CARATTERISTICHE DELL’IMPIANTO la discarica occupa una superficie di circa 500.000 mq ed è in grado di recepire circa 2,5 milioni di m3 di rifiuti. Il biogas derivante dai processi di fermentazione delle masse di rifiuti abbancati viene usato come combustibile per produrre energia. Il biogas, opportunamente captato dai bacini di accumulo, viene convogliato per lo sfruttamento nella centrale di cogenerazione dove viene usato per la produzione di energia elettrica e calore con questo impianto della potenza di 4 MWe si raggiunge una produzione annuale media di oltre 21 milioni di kWhe, pari al fabbisogno di 13.000 famiglie

il calore è invece destinato al riscaldamento di 3.000 mq di serre per la coltivazione di basilico e per il riscaldamento degli stabili annessi (uffici e capannoni) tramite rete di teleriscaldamento.

VANTAGGI lo sfruttamento energetico del biogas rappresenta un beneficio ambientale irrinunciabile; l’impianto di S.A.BA.R. a regime permette un risparmio annuo di energia elettrica e termica pari a 9 milioni di m3 di gas metano un impianto completo di medie dimensioni ha un tempo di rientro di 3 anni a fronte di una durata di 12 anni del periodo incentivato (gli ultimi sviluppi normativi hanno prolungato a 15 anni il periodo incentivante). In definitiva, permette un guadagno economico per circa 9 anni di vita.

FEATURES OF THE FACILITY the waste disposal site covers a surface area of approximately 500,000 mÂ˛ and is able to receive approximately 2,5 million m3 of waste. The biogas resulting from the fermentation process of the masses of waste placed there is used as a fuel to produce energy. The biogas collected

in the accumulation areas is conveyed to the cogeneration power plant where it is used to produce electricity and heat this plant possessing a capacity of 4 MWe reaches an average annual production of more than 21 million kWhe, which is equivalent to the needs of 13,000 families instead, the heat is used to heat 3,000 mÂ˛ of greenhouses for growing basil and to heat the adjoining buildings (offices and industrial buildings) by means of a district heating network.

ADVANTAGES the use of biogas as an energy source provides an essential environmental benefit; the S.A.BA.R. plant operating at capacity allows an annual electricity and heat energy savings equivalent to 9 million m3 of methane gas a complete mediumsized plant recovers its investment in three years in comparison to the 12year period during which the incentives will be valid (the last regulatory developments lengthened the incentives period to 15 years). Therefore, it allows a financial gain for approximately nine years of life.
