GENERAL I NF ORMAT ION Montessori Summer Program

Montessori Classes are offered to students who attend Alcuin School at Toddler (18 months to 3 years), Primary (ages 3–6), and Lower Elementary (ages 6–8). These classes run from 9–Noon, June 4–29. There is a Primary Full Day (ages 3–6) option, open from 9–4 pm from June 4–July 13.

Registration

Online registration must be completed by Friday, May 25. Many camps fill up fast, so you are encouraged to register before the deadline. Notarized Parent Authorization & Release forms are also due to the Main Office by Friday, May 25 for all registrants. You will be able to download the form from the summer page of the school website. Students that do not have a completed form on file will not be able to attend camp.

Tuition

Tuition is due in full at the time of registration. All payments will be collected through the online registration portal. A $25 late registration fee will be added to all registrations made after May 25. A $25 administration fee will be added to all registration changes made within two weeks of a camp’s start date.

School Closed

Wednesday, July 4, Alcuin Summer will be closed in observance of Independence Day.

Lunches

Students must bring a sack lunch (no heat-ups) Monday–Thursday. On Fridays a pizza lunch will be provided. No sweets or sodas are permitted and those items will be sent home with the camper. Milk and water will be served during lunchtime. Alcuin Summer is a NUT FREE environment.

Transition

Transitions between Half Day Camps will occur between Noon–1 pm. Campers will be escorted by their morning camp instructor to the Pavilion for lunch and outdoor play, then picked up by their afternoon camp instructor. Nap time will be available for children in Full Day Primary Montessori and Primary Full Day Adventure Camp. Before and After Camp Care are available mornings from 8–9 am, and afternoons from 4–5:30 pm for children ages 3 and older. NO DROP IN option is available during summer. You must enroll in a summer program to be eligible for Before & After Camp Care.

Cancellations

Alcuin School reserves the right to cancel a program with insufficient enrollment. A full refund will be given in this instance. A refund will not be given to campers who withdraw one week prior to a camp’s start date or who are dismissed from a session after the program begins. page 2

It is offered for current and new students moving into the Alcuin Primary community in the fall. The emphasis is placed on orienting students into the Primary environment and community. Toddler Montessori is a four-week session offered for currently enrolled Alcuin students returning to the Alcuin Toddler community in the fall. Emphasis in this class is placed on orienting new students into the Toddler environment and community. Montessori lessons and practical life activities will be offered along with additional creative activities like music, water play and cooking. Students must register for all 4 weeks. AGES 3–6

Half Day Primary Montessori Weeks 1-4 9–NOON $850 Primary Montessori is a four-week session offered for current and new students moving into the Alcuin Primary community in the fall. The emphasis is placed on orienting students into the Primary environment and community. Special focus will be placed on community building, with curriculum coming from sensorial materials, practical life activities, nature exploration, and cultural interests. AGES Lower Elementary Montessori 6–8 Weeks 1–4 9–NOON $850 Lower Elementary Montessori is offered for current and new students moving into the Alcuin Lower Elementary community in the fall. In this class, emphasis is placed on orienting students into the Lower Elementary environment and community. Curriculum will include math and language arts support, science, nature and the study of history and culture with a special focus on community building. Students must register for all 4 weeks. AGES Ballet 3–6 WEEKS 1–4 9–Noon

$180 Join Ms. Norcross, an experienced dancer and Alcuin Primary assistant teacher, as we introduce basic ballet concepts using fun, creative elements such as stories, games and imaginative activities that will keep the pace of the camp lively and engaging. By practicing basic shapes, positions, postures and traditions of classical ballet, this camp will enhance both cognitive and physical development, as well as coordination. Led by: April Norcross, Alcuin Primary Assistant

AGES Enchanted Adventures 3–5 WEEK 1 1–4 pm $220

WEEKS 1–6 AGES Primary Adventure Camp 3–5 9–Noon $240 ($190 during week 5) 1– 4 pm $240 ($190 during week 5) 9–4 pm $420 ($335 during week 5) In our most requested Primary camp, campers will experience a new and exciting adventure each week that will follow one of the following themes: Bugs, Farm Animals, Camping, Around the World, Pirates and Mermaids, The 5 Senses. Enrichment activities will include arts and crafts, games, imaginative play, storytelling, exercise, outdoor and water play. Campers will journey around campus participating in age appropriate activities. Nap time is available for all day campers. Led by: Martina Hernandez, Alcuin Primary Staff

AGES Camp Create! 3–6 9–Noon $195 ($155 during week 5) Through engaging and hands-on experiences, campers will learn about the fundamentals of art while exploring art history and different mediums of art. Each week, dive into different themes, artists, techniques and expressions, while creating your own masterpieces to bring home and donate to local hospitals and charities. Led by: Raphael Hernandez

