MARILYN STATUE ATTACKED BY A BEAR!!!! It's true! Every night a bear comes and attacks the new Marilyn Monroe statue in Palm Springs! Check out the photo for yourself. At night when the lights are turned on they cast a shadow on the wall behind the statue that looks exactly like a bear!! COME ON BOARD... MY FIRST RSVP VACATION by Chic Gennarelli

(I have never been on an RSVP Vacation so I asked my friend and Emmy Award winning costumer, Chic Gennarelli to write a a few words to tell us all about his cruise to the Mediterranean this summer which sailed June 29th - July 6. As you probably all heard, the ship was not allowed to dock in Morocco due to the “Gay Factor”…………………….) The hook that made me want to go on this RSVP cruise was that it was departing from Barcelona and porting in Morocco. Barcelona is my kind of city... beautiful buildings, great art, a very calm atmosphere and to top it off...the food is

wonderful. After a week on my own in Barcelona I boarded the Niew Amsterdam, a two-year old Holland American ship, with my friend Hal Bishop (designer and art aficionado). There were 1600 passengers and a crew of 800….great service! We were at sea one day before we were suppose to port in Casablanca, the second big reason I chose this cruise! How dramatic. Casablanca with a chance to see Marrakech. Wow! It was during this part of the cruise we got the loud speaker announcement advising us we would not be porting in Morocco. Although disappointing, no one seem to be very upset. RSVP said it was a last minute change. The ship’s Captain told us this had been a last minute decision by the local leaders. Muslim Drama...I felt it was because this was a gay cruise and neither Holland America, RSVP nor the local Moroccan leaders thought they could guarantee our safety. But, we were definitely welcomed in Spain, so instead of Morocco we sailed to Malaga, Spain. It is a beautiful small port city looking very much like a resort. I hired a car and driver for one hour and saw as much as I could. We started at the top of the hill overlooking the city and I could see the bull ring and the Roman Wall. The older streets are paved in marble so onlyTaxis are allowed to drive on them because they are fragile. I also got to see the beautiful Picasso Museum and one of his houses. Malaga turned out to be a very nice detour!

Interesting enough, when we ported in Ibiza the following day, the story of our not being allowed to dock in Morocco was in newspaper! The article read that the Moroccan government did not stop us from docking, rather it was a decision made by the cruise line and RSVP. None of the passengers knew for certain what the truth was. We also visited two other great ports...Cadiz and Valencia. I made sure I was back on the ship every afternoon. I didn’t want to miss the fun! The RSVP entertainment representative was Scott Nevins (of TV’s Smoking Gun fame) who kept us busy with many pool games and contests. Great fun! Both pools were always busy with lots to look at and lots of drinks all around. The age range was from 21 to 81 with even a “Bear Party” joining in.

The food was amazing with something for everyone. Each table had an orchid…nice touch! After lunch we caught the hysterical female impersonators, Sister Helen and her companion Eleanor Rosefelt, hosting the fun’ist Bingo ever. One of the best parts was the sexy “Bear” signing for the deaf! He was so expressive! You couldn’t keep your eyes off of him! The room was filled with 200 guests laughing their asses off. Sister Helen was all about “Amen this” and “Hallelujah that.” But this show was only one of the many fantastic shows offered on this cruise.

restaurant staff really knows their stuff! Did I mention The Silk Den? It is a lounge with spectacular views…. As you can tell the many restaurant and lounge options aboard the Niew Amsterdam are plentiful and wonderful!” After dinner it was time for more fun withsomething always going on either the Show rom, the Queens Lounge or late night in the Piano Bar. Oh, don’t forget the Casino? Kim Kuzma is a wonderful singer with a repertoire spanning Chaka Khan to Donna Summer. The girl worked hard with her songs and comedy. We liked Kim so much we ended up seeing her three times during the week. Then there was Chi Chi Rones. A very fun and beautiful Drag Queen with great legs. Next there was Cashetta, the Extra-LargeMedium, that entertained with her fun magic show. Later, in the Casino, she would be holding court at one of 21 tables. Also funny man, Ant, entertained us with his own brand of humorous stories. To top it off, there were big parties on the Lido deck…everything from the Intro Dance, Disco party, Leather Party and a Toga Party thrown in for good measure. The DJ’s sound and lights we great…they must have heard us miles away. On the last night of the cruise we were lucky to catch funny man, Leslie Jordan. He had waited all week to do his show and his show was wild, filled with stories about picking up hustlers! Way funny! Leslie had been traveling with his younger twin sisters and mom. I introduced myself to the twins and was blown away…they both sounded just like Leslie and just as petite. So cute! A truly wonderful vacation. I will definitely go on another RSVP trip in the future. Loved it! Chic

Then time for a little nap before dressing for the evenings festivities. I must say that cocktails at 7:30 p.m. and dinner at 8:30 was the highlight for me. Meeting new friends while enjoying great food at sunset was a sweet spot. The cruise offered main dining room with open seating, but we only got to go there twice due to the other delicious restaurant choices. The greatest joy for us was sit and speak with new friends every night!” Hal and I met a couple from Austin and a guy named Keith from Houston Texas, who ended up joining us for cocktails each evening. The elegant, reservation only, Pinnacle Grill offered a fine-dining experience complete with Frette linens, Bvlgari Rosenthal china, and Reidel stemware. Plus it presented a beautiful sunset atmosphere and the food was fabulous and the service excellent. The restaurant in the crow’s nest part of the ship was the Pacific Rim restaurant called The Tamarind. Just when I thought the service could not get better.....it did. The entire

