A strong school ethos which focuses on making good choices, using reparation and positive praise enables all pupils, including those with behavioural challenges, to work towards developing self regulation and feelings of success.

CGS works effectively with a number of other agencies delivering bespoke packages of therapy to meet the emotional needs of pupils. The school has trained its own Play & Drama therapists and employs its own OT.

From its youngest pupils to its oldest students CGS works actively and consistently towards developing independence to enhance each individuals future. A comprehensive and embedded approach to PSHE develops in pupils the skills and values for adult life.

CGS remains at the heart of all we do and strive for. •

There is a clear & understood commitment by all to the aims of the school that enables learners to develop & grow in their community, showing pleasure & taking risks in a safe, secure and nurturing environment. The strength and trust that exists in all relationships is an exceptional feature of CGS and critical to the outstanding success of all learners. Their contentment in school is reflected by their positive engagement, open testaments and involvement in all learning opportunities. Learners take immense pride in their school, attendance is high and there is full and active involvement in all school activities. Learners new to the school quickly engage in learning with confidence and curiosity. Parent views sought through surveys tell us that their children change beyond their expectations and have a renewed enthusiasm for learning. A learner has said that they liked school so much now that “they don't want the weekend.”

Self Evaluation 2015/16 SUMMARY The effectiveness of Personal Management, Behaviour & Welfare is judged to be OUTSTANDING because:

There is a comprehensive and thorough focus on life skills, road safety, stranger danger, relationships and on -line safety, all explored at a wide range of levels to engage all appropriate to their needs. As a result of regular & visible celebrations of the diversity of the school community alongside a robustly implemented PSE/ SRE & social skills curriculum & high profile school council, pupils are well prepared for life in modern Britain. CGS is an accredited Rights Respecting School. There is an active response to current national priorities such as embracing the Prevent agenda through open discussion & promotion of developing pupil knowledge and capacity to make considered judgements.

Learners also learn through the culture of school and curriculum that bullying, intimidation and causing others harm is not tolerated and incidences in school are low. CGS pupils demonstrate an exceptionally high regard for those with differing needs.

Our PSHE programmes and interventions are exceptional and varied in their content to support our vulnerable population towards making safe and appropriate decisions in their developing independence in adult life.

A range of opportunities for pupils to share opinions & have an active voice in the school are well established resulting in excellent relationships between staff & learners.. Pupils have opportunities to share views with Governors at committee meetings, to observe lessons and make their voice heard through Pupil Voice Days.

Destinations for pupils are college or Project Search. Incidence of NEET is very low. Attendance at school is high: pupils want to be here and show us by their daily commitment

To sustain Outstanding standards the following areas are be worked on: •

Continue to build on involving learners in modifying their own behaviours to further reduce incidents of CB.

Further the openness of discussion and tolerance amongst all at CGS particularly when managing responses to current events.

Further work placements or volunteering opportunities within the community to show case learners skills, talents and abilities.