Sprinkle some pixie dust and jump on your unicorn, we are heading into the Enchanted Forest! This camp is filled with imagination building experiences and fun! Campers will spark their creativity as they explore the enchanted realm of fairies, gnomes, elves, unicorns and all things imaginary. Led by: Little Scholars

AGES My First STEM Lab 3–5 Week 1 9–Noon $180 Experience a wide variety of fun, STEM based activities as campers will learn how to protect the planet, create encrypted codes to pass secret messages, understand how different animals eat and survive, and explore our solar system. Led by: Mad Science

AGES Cooking Up a Story 3–5 Week 1 1–4 pm $195 What better way to practice reading, cooking, and baking skills than by incorporating our favorite story books? Campers will enjoy reading books such as “Too Many Tamales,” “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie,” “Dragons Love Tacos,” and “Green Eggs and Ham,” followed by using recipes to create fun food inspired by the stories. AGES Karate with Sensei Chris 4–6 WEEK 1 9–Noon $220 WEEK 3 1–4 pm $220 This camp is a great introduction to newcomers and continued training for existing VMAS karateka (karate students) over the summer. Camp is an opportunity to partake in our leadership and mentoring program focusing on helping and encouraging others in a positive, honorable way by using our 5 Principles of Conduct: Effort, Etiquette, Sincerity, Character, and Self Control. Campers will receive VMAS t-shirts. Existing karateka will receive a Leadership patch for their gi, along with credentials towards their next rank. Led by: Valentine Martial Arts STUDIO

Do you have what it takes to save the world? Do you have the sparkle to rule the world? Train to be the superhero or princess you were meant to be! Save the world from evildoers everywhere in this interactive and high energy camp. The training combines cooperative games, team building activities, literature, educational enrichment activities, and craft projects to ensure your powers will be supreme. Led by: Little Scholars

AGES Camp Rock & Roll 3–5 Week 2 1–4 pm $220 We are looking for the next rock and roll star this summer! We will jam out with handmade instruments, learn hip songs, and dance the camp away. Your rocking scholars will build their social skills, gross motor and fine motor skills. We will show off our moves at a final performance! Led by: Little Scholars

AGES Hands on Spanish 3–5 Week 2 1–4 pm $180 Join Ms. Russo, Alcuin Spanish teacher, as we investigate comical mysteries through art and games while practicing Spanish vocabulary and conversation skills. Students will also take a journey to different Spanish speaking countries to experience their culture, ending with a small conversational performance on the last day of camp. Week 3 9–Noon $200 Parents are invited to join their campers in this unique family experience as Ms. Samore leads junior chefs and their parent through a variety of recipes and cooking techniques each day. Campers will learn about healthy food choices and how they can be incorporated into a nutritious meal. The variety of skills taught in camp will encourage children and parents to have fun working together while cooking meals at home! Led by: Susan Samore, Alcuin Culinary Arts Teacher

Week 3 1–4 pm $220 Join us for a hands-on experience you won’t forget! Dive into the bubbly, squishy, squashy world! Step into a monstrous bubble created just for you, mix squishy slime and make squashy play dough. And to top it off, put on your bubble wrap shoes and paint! This soapy, messy, silly camp is guaranteed to be so much fun! Led by: Studio Bella

Week 4 1–4 pm $195 Combining the best of tumbling and gymnastics basics with a week of fun provides young boys and girls an experience of fitness, exercise and skill building. Our TumbleFun camp includes floor activities which includes flips, somersaults, tucks, handstands and handsprings. The skill building is complemented with fun tumbling games, music, and rhythm streamers to create a positive improvement in flexibility, balance, coordination, power and discipline. Led by: Kidokinetics

Week 4 1–4 pm $200 Campers will have a basic introduction to baking and decorating skills and techniques. They will learn to read recipes and transform raw ingredients into tasty baked goods. Campers will explore their creativity even further by decorating a final product to share with their family! Gluten free options will be available. AGES Super Sport Sampler 3–6 Week 5 1–4 pm $155

We will introduce a new sport each day by leading campers through associated skills and drills. Sports activities may include: golf, tennis, basketball, baseball/T-ball, football, badminton, hockey, obstacle course, hula hoops, Noodlekinetics, yoga, jump rope, kickball, jai lai (scoop ball), Throw & Catch, warm-up/cool-down games, relays and parachute games. There will also be sports related arts and crafts projects, as well as daily story time with sports and nutrition themed children’s books. Led by: Kidokinetics