Bill ‘Bulldog’ Feingold Show

featuring Kevin Holmes

2 Snaps Up in the Morning! An Exclusive LIVE Magazine story by Levvy Carriker and Juli Ragsdale.

We went by to say hello to our good friends on the airwaves, Bill “Bulldog“ Feingold”, and his “trusty sidekick”, Kevin Holmes, at the KNEWS Radio Studios in Palm Springs. Walking down the hallways you see many orderly sound rooms and corporate style offices. We had to have escort through a secured door and as we made our way down the hall suddenly this door jumped out at us, covered in photos and news stories of Bulldog Feingold and some of his celebrity guests and peeking into the office you see that is was loaded up with stuffed bulldogs and memorabilia. . At the same time a loud burst of laughter erupts. We knew we had arrived! We had a meandering conversation and many laughs throughout the interview. For the readers sake, we will cut to the chase with the breaking news: Bill and Kevin are going to take over the Morning Drive! That’s right! Now you can tune in first thing in the morning, from 6 to 9 AM. They will be brushing us up on the latest news and weather and all the first morning pertinent we might need, as well as tickling us in their special way and reminding us that life isn’t so bad after all in our piece of heaven we call the desert....What better way to start your day? And the best part is that we will still get our dose of Bulldog and Kevin in their regular show at nights! So starting August 27th, we will have the Bill Feingold Show from 6 to 9, both in the morning and at night! Both times will still be full of their fun loving humor and even more celebrity guests. We are so honored to get to break the news in LIVE Magazine! Below is just a small part of our enjoyable conversation.....

Levvy: Where are you from? How did you get here? Bill: By plane! NY, then LA in ‘87. I guess I bought a condo here 13 years ago for weekends. Then I came out here for about 6 or 7 weeks and then I thought, Why am I gong back to LA??? And then I just stayed here. Levvy: When I think of Bill Feingold I think of celebrities... Just to name a few, Bryan Cranston, Shirley McClaine, Bill Cosby, Johnny Mathis, Mary Wilson, Florence Henderson, Suzanne Somers, Robert Wagner, Scheky Greene,Andy Cohen, The Housewives of Beverly Hills, Lilly Tomlin,Lindsey Wagner, Hal Linden, Kaye Ballard, Ruta Lee, Carol Channing, Judith Chapman,Cast of Bold and Beautiful, Bobbie Eakes, David Steen, Don Rickles, Debbie Reynolds, David Brenner and Mary Bono Mack. Bill: Well I am celebrity driven! I DID run for City Council. And Larry King brought me bagels from the McCallum Theatre. Levvy: How did you get to radio? Bill: When I was Chair of the Human Rights Commission, and back then we used to do a lot, and I would come on the Marshall and Stone Show and they would sort of make fun of me...They were the afternoon people here at KNEWS and I would come on and say what we were doing and then Brian Long, who was the program director, thought I should be on the radio and I would say “no, I hate my voice! I don’t want to be on the radio!” But that is how I met Kevin--he was the producer of that show. Not that he would talk to me or was friendly or anything...he was very nasty.. Kevin: I was very nasty. Bill: No, he was not nice to people when they first came into the studio. And then finally I said yes I would do a show and we started working together and it will be 5 years in November. And we started with just one hour on Saturdays. And Kevin didn’t talk, and I did a full 60 minutes, but it only took 20 minutes, so we had a lot of ad lib time to fill. Levvy: Your two voice tones match really well. They ying yang together. Just your voices alone are attractive to the listener I think. Bill: Well, Kevin’s got the great voice. Kevin: I have the sexy voice.

All nodding... Bill: But, it has been a great trip! It has been a lot of fun. I thought I was going to do a serious show. (laughter from all) I know! I always knew I was funny. But I never thougt I would do it on the radio...and then as you get more comfortable you say, oh screw this, why have all this serious stuff all day? So John McMullen sort of gave us a break.

Kevin: Yes he did.

Kevin: No, Bill prepares for hours....hours.

Bill: So we went from one hour on Saturday to one hour during the week, which I loved, 7 to 8. Of course back in those days I was up at night and I would call you up and say, “Let’s go to dinner or happy hour”. Then John McMullen, (title) came to us and said I would like for you to be on 7 to 10. And I thought he meant MORNING!!! Perfect! and John said, no, PM.

Bill: I was here at 7:30 this morning. This is my second trip to the office. (He pulls out an overstuffed satchel with a chaotic stack of papers 4” high in every direction) Here is my show. You can’t see it though...this is tonight’s show.

Kevin: And I was ok with that! I am not a morning person. Bill: Which will be proven shortly. Kevin: I will be though! Bill: No, Kevin is real excited. Levvy: How did you get into this Kevin? How did that happen? Kevin: Um, I was the producer of the Marshall and Stone show. And Bill was a frequent guest on that show and like he said, I wasn’t very nice to the guests that came in and... Bill: I went into the control room... and I said I wanted to introduce myself and he said in a growl, “No one comes into the control room! “ Kevin: Get out of my studio! I did that to everybody. It wasn’t just you....and then you got your show and I was the producer of it and I wasn’t talking on the radio. Bill: Yeah, he didn’t talk! Kevin: I didn’t want to. And then one day Bill was on air and said to me, “So Kevin...” and I was like, Crap! I don’t want to talk! And then I started talking to him and then that was it. Bill: Yeah, and then we became like best friends. And we fight on the air and we laugh on the air. Kevin: Yes, we have fun. Levvy: So there is some news going on at KNEWS?? Something big to announce? Bill: Yes, our show is moving. Kevin: We are moving to the morning! EARLY morning! Bill: Well, it’s not that early! I am up at 4. So I am ready to roll.

