e n o i z a f e r _p I soci di qualche decennio fa faticherebbero a credere ai loro occhi, sfogliando questo libro e osservando come, da Concordia e dai territori della bassa pianura emiliana (dove è iniziata e continua la nostra storia), CPL si sia diramata e abbia messo radici in tutta Italia e in diverse altre nazioni del mondo portando ovunque, oltre a prodotti e servizi di grande qualità, occupazione e possibilità di fare impresa insieme, diffondendo benessere sociale. La nostra impresa, infatti, ha un valore sociale che va continuamente valorizzato, condiviso e incrementato. Molto di quello che siamo riusciti a fare nel corso della nostra storia, passata e recente, è legato proprio alle persone: alle singole personalità e al gioco d’insieme. Ai fantasisti capaci di impulsivi colpi di testa, ai gregari capaci di fare squadra e di tenere duro. Ciascun attore di questo bel film che dura da 110 anni può essere visto come protagonista. Ciascuno. E con le fotografie che abbiamo qui raccolto vogliamo dire proprio questo: vogliamo valorizzare le persone, e così valorizzare CPL CONCORDIA nel suo insieme.
_preface La nostra forza sono le persone dell’azienda. E i soci in particolare, attraverso i quali si realizza lo scambio mutualistico. I soci che, attraverso un investimento economico, certo, ma ancor più attraverso il proprio lavoro, da sempre contribuiscono alla continuazione di questa impresa. Saper stare in cooperativa non è una cosa ovvia. Per stare in cooperativa occorre dare più di quel che si prende, come amo ripetere spesso ai soci giovani. Se non si fa così il secchio si vuota in fretta, e non rimane più niente per nessuno. Per questo occorre continuamente migliorare se stessi, superare i propri limiti, entrare nel merito di ciò che si fa, essere sempre propositivi e collaborativi; e così aiutare - con il proprio contributo lavorativo, con le proprie idee, con le proprie energie e risorse personali l’azienda a crescere. Siamo e vogliamo essere una cooperativa capace - come recita la nostra Missione - di “generare lavoro vero”. Un lavoro che tiene in conto ed esalta la dignità di ogni persona, la sua umanità, la sua professionalità.
Un lavoro che svolgiamo sempre al meglio, silenziosamente e spesso di nascosto, spesso sottoterra o dietro le quinte anche di luoghi importanti. In questo libro tutto ciò è ben evidente. Sotto il manto stradale per costruire una tubazione o per riparare un guasto improvviso; all’interno di una cabina per contribuire ad alimentare energeticamente una città; in un lontano ufficio per telecontrollare e garantire un servizio efficiente ad un ospedale; oppure in una sala macchine per garantire il comfort e l’energia necessari per lo svolgimento di un grande evento di sport o di spettacolo. Sempre lì, sempre per offrire un servizio che crediamo non sia “solo” di qualità, ma con qualcosa in più dato dal nostro modo di essere, di relazionarci, di ascoltare, di rispondere. Tutti i giorni dell’anno, ogni ora del giorno. Ben oltre, in verità, le otto ore che danno il titolo a questo volume fotografico. Un titolo accattivante, che vuole catturare l’attenzione, e che è un pretesto per dire a chi ci guarda che stiamo parlando di lavoro, di persone protagoniste del lavoro, e delle loro giornate che scorrono e trascorrono
sempre piene di attività, d’incontri, di routine come di imprevisti. Questo libro è un omaggio a tutte le persone che hanno fatto la storia di questa bella cooperativa. Non solo a quelle che si vedono qui rappresentate - e che sono il simbolo dell’oggi della cooperativa - ma proprio a tutte, dal 1899 fino ad oggi. The partners of several decades ago would have a hard time believing their eyes when leafing through this book and observing how Cpl has branched out, from Concordia and from the territories of the low plane of Emilia (where our story began and where it continues even now), and has established itself throughout Italy and in various other nations of the world. Wherever it has gone, Cpl has taken with it, over and above high quality products and services, employment and the possibility of doing business together, thereby spreading social well-being. Indeed, our business has a social value which is continuously improved, shared and increased. Much of that which we have been able to do throughout our history, distant and more recent, is connected to people: to the individual person and to those working together. To the dreamers capable of sudden impulses, to the gregarious ones able to make a team and persevere. Each actor of this beautiful film which lasts for 110 years can be seen as the protagonist. Each one. And with the photographs that we have gathered here, we want to say exactly this: we
want to improve the people, and thus improve CPL CONCORDIA as a whole. Our force is the people of the company. And the partners in particular, through which the mutual exchanges are achieved. The partners who, through an economic investment, certainly, but even more through their own work, have always contributed to the continuity of this company.