AGES Kids Parkour Foundations 4–6 week 5 9–Noon $175

Wee ones join in on the fun as we learn to serve and protect the citizens of our community. Campers are sure to have a blast participating in Marshall’s Fireman Challenge, Everest’s Avalanche Escape, Chase’s Police Car Race, Zuma’s Water Crossing, Rocky’s Tool Collection Relay, Skye’s Helicopter Take Off and Rubble’s Skateboard Challenge just to name a few of our activities. Little Medical & Veterinarian School

Week 6 9–Noon $300 Join us for this unique combination of Little Medical School® and Little Veterinarian School®. Campers will role play and explore the exciting world of medicine. Using interactive demonstrations, crafts, and games, campers learn how the body works and use instruments that real doctors use. They’ll also learn how to take care of a pet and use instruments that real veterinarians use. Activities/lessons include: function of heart and lungs, proper first aid care, importance of medicine safety, suture and tie surgical knots, completing an assessment of a dog, proper care and nutrition to keep dogs healthy, safety rules for being around animals, treating animals for pesky parasites, and more! Led by: Little Medical School

week 6 1–4 pm $220 Want to move like your favorite superhero, or do the cool moves you see on video games? This entry-level parkour camp will teach campers how to safely perform all of the basic movement patterns involved in parkour, including running, jumping, rolling, swinging, and vaulting. Campers will also learn our core values (respect, discipline, responsibility, commitment, and leadership) and what they mean in practice. Led by: Fugitive Fitness

During Week 3, campers will go roller skating, make pottery at Color Me Mine, rock climb, and take a train ride to Fort Worth. During Week 4, campers will go ice skating, horse back riding, bowling at Main Event, and visit the Frisco Discovery Center. Additionally, campers will go swimming two afternoons each week, so be sure to bring your swim suit and towel on those designated days. Athletic shoes required daily. Campers will first learn about the basic safety of drone flying and the history behind drone racing as a sport. From there, campers will progress through various skill challenges and learn how to perform various exercises and maneuvers to become familiar with the drone’s speed and agility. Campers will use iPads and remote controls to navigate the drone through short and long obstacle courses. Participants will also create the design and help build the obstacle course in preparation for the last day’s final activity and competition. Week 4 1–4 pm $265 Drone search and rescue is a necessity for first responders around the world, adding a new layer of solutions to save lives across the globe. Now campers can take part in and learn from simulated missions during this action-packed, creative, and educational program. Participants will learn to fly drones and rely on their rescue team to collect vital data in specific “rescue areas” to locate “victims” and safely rescue them. We use age-appropriate and cutting-edge technology methods available for creating plans, missions, and maps. Participants will also learn invaluable lessons on how to simply, quickly, and accurately make informed and targeted suggestions for real-world positive applications. Led by: Drobots

Week 5 9–Noon $145 Campers will join in CSI style forensics in a hands-on look at crime scenes. Identify and collect evidence from fingerprints to trash! Recreate the scene of a crime using clues. Week 6 9–Noon $220 Test your linguistic prowess and get your creative writing juices flowing in Writer’s Mashup. We will entertain each other with comic designs, Magna Comic writing, and skit creations as well as language games to get even weary writers gunning to write more and more. Authors will build a portfolio of work as well as design a book. Led by: Little Scholars

Design Runway

Week 6 1–4 pm $250 Design your very own fashion line with us! Budding designers will create a fashion portfolio, a one of a kind piece with recyclable goods, and end the week with a Runway Show to top Fashion Week! We will participate in several design challenges too. Come design the runway with us! Led by: Little Scholars

Urban Architecture

Week 6 1–4 pm $220 Learn the basics of architecture and help us create a city in a week! We will build from the ground up using wood, cardboard, metal and other materials. As buildings are created, city planning will come into play. You could become the city inspector, be part of TXDot or even become the Mayor! Led by: Studio Bella

Week 6 1–4 pm $300 Calling all outdoor lovers! Join us as we learn about poisonous snakes, the symptoms of and how to treat hypothermia, and how to purify water so that it is safe to drink by making your own water filter. Students will learn 20 ways to use a bandana, how to splint a broken leg, and what steps to take if someone injures themselves in the wilderness. Take home items include a Snake Model, Thermal blanket, Bandana, and much more! Led by: Little Medical School

Week 6 1–4 pm $220 We get it: kids love Minecraft. And great news, Minecraft brings out the best in creative expression! We want to encourage that by giving students a safe place to play and make awesome modifications to Minecraft through simple Java code. Minecraft and coding experience is helpful but not required. Led by: Coder Kids

Week 6 1–4 pm $280 This camp is the next camp after DJ Academy Level 1 is complete. Dive deeper into track analysis and selection, music library management, performance setup and requirements, and advanced techniques used by the pros—cue juggling, slicing, sampling, and sequencing, among others. Led by: Oontz Kids