Juli: Oh! Look at that pile! Bill: This is thin! Because it’s Summertime! Kevin: No, It actually gets a lot larger! Juli: But you actually use paper?? Kevin: Yeah, I don’t know why he does that. It is funny because Bill has the same legal pad every day and sometimes he forgets to change the date, so he will start the show and say “It’s Thursday, the 24th” and I’m like, “No, it’s Friday the 25th!” And I will look over and he has the date written wrong across the top. Bill: I always write “The Bill Feingold Show” and the date across the top every time. It is superstitious. Bill: Anyway, KNEWS has been really good to us. And they are taking a chance. Levvy: Well KNEWS is a great radio station. They service the community very widely on different topics and with different kinds of people. They raise a lot of awareness for charities. I love that they are diverse. Bill: And I found out today that we are “The Face of KNEWS”! Kevin: Oh really? I didn’t know that. Juli: So Kevin, tell us about your face. Kevin: I’m a Nebraska boy. Bill: And we make fun of it all the time. Kevin: Well, that’s ok. I make fun of Nebraska too. I moved to Palm Springs in the year 2000. I have been here for...OMG, that’s a long time. Levvy: You have almost been working for KNEWS for half that time right? Bill: Oh, he is like an old timer... Kevin: I have been working here for ten years. Levvy: Ten years? In what capacity?

Kevin: I’m NOT! It is 6 to 9 in the morning!

Kevin: Um, I was just the producer of talk shows before..

Bill: Yeah, and then we will still be on 6 to 9 at night.

Levvy: Just! You are so humble!

Kevin: I am up to it though. I am very excited. It will be awesome. It is the Morning Drive.

Kevin: It’s kind of a glamorized title really. I just push buttons.

Bill: We know it is a big responsibility....little kids being dropped off at school...rapidly we hope...It’s going to be Good Morning America meets Bulldog and Kevin. We are going to give you the news, the weather, the sports, but then there are big chunks of time for us to just do our thing. And lots of celebrities! Tons of celebrities, yes, we have tons of celebrities lined up after Labor Day. Levvy: Now Bill, how are you going to get Kevin out of bed at four in the morning to be to work by 6? Kevin: Oh believe me, he will be texting and calling... then he will be knocking on the door.... Bill: He is much more reliable than people give him credit for. He really is. Kevin: My alarm will wake me up. I might be pissy when I get here, but I’ll be good. Bill: But I think we will be the best talk show on morning radio. We will give you everything you need to know and then we will just be funny! It just happens. I make fun of people on the show. I make fun of myself first, and then Kevin makes fun of himself first... Juli: And then here we go! The good stuff! Bill: And the show has grown to the point that if I go out, and, well, I don’t want to name any names, but like famous ladies or something, society people, they say, “You haven’t talked about me lately and ....well if I don’t talk about you , then I don’t care. You know, there is nothing worst than being boring. If I am not making fun of you, then you know I just really don’t care. Like I tell the mayor of Palm Springs, “So I make fun that you live in Denver”. It’s a good thing that I bring him up. In truth though, we work very hard on the show! It just doesn’t come out of thin air, I mean, I have one friend that says, “Oh, so you just go talk for three hours...”

Bill: The truth is nobody knew he could speak until I came along! Kevin: Oh stop! Bill: You never talked much on Marshall and Stone. Kevin: I never talked on Marshall and Stone because it was all politics. I talked to Jackie Olden about food. Bill: Oh that’s right, about how much bourbon to put in the meat loaf! Kevin: I’m ok with talking about stuff like that. But I was just behind the scenes pushing buttons and yeah, you are right, suddenly Bill came along and I’m talking all the time. Bill: And now we have a corner office (he gestures our the corner window) Puff puff ! Levvy: It is a really brilliant combination, the two of you. Because it is kind of tug and pull, and you throw the ball back and forth. Bill: And we are going to have a third person. He is not going to talk a lot in the beginning, but Kevin is going to be sitting with me. Kevin was always behind the glass before. Juli: What? Even now? Because I have only seen you live on remote location shows and I didn’t know this about the studio. Kevin: Oh, good point. No, I am always behind the glass in the studio. It’s kind of like Frasier and Roz--I was like Roz and he was Frasier. But now it has changed so I will be sitting at the desk with Bill. Bill: And the third person will kind of be doing the news and the weather and answering the phones... Kevin: And pushing the buttons!

Laughter...

Kevin: And I will. Bill: So we are starting our own network. Do you think the readers would like to know what it’s called? Levvy: Sure! Bill: THE BONE! Bill: We took from Oprah, The OWN, added a B for Bulldog and it’s THE BONE. So we have Florence Henderson and... we get the best guests! And I asked Florence Henderson if she would like to do a cooking segment on our show and she said, “Sure, what is it called? “. And I said “The BONE” and she just started laughing and... Levvy: You do use Wesson oil on that, right? Bill: Well, she told us she can’t cook, but she does want to take Kevin to Broadway to his first Broadway Show and then rape him. Levvy: um, Ok? Kevin: Well she does insinuate that a little bit. And I was like hey, hello Mrs Brady! Bill: With all the celebrities, it’s going to be a variety...I said it’s Florence Henderson is back on THE BONE....laughter....and they all crack up!” Bill: And that is how we know that management doesn’t listen that often! Although John picked up on it the other day. He said let’s talk about your TV network. And I said, yeah, It’s THE BONE. Bill: Well, we used to be on TV, but he (Kevin) got us bounced. Kevin: I did not get us fired! You got us fired! Bill: We didn’t get fired, we got “suspended”! Kevin: Yeah, from a job we weren’t being paid for! Bill: Yeah, Feingold Fridays! Juli: Well, what did they expect? Bill: They had no sense of humor...those folks... Kevin: You made a bad joke and they got mad. So whatever.... It’s their loss. Bill: Oh yes, and they want us back, but now I’m done. Kevin:And now it’s not going to be able to happen because we have a morning show. Levvy: See, they lost their opportunity. They should have JUMPED ON THE BONE!!! Bill: So, on the morning show, by 20 after 6 you will know everything. The difference in the morning is that we are going to have to do things a little different. But if we have a celebrity, I will keep them on for two hours. When Carol Channing first came on our show, Kevin calls me and said I thought that would be Phyllis Diller. He is learning a lot about celebrities. Kevin: Well I was confused about who... Juli: That’s what I like about you! You are like me! I am not much of a star gazer. And Bill is always like, “You don’t know WHO...so and so is????” And you say, I don’t know who these people are! Kevin: Well, I know like Pop Culture. I don’t know who... Bill: Well, here’s the thing. The third guy on the show...I’m 62, you are 42? I think the third guy on the show is like 21! Levvy: Oh, that will be good. Bill: Yeah, I mean, so I won’t have to rap so much! Levvy: That’s what I like about your show...It kind of goes off to a degree and you never know where it is going to go. Bill: Well, we don’t know! I mean! Levvy: I mean, that is the genius! It’s real! It’s the real deal! Juli:

