eading kitchen studio, neillerner has just completed a major internal and external transformation of its doublefronted showroom in London’s Finchley Road to welcome an entirely new collection of luxury designer furniture from renowned Italian brand, Poliform. Previously only displaying own-brand neillerner kitchens, the newly refurbished showroom now offers a choice of two alternative European brands. One side boasts totally new ranges from the neillerner own brand of bespoke German kitchens, while the other side is devoted exclusively to new Italian collections by Poliform and sister brand Varenna. Neil Lerner explains, “We find that we are now selling much higher priced kitchens than previously used to be the case. People are becoming much more discerning; they want something different and they are prepared to pay for this.” In a series of new displays, the newly redesigned neillerner showroom now features not only its flagship kitchen ranges but also dining rooms, living rooms and bedrooms by Poliform - together with bespoke Varenna kitchens – to ensure a complete day and night home design portfolio. Use of honest materials that are not coated, painted or veneered, is resonating with consumers seeking sustainable and authentic surroundings.” Whilst the underlying product remains fundamentally unaltered over time, trends are continually evolving. Most recently, sink bowls with tighter corners and thinner edge profiles are in demand. THINGS ARE HEATING UP The latest heating legislation and designs to enter the UK…

W

hat Is Lot 20? Explained By Electric Radiators Direct: The 1st January 2018 heralds the largest upheaval the electric heating industry has experienced in decades, with new energy efficiency regulations coming into play that will likely change the landscape of available products and manufacturers. According to Lot 20 legislation, all local space heaters for sale in the EU will need to adhere to these new rules or face the chop, even if they’ve been manufactured further afield. To comply with the new Lot 20 regulations, all local space heaters will have to meet a minimum efficiency rating expressed as a percentage. Base efficiency ratings differ

between specific heater categories, however, most electric heaters will begin with a base rating of 30% to account for losses in Europe’s power generation infrastructure. The total efficiency rating of a product is determined by how many energy saving features are incorporated into a product; so, simply put, if a product doesn’t have any of these functions, it won’t be compliant with the new regulations. Lot 20’s inception will likely go unnoticed by most consumers. Only existing technologies – such as digital programmers– will be used to achieve these new standards so any price increases will be fairly minor. The new rules explicitly state that, “requirements should not affect the functionality or

affordability of local space heaters from the perspective and should not negatively affect health, safety or the environment.” In short, customers will only see the benefits of these new rules by being able to purchase heaters with improved efficiency and a greater range of controls. Lot 20 will come into force before we leave the EU and trade will be heavily reliant on providing products of a similar standard. The House of Lords ‘Brexit: “Around half of the UK’s overall trade is with the European Union, though this figure is higher in some sectors. For those engaged in trade, therefore, continuing co-operation on environmental standards is likely to be a key priority.”

As the instalment date draws closer, the bathroom fitter becomes highly influential, not only recommending exactly the type and brand of fixtures and fittings to purchase for