Knowing how to remain in a cooperative is not an obvious thing. To remain in a cooperative, it is necessary to give more than you take, as I often say to the younger partners. If this does not happen, the bucket quickly empties and there is nothing left for anyone. For this, it is necessary to continuously improve oneself, to exceed one’s own limits, to get to the heart of what one does, to always be resourceful and collaborative, and, therefore, to help the company to grow - with one’s own working contribution, with one’s own ideas, with one’s own energies and personal resources.
This is all very clear in this book. Beneath the road surface to construct a pipe or repair an unexpected fault; within a gas reduction station to contribute to the energy supply of a city; in a distant office to control remotely and guarantee an efficient service to a hospital; or in an engine room to guarantee the comfort and energy necessary for the carrying out of a major sporting or entertainment event. Always there, always offering a service that we consider to be not “only” of quality, but also with something more, due to our way of being, of relating, of listening, of responding. Every day of the year, every hour of the day. Much more, in truth, than the eight hours of the title of the this photographic volume.

o t t e g o r _p Sono 106 le immagini selezionate, tratte dal lavoro di alcuni fotografi che hanno prodotto oltre 7000 scatti dando vita ad un progetto di comunicazione che ha diversi obiettivi: celebrare i 110 anni di vita della nostra cooperativa, testimoniare la molteplicità di attività e di ambiti nei quali CPL opera ma soprattutto mettere in primo piano l’uomo e il suo prezioso lavoro. Il linguaggio di queste immagini parla senza troppe mediazioni: è diretto, spontaneo, reale. Il libro fotografico nasce con questo scopo narrativo, come testimonianza di una giornata lavorativa fatta di incontri, routine, imprevisti, certezze. In questa storia ci sono vite che si intrecciano con altre vite, storie con altre storie. “Ott[o]re” è un viaggio: negli spazi e nei tempi di una giornata lavorativa con CPL CONCORDIA. Un viaggio di un giorno, come tanti, quasi un “reportage” per sottolineare come anche
_project “l’ordinario” di ciascuno possa essere straordinariamente bello e pieno di dignità. Un viaggio nel presente, nell’Italia e nei paesi all’estero nei quali lavoriamo, nei nostri cantieri, nelle sedi. Un viaggio di un giorno, intervallato dalle immagini tratte dal nostro archivio storico, a testimonianza delle nostre origini così lontane e della trasformazione del nostro lavoro nel tempo. Sarah Angel Bezzecchi (una dei fotografi) in una lettera alla redazione del nostro giornale aziendale scrive: …“si sentivano veramente parte di quello che stavano facendo, sembrava ci fosse un filo conduttore, non dall’alto in basso ma più in senso orizzontale, a tessere concretamente qualcosa a beneficio della comunità”. Un altro fotografo, Roberto Morellini, in una “lettera aperta” dice: “Ogni persona era parte dell’azienda, uomini felici, seri, orgogliosi e fieri”.
Spero che questo progetto, che ci ha impegnato tanto, possa essere, oltre che uno strumento di comunicazione efficace, un modo concreto per dare riconoscimento e soddisfazione certamente ai protagonisti delle foto ma contemporaneamente a tutti i colleghi che ogni giorno contribuiscono al cammino della nostra cooperativa.

There are 106 images selected, taken from the work of a few photographers who took over 7000 shots giving life to a communication project that has different objectives: Celebrate 110 years of existence of our cooperative, show the broad range of activities and fields in which CPL operates but especially bring to the forefront man and his invaluable work. The language of these images speaks without too much explanation: it is direct, spontaneous, and real. The photographic book is born with this narrative purpose, as evidence of a workday which includes meetings, routine duties, unforeseen events, certainties. In this story, there are lives that interweave with other lives, stories with other stories. “Ott[o]re (Eight Hours)” is a journey: in the spaces and times of a workday with CPL CONCORDIA. A journey of a day, like many, almost a
‘reportage” to underline how even everyone’s “ordinary” can be extraordinarily beautiful and full of dignity. A journey in the present, in Italy and the foreign countries in which we work, in our dockyard, in the offices. A journey of one day spaced out by the images taken from our historical archive, as witness of our origins from so long ago and of the transformation of our work over time. Sara Angel Bezzecchi (one of the photographers) in a letter to the editorial office of our company paper writes: …”they really felt as a part of what they were doing, it seemed there was a conductor wire, not from top to bottom but more in a horizontal sense, concretely weaving something for the benefit of the community”. Another photographer, Roberto Morellini, in an “open letter” says: “Each person was part of the company, happy, serious, proud and pleased”.
I hope that this project, in which we have invested a lot, can be, besides an instrument of effective communication, a concrete way to provide recognition and satisfaction certainly to the protagonist of the photos but at the same time to all our colleagues that contribute every day to the work of our cooperative. The first activities of the cooperative, since 1899, concerned works of moving earth and the construction of river embankments. In the photo, dated approximately 1947, the works of the wheelbarrow teams – workers supplied with wheelbarrows (hence the name) and shovels – by the Canale Sabbioncello, the most important irrigation canal of the Consorzio di Bonifica Burana for the diversion of water from the Po river to the fields of Mantova and Modena.