Yes, it’s authentic!

Kevin: No, we have so much fun on the show and there is a great chemistry when we are on the air. I just think it’s awesome. I am excited for the morning. Bill: Listen to him. He excited for the mornings!

We are all excited for what promises to be more than a few great mornings to come! Thanks Bill and Kevin for sharing the fun. It is two snaps up in the morning!

August 9, 2012: Duck Soup, 1933, 70 min. Starring The Marx Brothers The small state of Freedonia is broke and must borrow a lot of money from wealthy widow Mrs. Teasdale (Margaret Dumont), who insists that the government be placed in the hands of Rufus T. This August marks the 50th year since Marilyn Monroe’s passing. The current issue of lIFE Magazine features her on the over with the caption, “remember Marilyn.” It’s somewhat of a puzzle that Marilyn, never the greatest motion picture star, is still being heralded 50 years after her untimely death. one has to wonder why this is the case. yes, Monroe was the leading female star at Twentieth century Fox at the time of her passing, having inherited the crown upon the abdication of the reigning female Fox star Betty Grable. However, Grable, one of the all time box office champs, is barely remembered today, while Monroe still grabs headlines. At the height of her

popularity, Monroe ranked several times among the top ten female box office stars, but was never number one. As this writer recalls, she was number ten and perhaps ranked as high as number seven, but never was voted number one in the movie exhibitors poll of female box office draws. Monroe’s popularity has grown significantly since her death in 1962, possibly due to the mysteries that surround her passing. Even recently, the unveiling of a check written by Monroe the day before her “suicide” for a piece of furniture had psychologist’s questioning whether Monroe killed herself. They say that a person contemplating suicide would not be concerned about paying for a piece of furniture for the home. of course, the question remains today: was Monroe murdered? She had had affairs with both President Kennedy and robert, his brother, when he was Attorney General. After her death, rumors spread that Monroe had called a press conference for the following week and that she was about to reveal some top government secrets that the Kennedy’s had blurted out during their trysts with Monroe. Marilyn’s live in housekeeper swore that the night of her “suicide” Monroe’s bedroom door had been locked from the inside and that she had to call Marilyn’s psychiatrist to break a window to gain access to the star’s bedroom when she failed to answer the housekeeper’s pleas. Another rumor was that the housekeeper had been paid to keep her silence about what really happened. rumors also spread that Monroe’s home had been secretly wired and that a playback revealed the sounds of a struggle on the night Marilyn died. Autopsies also indicated that traces of the medications Marilyn supposedly took to overdose herself were not found in Marilyn’s throat, etc. one, too, has to wonder if Peter lawford lied about the supposed “farewell” phone call he received from Marilyn the night she died. However, lawford was married to a member of the Kennedy clan, so the question remains, was he telling the truth? The secret of Monroe’s passing has died with her. If Marilyn were alive today and or passed away at a ripe old age one hast to wonder if she would be the legend that she is today? It is something to think about.

Eyes In Hand By Michael Tapia

Mid September, 1995, Silver lake cA. I am awakened by the phone ringing. I hear my mother speaking to someone. My ears perk up when I hear her say, ” ok, robert, we’ll be ready.“ She hangs up and I can hear her approaching

my room. I sit up and prop myself up on the bed. “Good morning, Mijo!”

I feel her hands reach for my face and she says,” you’re my miracle child. you are very special!”

“Good morning, Mom”, I say in a grog.

we hug and cry.

“That was robert Hales from Heart to Heart, the cable show. “I told him we’d be ready for the interview and he is going to pick us up in 2 hours.”

Like magic, I find myself on stage preparing for the interview. My Mom watches from the green room.

“what! Mom, I can’t go on cable like this!“ I had made that commitment before going totally blind last month. My voice begins to crack and tears begin to well up in my eyes, a sense of terror coursing through my veins.

“Action! Take one!”

My mother sits on the bed next to me. I feel her place her hands firmly on my shoulders and she says, “Michael, you have too much passion for life to give up now! I know it’s been a very hard time but you are not a quitter!” I am stopped in my tracks. It is time to get off the pity pot and she is right.

robert starts with his British accent, “welcome to Heart to Heart, a program dedicated to people living fully with HIv and AIDS. Today, it’s my pleasure and honour to introduce Michael Tapia who will share a most compelling story of love and loss with us.” (continued in next column)

Ask Barry... No Appointment dear Barry, This has been one of my worst years. My partner of 1 year moved out after a minor argument, my best friend meet this guy and was introduced to crystal meth and the company I work for is relocating to another state. The year started with so much hope and for the first time in my life I was really happy.

