place before, during and after Carnival all night and all day. It allows someone’s true heart to come out and have as much fun as possible. Then it is Carnival all over the place, in the streets and squares, bars, clubs and all other venues, taking over the whole city of Rio and culminating in the Rio Carnival Parade also known as the Samba Parade. Grand Prix ticket included

Every spring, sports car fans from around the globe descend on the Principality of Monaco to witness the Monaco F1 Grand Prix. It is the one race of the year that every driver dreams of winning. Like the Indy 500 or Le Mans, it stands alone, almost distinct from the sport from which it was born. Spectators delight in the raucous noise of the roaring engines as they speed along the Boulevard Albert 1er up toward the Casino and around the hairpin turn in front of the Fairmont Monte Carlo. Overtaking is next to impossible so qualifying in Monaco is more critical than at any other Grand Prix. The Portier corner is key to achieving a good lap time around Monaco. It is preceded by the Loews hairpin, the slowest corner in Formula One, and followed by the tunnel, one of the few flat-out sections of the track. Some great names have ended their races in the barriers here, most notably Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher.

Dune Dinner Safari The World’s most popular excursion where you are taken into the desert in your 4x4 across the dunes and then on to a desert camp for a funfilled b arbecue, laced with all that the region is known for. This never fails to please and it is perfectly timed so you see the sun go down across the dunes before you experience a camel ride, belly dancers, falcons, henna tattoos, sand boarding and you can also try on the local costumes for that never-forget picture. This can be a thrill ride as the dunes are not like ours, so if you have a back problem, no worries, we will book a slower and more gentle 4x4 for you. Take a camera and cardigan (it gets a tad nippy once the sun goes down,) as you cherish this unforgettable half day excursion.

Celebrity Cruises • Celebrity Xpedition 11 nights • Weekly Departures through 2013

Many destinations promise visitors the chance to “step back into history”. The Galapagos Islands perhaps best exemplifies that promise, as Celebrity Cruises takes you to a destination that helped shape one of the world’s leading scientific doctrines. Known as the inspiration for Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution, this cluster of islands is so isolated that many of its creatures cannot be found anywhere else on Earth. From the giant tortoises to the marine iguans and finches, the Galapagos Islands afford you the chance to observe a living laboratory of adaptation. This truely is a once in a lifetime holiday, like nothing else you will ever do.
