Head Coach

Kevin Mahoney enters his ninth season as the head men’s lacrosse coach at the University of Massachussets Dartmouth in 2013. In his first season as head coach, 2004, Mahoney led the Corsairs to a 7-7 overall record and a 5-1 mark in the LEC. The Corsairs placed second in the LEC before losing in the tournament semi-finals. UMass Dartmouth also earned an invitation to the 2004 ECAC New England Division III Tournament. The 2012 season marked the third time Mahoney had guided his team to double digit wins as it went 10-6. His 2011 squad went a school-record 13-4 and was 5-2 in Little East Conference play, tying for second place overall and earning the second seed in the LEC Tournament after defeating conference power Eastern Connecticut State for the first time ever. In his first eight seasons as head coach, Mahoney’s teams have compiled a record of 67-73. He has twice been named the LEC Coach of the Year, following both the 2004 and 2011 seasons. In addition to his work as an assistant at UMass Dartmouth, Mahoney had served as head men’s lacrosse coach at Bishop Connolly High School in Fall River in 2001 after a season as a volunteer men’s and women’s assistant lacrosse coach at Dartmouth High School. Mahoney was an assistant football coach for UMass Dartmouth during the 2002 season before taking a similar position at Seekonk High School. As a student-athlete at UMass Dartmouth, Mahoney played football for the Corsairs from 1996 through 1999 and was selected as a team captain during his final season. He was a New England Football Conference First-Team offensive lineman in 1998 and a Second Team selection in 1999. He also played two years with the Corsairs’ men’s lacrosse team.
Assistant Coaches
Len Desautels is the voice of experience. When he speaks, everybody listens. The veteran of the men’s basketball coaching staff, Desautels returns for his 20th season as Brian Baptiste’s top assistant coach. Desautels has an extensive coaching background. He coached high school basketball in Bloomfield, Connecticut before moving to Cape Cod, where he was the head boys’ basketball coach at Bourne High School for nine seasons before joining the Corsairs.Several years ago, he served as an assistant coach for the Boston Frenzy of the American Basketball Association while they were based at UMass Dartmouth.

A 1967 graduate of Central Connecticut State University, Desautels earned his bachelor’s degree in social studies and a master’s degree from CCSU in 1971.