YOU CAN QUIT...

and we can help!

I am a 40 year old man, who has spent the last 15 years mostly focused on my career at the expense of relationships, and building friendships. I have tried talking to my friend, and he is suggesting I go out with his new friends and lighten up. My partner will only come back if I agree to stay in town and put him on my checking account. The company I work for has refused to allow me to telecommute, so I will either have to move or find another job. I do not want to go back to the lifestyle of just work and no social life, yet I am concerned with losing everything I have worked for. what do I do? Do I leave my job, hang out with my best friend and start to party as well as move my partner back in and do what he wants? Three Questions

SMOKING CESSATION CLASS Dear Three Questions, First off, what is a 40 year old man who seems to be smart and successful, thinking of making some poor decisions? If you like the company your work for, and they are offering to move you, go. Take this as an opportunity to build the life you want. Get involved in some clubs or groups that are of interest and meet some people in the new city. Find the balance of work and pleasure, without destructive people. your best friend is getting into drugs, and he wants to bring you along. what kind of friend is he? crystal Meth is one of the most addictive and destructive drugs, and he wants to introduce you to it and tells you to lighten up. And your partner wants to go through your money, by having him on your bank accounts. (Be glad he moved out). what you think is your worst year, might actually be one of your best years. You might finally realize that it is up to you to find a good balance with some healthy people in your life. you have an opportunity to move to a new city and start fresh. Take the move and look at it as a gift. Leave the partner who cares more about your money to find someone else to rip off. let your friend know that you are still there for him and see if he shows up as a friend when you move. At work, make sure you take time for yourself and develop some new interest outside of it. The universe has made your move with your company easy. now take advantage of the gift it is giving you.

In Between Men, Season 1 is available on iTunes now for $4.99 from Qubed Entertainment. For more information, visit inbetweenmen.com

In Between Men, the popular gay drama series that helped

pioneer the ten - minute format when it began broadcasting over the web last fall, releases to iTunes this week. created by Quincy Morris, directed by jennifer Gelfer, and starring nick Mathews, Ben Pamies, and chase coleman, the show follows the lives of friends in new york city living “in between” a gay world whose clichés they don’t relate to and a straight world they don’t belong.

is a young man at the top of his game. He finds little in common with the superficiality of most guys in the city and struggles with a lonely love life, wondering if he should settle for Mr. Almost-right or hold out for someone better.

The role of Dalton was originally intended for a black actor, but when few black actors showed up to the three Manhattan auditions, Morris gave the role to nick Mathews.

At first glance, In Between Men might look like just another gay drama series. However, where the characters in most gay programs live in an insular gay world (eating and breathing the lGBT community), In Between Men depicts out gay men who don’t fully subscribe to the practices of mainstream gay society. Dalton, Dane, jacob and Ben are four attractive, successful men who refuse to be defined by their sexuality.

“Playing Dalton came so effortlessly to him. nick captures his vulnerability and strength.”

Through wild adventures, racy storylines, joys and pains, In Between Men examines the relationships they share with one another, their colleagues, lovers, and the city of new york. According to Morris, the show offers a more accurate reflection of how the majority of gay men live today.

In TV and film, bisexual men are often depicted as villainous liars and cheaters; endangering lives, betraying women and men by engaging in sexual behavior behind their partner’s backs. Morris says he wanted to show that not all bisexual men live like this. Many live very open, free lives, and are committed loyal partners.

“In Between Men is not a show about men trying to be straight or denying their sexuality,” he explains. In addition to being the series’ creator, Morris is also the head writer and executive producer. “The characters are proud to love themselves and other men.”

“At the same time, those who date bisexuals often battle feelings of inadequacy,” Morris continues. “Many fear they might not be enough and that their partner’s attraction to another gender may eventually lead to them leaving.” That’s why Morris created Kyle, jake’s boyfriend.

i-Tunes is selling all six episodes as a 60-minute package for

$4.99. When In Between Men debuted this fall, it was among the first web series to pioneer a ten-minute format. As recently as a few years ago, most series on the web ran 2 – 4 minutes. “we offer a level of quality on par with cable television,” says Morris.

jacob, played by Max rhyser, is the artistic, bisexual character. “Though I don’t personally believe bisexuality is as common as people claim it is, it was important to me to have a bisexual character,” explains Morris.

Benjamin Reed, played by Ben Pamies, is the iconic male figure; what gay men want to be and be with. He is oversexed and promiscuous but also intelligent and successful. He is a loving friend and family man whose career ambition outshines even his looks.

So why did they decide to premier the series online? Says Ms. Gelfer, “The web offers something that is unprecedented in the entertainment business: complete creative control.”

“we can’t deny Benjamin reeds exist in our community,” says Morris. “However, I needed Benjamin to be human, to be someone viewers would care about. His looks are perfect on the outside but, like all of us, he is on his own road to completion.”

Morris also contends that while network and cable television have begun introducing more gay characters to popular sitcoms, they continue to represent a narrow view of the community, often painting gay men as the feminine sidekick. “Most shows on Tv play off the stereotype of gay men being sissies,” he argues. “They don’t represent the fullness of a gay Diaspora that is rich with many types of personalities. Gay men are still men. For many, being gay only means being attracted to other men.”

The character of Dane, played by chase coleman, is the mirror opposite of reed. He is naïve in love and his pension for chasing after bad boys gets him in trouble. “So often, gay men look outside themselves for affirmation of worth,” says Gelfer. “Gay men are not taught to love themselves. They’re often told they should be something else, namely ‘straight’. Dane is a product of that. He is the American dream – blonde, handsome, and a doctor – but he doesn’t allow himself to realize what a catch he really is.”