Le prime attività della cooperativa, fin dal 1899, riguardarono lavori di movimento terra e di costruzione di argini fluviali. Nella foto, databile intorno al 1947, i lavori delle squadre di scarriolanti - operai muniti di carriole (da cui il nome) e badili - presso il Canale Sabbioncello, il più importante canale di irrigazione del Consorzio di Bonifica Burana, per la derivazione delle acque dal fiume Po ai terreni mantovani e modenesi.

At the beginning of the 1950s, a team of the Cpl occupied in building reinforcements of the embankment of the Po in the district of Rovigo. Near to the curves, the river tended to erode the bank. It was therefore necessary to reinforce the embankment using rocks made to fall from overhanging rocks near the water, through the use of a transporter belt.

Nei primi anni Cinquanta una squadra di Cpl impegnata nel rinforzo degli argini del fiume Po in provincia di Rovigo. In prossimità delle anse (curve) il fiume tendeva ad erodere la sponda, per cui si trattava di rinforzare l’argine con l’utilizzo di massi fatti cadere a strapiombo vicino all’acqua mediante l’utilizzo di un nastro trasportatore.

Nel 1962 la cooperativa realizzò l’Acquedotto di Montefreddi, sull’Appennino tosco-emiliano, a servizio dei Comuni di Monghidoro, Loiano e Fiorenzuola. La trincea per posare la condotta veniva scavata con martelli pneumatici ad aria compressa ricorrendo a cariche di esplosivo per i tratti di roccia. In 1962, the cooperative constructed the Montefreddi Aqueduct, in the Toscana-Emilia Appenines, in the service of the Districts of Monghidoro, Loiano and Fiorenzuola. The trench for laying the pipe was excavated using compressed air pneumatic drills, with recourse to explosives for the rocky sections.

In 1957, Cpl committed itself for the first time to work in the aqueduct sector. The construction of the Arezzo Aqueduct, including the construction of the disconnection reservoir and the urban distribution network, required the activities of excavation, the laying of pipes and the subsequent filling.

Nel 1971 Cpl iniziò l’attività di trasformazione degli impianti domestici a “gas di città” in impianti a gas metano e sugli impianti di distribuzione: il primo contratto riguardò il comune piemontese di Novi Ligure. Nella foto, la nutrita squadra di lavoratori Cpl (55 persone) impegnata a Livorno nel 1972 nelle attività di trasformazione e di costruzione reti. SARAH ANGEL BEZZECCHI “Non sono stata io a scegliere la fotografia, ma è stata la fotografia a scegliere me”. Così Sarah Angel Bezzecchi, nata a Carpi (Modena) nel 1971, ama definire una vocazione influenzata da una spiccata ricerca al cui centro è l’uomo in relazione al proprio ambiente. Diplomata in architettura contemporanea e scenografia teatrale, si è specializzata in fotografia e grafica presso la Blake College di Londra e la Ryarson Polytecnic di Toronto. Le sue opere sono state esposte in mostre a Londra, Milano e Brescia. Ha realizzato campagne stampa con grandi agenzie quali B.G.S. D’Arcy, UNICEF, J.W. Thompson, Armando Testa, Lindbergh. Ha collaborato a fotoreportage per il Corriere della Sera e La Repubblica, Touring Club Italiano, Faber. Attualmente opera con case editrici, enti pubblici, agenzie di pubblicità, architettura di interni e reportage.
SHIYUN LEE Nasce a Seoul (Corea del Sud) nel 1975. Nel 1999 si laurea in Economia e commercio presso l’Università Duksung Woman. Si trasferisce in Italia nel 2002, motivata dallo studio della fotografia. Si diploma in Lingua Italiana all’Università per Stranieri di Siena, in Fotografia di moda a ADFF a Firenze e successivamente in Fotografia d’Arte presso lo Studio Marangoni di Firenze. Nel settembre 2005 realizza una mostra personale a Scandicci (FI). Dal 2005 al 2007 lavora come fotografa per l’Agenzia Roberto Franciotti presso villaggi turistici. Attualmente vive a Modena, dove si occupa di fotografia, frequentando lo Studio Angelo Rosa e continuando a studiare particolarmente still life e monografie aziendali, oltre alle proprie ricerche personali.
ANGELO ROSA Nato a Chiavari (Genova) nel 1949, vive praticamente da sempre a Modena. Dopo un corso di studi di tipo umanistico, si è occupato per lavoro di fotografia dal 1974. Nelle fasi iniziali dell’attività ha fatto parte di Fotorekord, una società di tre fotografi che, pur sperimentando tutti i generi commerciali tradizionali, aveva come vocazione prevalente quella delle grandi ambientazioni (ceramica) in studio e le monografie aziendali soprattutto nel settore della meccanica. Nel 1976 l’uscita dalla società e l’inizio dell’attività individuale tuttora caratterizzata dalla predilezione per le foto “in esterni” (per vedere e vivere il mondo reale) pur curando le riprese tipiche dello studio (still life, food, abbigliamento) strettamente legate all’industria emiliana.
ROBERTO MORELLINI E’ nato e Civitavecchia (Roma) nel 1976 e cresciuto con i suoi viaggi. Ha studiato al Liceo della sua città natale e si è poi trasferito in Romagna. Ha iniziato gli studi all’università di Bologna ma, non attratto dalla pura teoria, si trasferisce all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma. Durante i suoi studi lavora due anni nella città di New York come assistente alla fotografia. Tornato in Italia si laurea e inizia il suo lavoro di Fotografo. I suoi ambiti di interesse sono still life, pubblicità, moda, reportage, ma la sua passione rimane il ritratto d’artista. Vive e lavora a Ravenna e collabora con riviste e agenzie pubblicitarie.

