A

t Kean University we encourage our students to become active in the community and to learn by doing. Student activities are seen as co-curricular, not extra-curricular, because at their best such activities become vital companions to classroom learning. Most people have regrets. They wish they had done something or tried something that they were too tired or too scared or too embarrassed to do. Upon entering college our parents, teachers and even some friends expect us to know what we want to do for the rest of our lives. They expect us to know where to go, what to study, and what activities to participate in. As a result, we make decisions quickly and with little thought of how those decisions will

influence our friendships, careers, life partners, places of residence and lifelong goals and happiness. At a time when you are making some very important decisions in your life, take time to figure out what you’re interested in, what you care about, and what you might want to do once you’re out in the real world. There’s no better place to try something new, test out your old interests, and find what really matters to you than in

college. The opportunities that present themselves in college are not as easily available upon graduation, so join one or more of Kean’s 125 recognized clubs and organizations, run for office or serve as a class representative, attend Cougar athletic events, get a job, internship or co-op, on or off campus, go to performances at Wilkins Theatre, involve yourself in numerous programs and events, use campus facilities, take part in community service programs and activities, participate in Travelearn

Four years ago, I was in your shoes, and all of these questions loomed in my mind as my parents moved me into the dorms. Today however, I can say I had a great college experience. There were of course bumps in the road, and setbacks along the way, but overall, I would not trade my time at Kean for anything else.

Throughout my college career, I was President of my sorority, VicePresident of Greek Senate, and completed countless hours of community service. Also, as a junior I began working for the Office of Student Life and Leadership Development which gave me the opportunity to be the student coordinator for the Established Leaders Program.

As the days of my first semester passed, I knew I wanted to experience Although joining a more from Kean than sorority was the right just classes.