The men of In Between Men value their manhood and project traditional standards of masculinity. They are average guys that choose to not trade their testosterone for estrogen simply because they sleep with other men. Morris says the show draws its inspiration from his own life and its characters are based on his personality traits.

one thing most people have in common is that we live in a perpetual state of in-between: in between jobs, in between relationships, friends, family, lovers…“That is why I named the show In Between Men,” concludes Morris. “These are themes everyone, gay and straight, can relate to in life. no matter whom we are, what we are, or where we are in life, we’re always someone, somehow and somewhere in between.”

Dalton is the lead character of In Between Men. like Morris, Dalton

Pinkie’s Place

by Antonio lopez III / Maximum Security

WHaT’s yoUr TaKe? Until the tragic events of the midnight screening of the film, The Dark Knight rises at an Aurora, colorado movie theater, most of us have not seriously considered movie theater security. This columnist is guilty as charged. That is until suspected shooter james Holmes entered a packed theater and reportedly began shooting with lack of inhibition, movie theater security was one of the things most Americans took for granted. Even in the terrifying days after September 11th, when any form of an assembly of people became somewhat unnerving, the topic of movie theater security didn’t get much more than a passing mention.

Hello all you FABULOUS people out there! And a special shout out to all of our Amazing advertisers in LIVE magazine. Please support our advertisers as they strive to support our community! Well the Shimmer family returned from our world tour of Montana and North Dakota and we are safely back to our mountain home in Idyllwild. Waiting for us at home was the ashes of our dear petchild Caesar. He is now on the mantel. It is still hard, but we are happy that he is home now. As many of you know I just passed my 14th anniversary of my HIV diagnosis. Many of us with HIV and AIDS are well trained for the role of subservient patient. We were trained to believe that other people and outside circumstances can determine our health and happiness, and that doctors make us well. But that attitude doesn’t work with AIDS/HIV. And so many of us have started taking responsibility for our healing. We have recognized that choices exist and that we make them happen.

But it appears that the security of moviegoers in the wake of the frightening incident is now a consideration. Andon one hand, it may seem like a practical concern; there are few instances where consumers are as vulnerable in such large numbers as a movie on a day-to-day basis. (In response to the killings, some theaters have banned costumes and other distractions at movie screenings). on the other hand, movie theater security nearly seems to be an issue of diminishing returns — if movie theaters were to become like airports and stadiums, attendance would almost certainly drop to even lower levels as moviegoers decide that a film isn’t worth the trouble. coupled with that, few inc dents at movie theaters like the shocking carnage at the showing of The Dark Knight rises have occurred in the uS, and the rarity of such an incident seems to indicate the overemphasis about terrorism in general may be exaggerated. Still, moviegoers are shaken by the chilling events. The los Angeles Times quoted 34-year-old Katie Gerber as she attended a screening of the movie. Gerber admitted she was a bit spooked: “It’s horrifying what happened in colorado and it makes me scared about copycats here… I’m not nervous to go see the movie now, but it’ll be hard not to think about it during the gun-fighting scenes.” Do you think movie theater security should be stepped up after the massacre during The Dark Knight rises in Aurora? I’m still thinking about that. you? until next time, as usual, get serious about security, be safe. call Maximum Security for all your security needs.

We’re understanding that all healing happens inside our bodies and that we can communicate with our bodies to help our healing. So we call back any energy and power that we may have left in our doctor’s office and we begin to attend to ourselves. We make choices based on what feels right, based on our own truth. And we thank our doctors and other healers for their help; they are our peers and friends. And we know that each of us is a doctor of divine healing. I wish you the most amazing day. Life is short so please enjoy every moment. Until next time

Types of dog allergies The two most common dog allergies are foods and inhalants. Each of these affects a dog differently, but they can be addressed with a few very simple steps to decrease the severity of your dog’s reaction.

ALEX’S PET GROOMING PROFESSIONAL GROOMING SERVICE ALEX BENSHIMOL

by Brenda lynn Martin

Food Allergies- Try to identify the foods that are causing the reaction. The allergic dog should be reverted to a very bland diet such as rice and boiled hamburger or chicken. After all signs of past reactions have ceased, slowly reincorporate foods into the dog’s diet, one by one, while you observe for allergic reactions (such as diarrhea, vomiting, gurgly stomach, or skin irritations)

which can take from a few hours to several days to appear, so if the dog is showing no signs of an allergic reaction after one week of eating a particular food, an additional food should be reintroduced. Allergens can be also be detected through specific allergy blood testing. Environmental or inhaled allergens.- When dogs breathe in particles such as mold, dust mites, dander, and pollens of grasses and trees which can result in painful, itchy skin irritations. Western medicine looks to symptoms such as itching, scratching and lesions, whereas TCM also recognizes the less obvious symptoms such as restlessness, irritability and panting. Food therapy can be a very effective way to treat allergies in dogs. Chinese medical theory states that food is like a medicine. Food is classified as having various properties such as cooling, warming, etc. Allergic dogs should eat duck, fish, rabbit, whitefish, cod, string beans, celery, banana, apple, pear, barley, brown rice, broccoli, flax seed oil and yogurt. Incorporating cooling foods into an allergic dog’s diet will help to resolve the underlying disharmony that is causing the reaction