This is how Sarah Angel Bezzecchi, born in Carpi (Modena) in 1971, likes to define a vocation influenced by a marked search at the center of which there’s man in relation to his environment. After graduating in contemporary architecture and theatrical set design, she specialized in photography and graphics at the Blake College of London and the Ryerson Polytechnic of Toronto. Her works have been shown in London, Milan and Brescia. She has created advertising campaigns with large agencies such as B.GS. D’Arcy, UNICEF, J.W. Thompson, Armando Testa, Lindbergh. She has collaborated in photo reportage for the Corriere della Sera and La Repubblica, Touring Club Italiano, Faber. Currently she is working with publishers, public agencies, advertising agency, interior design and reportage.
Was born in Seoul (South Korea) in 1975. In 1999 she graduated in Economics and Business from the University of Duksung Woman. She moved to Italy in 2002, motivated by her study of photography. She graduated in Italian from the University for Foreigners of Siena, in Fashion Photography at ADFF in Florence and then in Art Photography at the Marangoni Studio in Florence. In September 2005 she put on a personal exhibition in Scandicci (FI). From 2005 to 2007 she worked as photographer for the Roberto Franciotti Agency at holiday villages. Currently she lives in Modena, where she does photography, attending the Angelo Rosa Studio and continuing to study particularly still life and company monographs, in addition to personal research.
Born in Chiavari (Genoa) in 1949, has lived almost forever in Modena. After humanistic studies, he started working in photography in 1974. In the initial phases of the activity he was part of Fotorekord, a company of three photographers which, while experimenting with all traditional commercial genres, had as major vocation that of large studio settings (ceramic) and company monographs especially in the sector of mechanics. In 1976 he left the company and started his own business still characterized by his partiality for photos “on location” (to see and live the real world) while taking care of the typical studio shot (still life, food, clothing) closely tied to the industry of Emilia Romagna.
Was born in Civitavecchi (Rome) in 1976 and grew with his trips. He studied at the High School of his native city and then he transferred to Romagna. He started studying at the University of Bologna but, not attracted by pure theory, he transferred to the Academy of Fine Arts of Rome. During his studies he worked for two year in New York as a photography assistant. Returning to Italy he graduated and started his work as Photographer. His fields of interest are still life, advertising, fashion, reportage, but his passion remains the portrait. He lives and works in Ravenna and collaborates with magazines and advertising agencies.
Excepting as the photos at the pages 48, 49 [Euro Barelli], 113,114,115,117 [Gabriele Greco], 120,121 [Jorge Nazar] 122,123 [Oprea Emil Stelian], 124,125 [Rachid Basta], this book is based upon the works of four photographers [S.H.Bezzecchi, S.Lee, A.Rosa, R.Morellini] of which we presents, in the next page, some biographical details.