Table 8 Productions Presents World Premiere of 1980s Teen-Sex-Comedy-Musical

Summer camp-a raunchy rockin’ comedy LaS VEGaS, NV – Table 8 Productions presents the world Premiere of the raunchy, rockin’ comedy Summer camp! The musical, with book by Troy heard, music by angela chan, and lyrics by heard and chan. The run begins Friday, august 10, 2012, at The Onyx Theatre in commercial center and plays weekends through august 26. The production is directed by heard with musical direction by chan. It’s Summer 1982: Reagan’s in the White House, the Russians are building the bomb, and rustic Camp Tigglebitties is a hormonal hotbed where ubernerds Nolan and Dwight vow to lose their virginity to the gorgeous Lacey St. Clair...at the possible expense of their friendship. Serious questions are raised: can Dwight enlist help from ObiWan? Who will win the Kotex 500? And what IS The Mook? “Summer Camp! is a musical homage to the classic genre of the early 1980s cinema popularly known as the Teen Sex Comedy,” says Heard, who was selected Best Director of 2011 by NPR’s Desert Companion magazine. “I remember staying up late many Saturday nights to watch Porky’s, Meatballs and Revenge of the Nerds on HBO. And like any red-blooded, prepubescent male I always thought there was way too much story between the shower scenes. This is my chance to fix that...while amping the awesomeness by adding musical numbers in different 80s rock-and-roll styles.” “We’ve also jumped on the audience interaction bandwagon with this one,” Heard says. “There’s a splash zone, of course, but since this is a sex comedy and not a horror spoof like Evil Dead, Summer Camp! is definitely adults only!” Performances are Fridays through Sundays, August 10 - 26 at 8 pm. Tickets are $15.00 and are available at the door and on www.onyxtheatre.com Performances of Summer Camp! The Musical will be at The Onyx Theatre, located at 953 E. Sahara Ave. #16 in Commercial Center, Las Vegas, NV.

This year’s San Diego Pride was the most attended that anyone can remember with an estimated 200,000 spectators attending the Parade. For me the weekend kicked off with Filmout showing the movies, Gayby and Welcome to New York. I was privileged to be invited be the co-host for the night’s premiers. For all you kink lovers out there purchase you tickets for August 15th 7:00 P.M. at the Birch Theater. Filmout will be showing Kink Crusaders, a behind the scenes look at the annual International Mr. Leather competition. For more information on Filmout and features visit their website at www.filmout.com

2012 has a year of firsts in Hillcrest! Last month we had a street renamed after the late Harvey Milk. Friday July 20th we partied in the streets, San Diego Pride and Hillcrest Business Association along with Fabulous Hillcrest presented The Pride of Hillcrest Block Party with a Ferris wheel, open air dance stage, cocktails and food. The headliner for the event was Neon Hitch. Finally something we should all be proud of is that Service Men and Women were able to march in uniform in the pride parade. So next July 2013 head towards San Diego Pride.

We have been nominated for a Nicky Award and need your vote so go to

So ProuDLY IT WAveS: We are letting LGBT Pride fly high over Hillcrest on the corner of university and Normal on a 65 foot pole. The 12 foot by 18 foot flag waves just south of Harvey Milk Street. The rainbow flag was created by an artists by the name of Gilbert Baker, a friend of the late Harvey Milk in 1978. Since then the flag has been used around the world as a symbol of LGBT unity & Diversity. The original flag had eight strips with, pink and turquoise being removed for production purposes. 1979 brought the current color scheme of six colors as we know it today. The Flag should always be displayed with red on top or red from left to right.

orange = Healing

Blue = Harmony Purple = Spirit So next time you visit San Diego take a walk to university & Normal and look up and feel proud! We have come along way but we still have a long road ahead so we can all be equal. IS IT oSCAr? No IT’S NICKY!

Altar Boyz

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 1, 2012 Contact: Noah Longton (858) 703-‐7430 noahlongton@gmail.com Altar Boyz Book by Kevin Del Aguila, Music & Lyrics by Gary Adler & Michael Patrick Walker Noah Longton Presents Altar Boyz at Diversionary Cabaret with book by Kevin Del Aguila, music and lyrics by Gary Adler & Michael Patrick Walker, and directed by Noah Longton. Opening night is scheduled August 9, and will continue through August 19 at Diversionary Theatre, San Diego (4545 Park Blvd). ALTAR BOYZ is a foot-‐stomping, rafter-‐raising, musical comedy about a fictitious Christian boy-‐band on the last night of their national "Raise the Praise" tour. The Boyz are five all-‐singing, all-‐dancing heartthrobs from Ohio: Matthew, Mark, Luke, Juan and Abraham.

With their tight harmonies and spectacular choreography, the ALTAR BOYZ will delight your audiences. As they perform their signature hits such as "Rhythm In Me," "The Calling," and "I Believe," the Boyz question their loyalty to each other and ask whether or not faith is really holding them together. They finally deliver a message of unity, that "there is no star as bright as its constellation, no harmony in a single voice."

The ensemble cast of Altar Boyz includes Hanz Enyeart as Matthew, Hunter Schwarz as Mark, Shaun Tuazon as Luke, Patrick Mayuyu as Juan, and Nicholas Sloan as Abraham. Music direction by Sean Laperruque, choreography by Michael Mizerany, set and lighting design by Michael Hoffman. Single tickets for Altar Boyz are available online at www.diversionary.org, by calling (619) 220-‐0097, or by visiting 4545 Park Boulevard San Diego, CA 92116. $25 for general admission, $39 for VIP (Assigned seat and 1 cocktail) For more information or to arrange interviews, please contact Noah Longton at (858) 703-‐7430 or noahlongton@gmail.com Altar Boyz Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday @ 8pm Saturday @ 7pm & 10pm Sunday @ 3pm

big mike with Patrick Wallace and Mike Curry It just so happen one day when I was checking my facebook page and I received a message from a gentlemen by the name of Patrick asking me for my help. He explained to me about a simple and amazing idea that he and his good friend from San Francisco Michael Volpatt had come up with. In May 2012 Patrick noticed a facebook post beautifully written by Michaels Mom Sharon, expressing her unconditional love she has for her son. Patrick was so moved and taken by Sharon’s words of love and compassion towards her son that he called Michael and suggested that they needed to create a site that other parents could express their love for their LGBTQ children. After tossing back and forth with names they quickly decided on calling their new project “A Note To My Kid. Co-founder, Creative Director and Patrick Wallace lover, Mike Curry has helped the two create the look and feel of A NoteTo My Kid. Patrick and Mike were both born in the South, Patrick moving to San Diego at the age of two from Dallas, Texas in 1977 and Mike moved here from Durham,North Carolina at the age of twenty two in 2005. They met each other at San Diego Pride in 2008 outside the once Ono Sushi Restaurant. They finally got to know each other a few weeks later at an annual community event called Screen on the Green were they watch a movie under the stars while drinking wine and eating cheese and bread. Beginning what is now a wonderful love affair.

On top of their full time jobs Co- founder Patrick is the Executive Director of A Note To My Kid, a grassroots movement designed to bring a little more love into the lives of the LQBTQ community, their families and friends. While Mike stays busy keeping the cite creative and easy to use. They are such loving and caring human beings. Oh and their both easy on the eyes as well. I have had the pleasure along with City Commissioner Nicole Murray Ramirez to be a part of the founding Board of A Note To My Kid. I have such love and respect for these two gentlemen and am honored to become very close friends with them both. Watching these younger individuals become such positive role models and give such hope for so many others makes my heart beat even faster. I invite you to please check out the website (http://www. anotetomykid.com). Read the stories and even write one of your own or make a video to your special child or love one. Love brings us together and even saves lives. Patrick and Mike you are Angels sent from God and I love you both. Keep up all your great work, you are truly changing the world, THANK YOU.

Desert Pride Organization’s Freedom to Marry Balloons Wow the Crowd at the Nation’s Fourth Largest Pride Parade Greater Palm Springs Pride represented the Coachella Valley in the San Diego Pride parade on July 21 and debuted several new 20-foot-tall character balloons including same-sex couples Adel and Eve and Adam and Steve. The custom designed giant balloons were featured in the parade to draw attention to equal rights and the freedom to marry for all individuals. At more than 60 times their traditional 4-inch size, the lovable Adel and Eve are cake toppers that were transformed into a balloon measuring 15 feet long, 14 feet wide and 20 feet tall. Adam and Steve are just over 20 feet tall, eight feet wide and eight feet long. A team of 50 volunteers guided the crowd pleasing balloons through the Hillcrest neighborhood of San Diego. According to San Diego Pride 150,000 people lined the route and saw the balloons. The Adel and Eve balloon complete with white wedding dresses, six foot veils and a four foot bouquet in their hands appeared to hover the road Saturday against a bright blue sky and brilliant sunshine in front of a crowd reported to be 150,000 strong. Adam and Steve donned their finest black tuxedos and nearly two foot wide bow ties and were met with loud cheers and applause by spectators. In addition to the balloons, two couples were on hand and featured in the parade contingent. Cathedral City Council Member Sam Toles and his husband Matthew rode in a convertible and Lilia Marodi marched in her wedding gown with Becky Marodi , the woman she wants to legally marry but is not allowed to marry. “Having Council Member Toles and his husband in the parade along with the Becky and Lilia helped put real people in front of the freedom to marry issue,” said Ron deHarte, president of Palm Springs Pride.

In the last three weeks, Palm Springs Pride has partnered with the Palm Springs Bureau of Tourism to present parade contingents in the World Pride Parade in London and at San Diego Pride. “Participating in other Pride parades provides an opportunity to raise awareness for equal rights, show support to other pride organizations and showcase Palm Springs as a welcoming, LGBT friendly destination.” added deHarte.

ABOUT GREATER PALM SPRINGS PRIDE The Greater Palm Springs Pride organization (pspride.org) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit community enhancement organization founded to promote the public education and public awareness of individual rights and civil liberties of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and to promote the history, diversity and future prosperity of the Greater Palm Springs LGBT community. For twenty-six years, Palm Springs Pride has been a tireless advocate for equality and diversity. This year’s Pride celebration theme is: “Long May it Wave!” For information about upcoming events and volunteer opportunities visit the web site at: PSPride.org. Streetbar Artwall Project welcomes Photography by

David herholz

David Herholz had his first exhibition on May 27th, 1970 in Akron, OH the day he was born. During his teen years he enrolled in photography classes at north High School in Akron and later, upon entering college at Kent State, he expanded his knowledge and passion for photography while earning an Associate of Arts degree. In the process of “finding himself”, David pursued a second Associate degree at the University of Akron while supporting himself in personallyunfulfilling jobs. In 2007, travel to Palm Springs inspired him to leave behind the verdant greens and blues of the Midwest in exchange for the pastel palette of the Southwest. His image of the desert floor from the peak of Mount San Jacinto was featured in the California State Parks Foundation magazine,Parklands, for Spring 2012. The same image also appeared in the print invitation for the organization’s Park Advocacy Days. David was also a winner in the Palm Springs

2011 Desert Magazine Image Makers photo contest. His collection of photos has been shown in various venues throughout Palm Springs. David continues to travel around California and the Southwest in his ongoing quest to find the “perfect shot”. While nature photography is his prime interest, he remains ever alert and open to any photographic opportunity that may arise. The Artwall Project is a grassroots organization introducing local artists while raisingfunds for the A.I.D.S. Assistance Program and other charities such as The Rainbow Center and Palm Springs Animal Shelter. Twenty Percent of all art sales are donated to AAP or the artists’ charity of choice. Photography by David Herholz at Streetbar, August Wednesday, July 18 through August 27th 2012. Streetbar is located 224 e Arenas Road in Palm Springs, CA,USA
